Free Music Review: 10,000 Reasons to Fall in Love with LOVE AMONG THE RUINS

I was quite skeptical at first of buying this album. I had been a huge 10KM fan from the very beginning. I had fallen in love with the sound and of the voice of Natalie Merchant. Each time a new album came out, I rushed to my record store and very soon the CD was soon an overplayed staple in the disk changer. After Natalie went solo, I was excited about her albums, but I soon found them dark and depressing. I missed the upbeat melodies of 10KM and didn't find any songs that I wanted to really belt out in the car or while washing dishes. Love Among The Ruins changed all that. After listening to this album for the first time, I realized that it was the sound of the music that I missed, the catchy guitar riffs, strong drums and melodic violas and other miscellaneous instrumentations. Love Among The Ruins is like being home again for a true 10KM fan. Although I admit that Mary Ramsay's voice is not quite near Natalie Merchant's, and she can sound at first a bit nasal and whiny, once this album grows on you, you'll soon forgive and forget. Thank you, 10,000 Maniacs, for making me realize just why I loved you in the first place. Thank you also to Jules Shear whose fingerprint on 3 songs adds to their catchiness. This CD will not be leaving my disk player for a very long time!!
