Free Music Notes for 1776: The New Broadway Cast Recording (1997)

Free Music Review: Good God, this is INCREDIBLE!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a musical that should not be missing from anyone's cd collection. It is without a doubt one of the greatest Broadway shows created. While it sways from what most people think of when they think of "The Great White Way" (Cats, Phantom, Les Mis, Rent...) this soundtrack works its own little miracles. I get chills everytime I listen to it. There isn't a week link in the bunch.

This is a show that is highly unappreciated and doesn't get anywhere near the praise it deserves. Most think it is just a history lesson but it is much much more.

Get the cd, it is completely worth it.

Free Music Review: Awesome!
Hit: 5 Stars

I never got the opportunity to see the play live on Broadway, but listening to the CD almost makes me feel I'm right in the theater. The entire cast is superb, especially Brent Spiner, one of the finest actors *and* singers ever! He is equally believable on the deck of the Enterprise and in the halls of the Continental Congress! The emotional range he dispays in this performance is incredible! And Merwin Foard's rendition of 'The Lees of Old Virginia' is magnificent. The duets between John and Abigail are tender and beautiful almost beyond words. A top-notch listening experience all around!

Free Music Review: Who knew Mr. Data had it in him?
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw this musical in NYC and have never been so moved by a Broadway show before. Brent Spiner has a lovely yet commanding voice that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck in parts - you so believe in the rightness of his convictions as Adams. All the performances are first rate, but Spiner really shines.

The argument can be made that this musical was "of its time" meaning the 1960's, but I think the songs still hold up as they entertain as well as educate us. Much of the lyrics and dialogue are authentic.

Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: INCREDIBLE
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the most incredible musical I have ever seen. It was not as flashy as many shows on broadway and so it had to keep audiences with talent and amazement. I can safely say that it does that very easily. I get chills when I listen to this soundtrack. Brent Spiner is wonderful. He is the best John Adams I have ever heard. While the entire cast is fantastic. Brent and one other stand out in my mind. Gregg Edelman delivers a spell-binding performance of Molasses to Rum. Get this cd. It is one of the greatest broadway soundtracks ever!

Free Music Review: One of the greatest musicals ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

This musical is incredible. I would have to agree with that other person from Indiana and say that Brent Spiner makes an awe inspiring John Adams. He makes me wish I could be in that room with him, deciding on American Independence. This cd is for anyone, from the "strictly showtunes" to the "anything's for me" attitude. Anyone who appreciates muisic, hasn't heard creative musical minds write and perform music until they have heard this. BUY THIS CD! YOU WILL LOVE IT!
