Free Music Review: A Fun And Light Hearted Romp Hit: 5 Stars311 never really gets too serious, they keep it light, which can be perfect for some moods. Some of their lyrics are even playful. If you are into this style of music, maybe 311 is for you.
Free Music Review: doesnt do it for me Hit: 2 Stars311. I have never been partial to them. I don't really like how they mix up the reggae stuff with their instruments; it just doesn't work for me. That's the root of my beef with 311. If you've heard any of their stuff, and you didn't like it, you probably shouldn't get this CD. If you did like it, go ahead and buy it much of their music is in the same style.
Free Music Review: Know that they have always been "down down". Hit: 3 StarsThere's no doubt that this is a good album, and their big break-through to the masses, but front to back I like others of theirs more. This does however include numerous good songs, and the hits "Down", "All Mixed Up", and "Don't Stay Home". Besides directing a newcomer to the "Greatest Hits", I'd also suggest "Soundsystem", "Transistor", and the excellent debut "Music". This album is still pretty "Sweet" though, and I like the alien related packaging.
Free Music Review: 311's worst effort Hit: 3 StarsI love 311, they are my favorite band, but if you want to get into them, buy Music, Grassroots, or Transistor.
This is has way too much rap, and it kind of gets away from the sound that they established with their first couple cds. It's a good cd, but they need to concentrate more on using their musical talents.
1. Down: 8/10: Good song here, it's their hit. Nothing special about it.
2. Random: 8/10: Got a good vibe to it, but there is nothing special about it. Stupid lyrics.
3. Jackolanterns Weather: 7/10: More rap again.
3. All Mixed Up: 9/10: I usually don't like to say it about hit songs, but this is one of their better songs on the CD.
4. Hive: 9/10: Mostly rap, but for some reason I like this song more than others.
5. Guns (are for pussies): 5/10: Guns are for pussies, but it's not a very good song.
6. Misdirected Hostility: 10/10: The guitar intro in this song is great, and this is definitely my favorite song on the CD.
7. Purpose: 9/10: Lighter song, and a good change of pace on this cd.
8. Loco: 6/10: Short song, thankfully. Not very good at all. All about "trippin the shrooms fantastic."
9. Brodels: 5/10: Another bad song
10. Don't Stay Home: 9/10: Very good song.
11. DLMD: 7/10: An OK song, nothing special about it.
12. Sweet: 9/10: Finally, another reggae song.
13. T&P Combo: 8/10: Another rap song, mostly SA.
It's an OK cd, but there's no reason for me to keep listening to it. It's just not that special.
