Free Music Notes for Bastard Life Or ClarityFree Music Review: More Than Just A Pleasant Surprise Hit: 5 Stars
Like many other people, I'm sure, I ordered this cd for one reason only: Russell Crowe. I had no idea what to expect from this, but could not resist the curiosity to hear it. As I'm writing this, I've had the cd only a day, but I've listened to it at least a dozen times already. Each time I hit the play button my mind drifts away. I forget that I'm listening to an Oscar winning celeb who is on the minds of many women, and on the covers of tabloid papers. I am simply listening to a really good band. Their sound is simple: no frills, no effects. Russell describes it as "Australian Folk" and that's a pretty good description... although there are some rockers. "Somebody Else's Princess" is a fine example of one, and also is one of my favorite tracks. Other favorites are "Memorial Day," "Hold You," and the more subdued but very sweet "Sail Those Same Oceans." Although I enjoy the above four songs the most, there really isn't any filler to be found here.

Discovered the 'Grunts' by accident, long before they became so popular and I am glad I did. It is hard to describe the music because it is such a great combination of so many things, blues, folk, rock. The songs tell a story, many are personal to Crowe or other band members. The acoustic version of 'Legend of Barry Kable' is a true story and it is not to be missed. Band member Dean Cocrahan had the experince of knowing the man the song is about. The harder rock version can be found on their first album 'Gaslight'. Other songs on BLOC including the touching tribute to Crowe's grandfather "Memorial Day" and a very personal song "The Judas Cart" about Crowe's own neice. It is hard to find a song not to like on this album. Many will buy it because it is Russell Crowe but put that aside as you listen and let the music speak for itself.
Free Music Review: music lets me escape Hit: 5 Stars
I do feel that the two TOFOG CD's I purchased are well worth the time and money. I plan on buying more. I enjoy rock and mostly bands that appear to have their own story to tell. This band has that. I appreciate the musicians used, the trumpet is moving and of course Crowe/Cochran do a great job with the vocals. Crowe has a very sexy voice, sensuous and moving. I enjoy each song for it's uniqueness. Don't forget to listen to the bonus tracks on Gaslight, it seems to end but Crowe has a touching love song to Danielle. I do hope they have a concert in my city, I think I would follow TOFOG's career much longer than I would Russell's (of course he would have to be the lead singer since his voice is lucious).
Free Music Review: New fan for life Hit: 5 Stars
I have just recently become a fan of TOFOG. I visit their website often always looking for new material and tour dates. I recently purchased Bastard Life or Clarity and loved all of the songs. I especially loved Things Have Got To Change and Sail Those Same Oceans. Both songs have a wonderful beat and the lyrics are terrific. I was so impressed with the CD I bought Gaslight a couple of days ago. I am looking to obtain all of TOFOG's CD's now that I'm hooked. Russell's voice is so sexy and at least when he sings you can understand the words. Makes me think that I know exactly where he's coming from. Keep it going guys and keep it real.

I confess I really ordered this out of curiosity. And I can't believe it--I really like the CD!I swear it's not just because of the actor, but the voice and the songs. Most are stories from the heart and a nice new genre of folk/R&R with a range of tempos. Okay...I admit it, I figured I'd be sending the CD back--AND I'M NOT! This opinion comes from a Jazz, New Age, Sting and Madonna fan. Go figure? The only complaint I have is that they need more songs on their CD's. Buy it--it'll add a nice variety to your collection of music for those days when you need some perspective.
