Free Music Notes for 1776: The New Broadway Cast Recording (1997)Free Music Review: amazing performance all-around! Hit: 5 Stars
Listening to this CD makes me wish so much that I had the chance to see it in actual person, but even if you haven't seen the musical, you pretty much could understand the story. Brent Spiner was superb beyond words! Though I knew he could act, he also has a great voice as well. I especially liked his "duets" with Linda Emond, Abgail. They bring reality to a truly wonderful relationship between a husband and a wife. All around, great acting and singing, but my greatest approval goes for Brent Spiner and his wonderful ability to capture the whole play. =sigh= when and where will we see Brent Spiner next?
Free Music Review: Excellent!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is my absolute favorite musical, ever! The characters are wonderful interpretations of the members of the 2nd Continental Congress, and the history in the show is surprisingly accurate. I have both this version and the original, and it's hard to decide which one is better. I must admitt, John Cullum is the best Edward Rutledge, even though Gregg Edleman does a wonderful job, and Ronald Holgate will always be Richard Henry Lee to me. William Daniels and Brent Spiner are almost equal. All in all, this is a wonderful CD, for anyone interested in the history of our nation, or just in a funny and thought-provoking musical.
Free Music Review: Excellent Broadway show for all ages and likes Hit: 5 Stars
I can highly recommend this CD if you like 1776, or Star Trek The Next Generation. It is very faithful to the orginal 1969 cast play but has it's own interpretations of the music to make it it's own. Brent Spiner (Lt. Cmdr. Data from Star Trek- The Next Generation) is superb as John Adams. His powerful stage and singing voice rings clear in this CD. The other performances are not to ignored either. Pat Hingle (Commisioner James Gordon from the Batman films) is Benjamin Franklin. While not the powerful as a singer as Spiner but he puts his all into charactor and voice. If you can get this CD you will not be dissapointed.
Free Music Review: We play it so much that we are wearing it out! Hit: 5 Stars
My two daughters (3 and 5) and I just love the quality of the music and the power of the voices. We sing the songs together trading off who is singing what parts. My wife did not like the original cast but when she heard this CD she finally appreciated the cleverness of the lyrics and the creativity put into the orchestration. My impression is that this cast is vastly superior to the original. I greatly appreciate that they included the dialog leading up to the songs rather than just jumping into them. Also, after hearing this CD, I deeply wish I had the opportunity of seeing the play when it was being done.
Free Music Review: This is one of the best musicals ever!!! Hit: 5 Stars
When i first heard the song "Lees of old Virginia" I went out and bought this CD immediately!!! All the main character's voices are superb. Although he does not really have a large part, i beleive that the best singer in this great CD is Mr. Rotlidge, who sings the solo "Molasses to Rum" which is a great song, even though it is about slavery. And Benjamin Fraklin is hilarious. Adams is also funny. This musical is awesome! it is the best of the best of the best! I would say other than Les Miserables and Miss Saigon, this is one of the best broadway shows ever written! if your a fan of musicals, you NEED to get this CD.
