Free Music Notes for Other Ways of SpeakingFree Music Review: If you can't see them live, hear this Hit: 5 Stars
Having listened to all the works of this group, it is wonderful to hear continued growth in freshness and originality. The previously released songs/"concert staples" have been reworked: new harmonies, new instruments, new life. The brand new tracks are exploration into rock 'n' roll and heart 'n' soul. This self professed "pub band" with it's "whiskey and cigarettes" voiced frontman (what's his name?) have never sounded better. Also recommended: Bastard Life Or Clarity (cd) Gaslight (cd) What's Her Name? (cd) The Photograph Kills (cd) Texas (dvd/vhs) Nothing In Moderation (cd) Sampler One (cd) Ether & Great Ocean Road (cd) White Monkey (cd)
Free Music Review: Other Ways of Hearing Hit: 5 Stars
"Other Ways of Speaking," the latest effort from Tofog, is an album (disc) that gets better with each hearing. It is solid, as was "Bastard Life or Clarity," and is filled with story songs that open the song writers, Crowe and Cochran, up for us to understand and witness the vulnerability of these men. Crowe is bold, a daring writer who is not afraid to show his vulnerability. This is what makes the songs so powerful, and so touching. They are real. I love this disc. I loved "Bastard Life." The songs continue to be interesting and strong lyrically and musically, and the band -- well, the band is explosively gorgeous and solid.
Free Music Review: Russell Crowe and TOFOG rock Hit: 5 Stars
I'm The Same Person is my favorite on Other Ways Of Speaking with Painted Veil next. The band has two previous albums (Gaslight and BLOC) that I bought multiple copies of and play everyday. Russell Crowe has a smokey, sexy voice that adds the right touch to his song writing talents. The band is first rate - Dean Cochran on the guitar is awesome as always. They are even better live when Garth Adam, Dave Wilkins, Stewie Kirwin and Dave Kelly add to the fun and excitement. Their TEXAS DVD documenting the 2001 Tour should also be seen by every rock fan! Buy this album - it is a winner.
Free Music Review: original--the more u listen, the more u love it! Hit: 5 Stars
OWOS was a total surprise to me! I received it with the BLOC cd. It was enjoyable from beginning to end! My favorite songs are the cool MISSION BEAT,I could listen to it all day, INSIDE HER EYES and Folsom Prison Blues! Heck-they are all great! I recommend it highly to rock-folk-country lovers!I love the fact the words are inside and that Russell wrote all the songs, except for the Johnny Cash classic!Crowe is one talented entertainer--WOW!ACT<SING>WRITE>plays the guitar and( violin in his upcoming movie Master & commander)---need I say more---order it now!
Free Music Review: Better Singer than Actor Hit: 5 Stars
I don't know why people keep saying that Russell Crowe's singing falls far short of his acting ability. 30 Odd Foot of Grunts is one of the best good old rock and roll bands around and this album is the best yet. Great music, great lyrics, and Russell's voice is amazing. I find it soothing and mesmerizing. I will admit it is different than most pop and rock singers - but it is the difference that makes him so good. I would rather hear him speak and sing, than watch him act - and I don't think he is that bad an actor either.
