Free Music Notes for 1776: The New Broadway Cast Recording (1997)

Free Music Review: Wow, what a show!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been listening to musicals for years and I must say that 1776 is one of the best. It is certainly not Stephen Sondheim or Andrew Lloyd Webber but it has charm.

The script is incredible and some argue that the music isn't even needed but there is a great emotional journey that one can take if they allow themselves to really be there with the show. It is worth the money, if for no other reason than to explore this magnificent musical that not only reminds us of, but creates American history.

The performances by Brent Spiner, Linda Emond, Gregg Edelman, and Michael Cumptsy are superb. Though Spiner as Adams doesn't have the same vocal quality as the original Adams (William Daniels) he shines a new light on Adams and really brings the character to life.

Free Music Review: INCREDIBLE
Hit: 5 Stars

This music will inspire you to love American history. It will take you on a journey so that you feel as though you are in Phillie. I guarantee that if you enjoy soundtracks and more conventional musicals you will fall head over heels in love with this music. I am sure you will find that the talent Brent Spiner displays in this musical can not even be described with words. I saw this show on Broadway. And I must tell you that listening to this soundtrack puts me back in the Gershwin every time. Every member of the cast shows tremendous talent and there is no weak link. You shouldn't even have to think twice about purchasing this amazing, and awe inspiring soundtrack. If this review can't convince you that it is worth the money, nothing will.

Free Music Review: This is one great 5 Stars

I absolutely love this!!!! There is such a variety of songs and it makes you see the signing of the declaration in a totally different way. Brent Spiner is amazing as John Adams, and his songs with Linda Emond (Abigail Adams) like "Yours, yours, yours" and his finale "Is anybody there?" are both quite heart-wrenching, you can feel his energy even if you can't see him!! Merwin Foard as Richard Henry Lee gives an energetic performance of "The Lees of Old Virginia" which makes for a nice light-hearted number, contrasting greatly witht the more solemn "Molasses to Rum" sung by Greg Edelman, addressing the heated issue of slavery. This is one of my all time favs and I really recommend you buy it!!

Free Music Review: 1776 an Incredible must have!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have come to the conclusion...that this show is astounding and awe inspiring for those who take the time to enjoy it. Sure, you may think the signing of the Declaration of Indepence may not seem like toe-tapping material (that's what I first thought) but think again. There is no show created quite like this one and you will be captivated from the opening lines to the final bell toll. This cd is a must have for anyone interested in shows or history. It can change your life in ways you never thought possible. History comes alive and brings with it a whole new outlook for the future.

The cast is fantastic. Spiner (Adams), Edelman (Rutledge), and Cumptsy (Dickenson) shine with amazing voices and tremendous talents.

Free Music Review: From someone who despises American musical theater
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay... wow.

In the Brent Spiner Fangirl Legal Contract, it specifies that said fangirl must purchase any and all vocal recordings containing said Brent Spiner (and that she will not, in any way or at any time, mention how much he sounds like Judy Garland on steroids). Which is why I purchased this CD.

He... ripped... into... this... part. That's the only way I can put it. I was floored from start to finish.

The work, as a whole, is something of a consuming thing. Be prepared to sit in silence for a few minutes after you're done with this one, because after hearing the whole thing, silence will be the only followup that does it justice.
