Free Music Notes for Away From The SunFree Music Review: Solid album but not their best work Hit: 3 StarsThe Better Life remains in my top 5 list for favorite albums. Naturally, that's not something easy to top. When I got this back when it was released I was a bit disappointed. It's not a bad CD by any means, but it seems like an encore to The Better Life. There's some songs that really show another direction of their music but most of it feels the same. By that, I mean, the material of the lyrics feels a tad bit repetitive and there seems to be a formula to some of the songs. This album is also softer than The Better Life which was the real turn off. As the years have gone on I've grown more and more in love with heavier music and when I see a band go soft for radio friendly stuff I don't hold the same interest. I guess I was just expecting a rocking continuation of their debut.
Enough with the negative though. There is some real quality songs that have a unique sound to them as I mentioned earlier. Those are: Ticket To Heaven, Changes, Going Down In Flames, and Sarah Yellin'. Those are also the best songs off the album. I'm not a fan of ballads so Here Without You really isn't for me but I know a lot of people out there like it. It is the best ballad they've done so I can say that much. Away From The Sun is the best single they released. Unforutnately it was the last single and didn't get heard much.
When I rate this album I don't take into account how overplayed some songs may be. IMO, that has nothing to do with the band but rather those horrid radio stations out there and a small bit of fans requesting their music repeatedly to get their name out. This gets 3.5 stars specifically because it's a pretty good album for 3DD fans but I like the other two albums more. New 3DD fans should check out The Better Life before venturing Away From The Sun.
Free Music Review: Shadow's Word - 3 Doors Down - Away From the Sun Hit: 4 Stars3 Doors Down's Away From the Sun is quite a moving album. Every track of this CD seems to fill the need of the listener. It rocks and it moves. When you listen to it you feel as if you are truly part of the music.
This album is a piece of art. True, it could have been made a little better. Just a touch. But nonetheless, it proves to be quite amazing. I would recommend this CD to music lovers without hesitation.
Free Music Review: pretty darn good cd Hit: 3 StarsI got this cd when it came out and thought that if i liked it as much as "The better life" then i would love it. but, for me, i thought that it was a little bit of a let down. This is their worst cd(and even then its still not that bad). With the exception of a couple of some songs(ticket to heaven, changes, the last song, and going down in flames is the best song on the album)their a little boring. I would still recommend this cd for any 3dd fans. Overall, its a pretty darn good cd.
Free Music Review: No filler here Hit: 4 StarsI have liked every 3 Doors Down single I have heard on the radio, so I thought I just might like the rest of their stuff. Well, I was right there. This is a good, solid, southern rock album with sold, relatable lyrics.
Here Without You, When I'm Gone, and Away From The Sun are the three excellent singles that most of us are very familiar with. None of the rest of the songs disappoint in the least. This holds together as being an all around good effort. There are certainly no filler songs, which in itself is a strong testament to the quality of this band and their work.
3 Doors Down have their own recognizable style, but at the same time, they are not afraid of experimenting a bit. If you like their singles, I would recommend giving this a listen. There are no disappointing surprises here, but there isn't any boring monotony either. They have struck the perfect balance if you ask me.
Free Music Review: Great modern rock album Hit: 5 StarsI will go through all the songs and give my personal opinion about each:
1. When I'm Gone (10/10) Really catchy song, got a lot of play time on the radio, and good lyrics. Kinda like "Kryptonite" from "The Better Life"
2. Away From The Sun (9.5/10) Another great song, but not the best on the album
3. The Road I'm On (7/10) Pretty average song. I don't listen to this song much, but it is alright, and it doesnt stand out to me as a great track
4. Ticket To Heaven (10/10) BEST SONG. I can listen to this song 5000 times and not get sick of it. Great lyrics, catchy, excellent track
5. Running Out Of Days (8/10) Above average song, but not a standout by any measure
6. Here Without You (9.5/10) Really good song, not one of their fast paced songs, but good lyrics, and good slow paced song
7. I Feel You (6/10) Below Average, I'm not feeling this, maybe listen once, and then see if you like it, cuz i dont
8. Dangerous Game (8.5/10) Good song, worth a few listens, but not one of the top few
9. Changes (10/10) I love this song, second best on the album, another classic, great chorus and lyrics
10. Going Down In Flames (10/10) Yet another great song, anyone can like this song about failing, but not quite as good as "Loser" from "The Better Life"
11. Sarah Yellin (7.5/10) It's above average, nothing special
12. Hidden Track (This Time) (7/10) Interesting, listen to it a few times, but not a standout
