Free Music Review: "1776" is DA-BOMB!!! A must have!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Wuz Up America? There is no better soundtrack on planet Earth then "1776". But then, there is no better musical on planet Earth. I first saw "1776" in movie form with my bestfriend Africa and we loved it!!! We both own the CD and the movie and have seen the play at the Aronoff in downtown Cincy, and we both agree that every American has to hear this music once in their life. William Daniels, Ken Howard, Virginia Vestoff, and Ron Holgate are the BEST!! Nobody else can do this musical quite like them. Paul Hecht is the perfect John Dickinson. The only flaw in this soundtrack is that fact that it lacks Howard DA Silva as Ben Franklin. Rex just can't quite make it sound right. Also, after seeing and hearing the AMAZING Donald Madden as Edward "the Creep" Rutledge, Clifford David doesn't seem to have the right stuff. But great songs and a wonderful story make up for the lack. Take it from Africa and me, the U.S. of A.'s biggest American Revelolution bluffs: YOU MUST HAVE THIS CD!!!! And if you like it, which you will (trust us), then check out the new cast recording. It isn't as good (Lauren Ward can't sing worth a dime) but it has more songs and Paul Micheal Valley is DA-BOMB!!!

Free Music Review: Very good!
Hit: 4 Stars

I wouldn't say that this is the best CD in the world, for it's not; yet, it is a VERY good CD! My 14-year-old daughter saw the movie in American history class this year, and loved it then. So, I told her to get the CD. As soon as she got it, she listend through it about 5 times, causing her 10-year-old sister to fall in love with it, too! Right now, the ten-year-old's favorite songs are "The Lees of Virginia," which is by far the most catchy song on the CD, as well as "He plays the Violin," which is a very charming love ballad. The eldest's favorites would have to be "Molasis, and Rum and Slaves," which is very much like a nightmare-ish song. With the added bonus of "Cool Considerate Men," which isn't in the movie, the CD is very good. One does miss Howard DeSilva as Franklin, but his understudy isn't bad at all. I'd buy it again, for it is rather historically accurate, save the part about Franklin sending for Jefferson's wife, which was added so that there would be enough female parts in the play. All in all, it's VERY good!

Free Music Review: A magnificent show magnificently sung
Hit: 4 Stars

I've seen the movie, I've seen the play, I've heard the CD---and I still can't get enough of it. Wether your a history buff or a theater buff, you must buy this album. You'll be humming it for days. The one and only draw-back is the absence of the wonderful Howard DeSilva as Ben Franklin. Someday the movie soundtrack might be released, but until than, if than---enjoy this album. You will not be disappointed.

Free Music Review: Absolutely the BEST there is!
Hit: 5 Stars

There is NO better soundtrack in the universe! I've worn out the LP and have just ordered the CD. I can hardly wait to hear it.

Whenever I really need a lift....or when I need to do some heavy-duty housecleaning, I put this on and go to town!

Ancestors on both sides of my family signed the Declaration, so the story has a lot of sentimental appeal to me, too.

If you want to hear Broadway at its absolute best, BUY THIS CD!

Free Music Review: One of the best soundtrack CD's available - a must have.
Hit: 5 Stars

1776 takes what many might consider a dull topic - the events leading to the drafting and signing of the Declaration of Independence - and makes it riveting by exploring the interactions of the men behind it. Each one trying to do his best, and each with his own agenda, often at conflict with everyone else. The music represents a fine mixture of comedy (Lee's of Old Virginia), pathos (Mama Look Sharp) and bone stirring patriotism (Is Anybody There?). William Daniels leads a superb cast with his portrayal of the stubborn and frustrated John Adams. There is one minor detraction, and that is the absence of Howard Da Silva's wonderful interpretation of Ben Franklin. On the CD the part is played by understudy Rex Everhart. Everhart's Franklin is believable and well played, to be sure, but he lacks the sparkle that Da Silva gives Franklin - that twinkle in the eye of a man dealing with serious issues while trying not to succumb to self-importance. If you saw the movie with Da Silva, you will recognize the difference, but still enjoy Everhart's performance. Buy this CD - you will enjoy it thoroughly.
