Free Music Notes for 1776 (1969 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Rex Everhart is no Howard Da Silva Hit: 5 StarsThe music is great! William Daniels, Ron Holgate, and Ken Howard are the same between both this soundtrack and the film. However, after listening to the first three tracks, and half of the Lees of Old Virginia, something hit me, hit me hard. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a voice so erroneous and rich in cacaphony, so unnerving, so painful that even to think of it causes my hair to stand on end, came out and "sang" the word "social-." It was Rex Everhart pretending to be Howard Da Silva. Actually, it was not all that bad, but it was different. His performance lowers the otherwise 5-star recording to a 4-star rating. There are two pluses, however: "Cool, Cool, Considerate Men", a song left out of the film is a stunning song, and an added treat; Clifford David is a far superior Rutledge, and his "Molases to Rum" is excelent. Their presence raises the overall quality of the recording back to 5-stars. For maximum enjoyment, purchace the film version along with the soundtrack!
Free Music Review: This is one of the greatest musicals of all time! Hit: 5 StarsWilliam Daniels put the passion of John Adams into the show the way that Brent Spiner never could have done. This ranks up there with Ragtime and My Fair Lady! If you love american history ( as this show made me) you should enjoy this.
Free Music Review: The most underrated musical in the history of Broadway. Hit: 5 Stars1776 has been my favorite musical for quite some time. I own this recording and recommend it without hesitation to almost anyone. Most of my favorite songs are the more humorous tunes, but there are also very good serious and dark songs throughout. It will have you humming it's tunes all through the day. Trust me, as this is very phenomenon is happening to me as I write. Buy it and you will not be disappointed. It towers far and above anything those bastards at Disney could put out.
Free Music Review: Great CD Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is GREAT! If you like this try the newer recording it's even better!
Free Music Review: Excellent soundtrack, particularly if you like the movie Hit: 4 StarsThis is the Broadway cast recording from the original production. If you like the music from the movie version, you'll like this, as most of the cast is the same. The only significant loss is that Howard Da Silva, Ben Franklin in the Movie and in the orginal cast, was ill when when this recording was made, so Franklin's part is sung by his understudy.
