Free Music Review: From Chaos Comes Clarity
Hit: 5 Stars

311's been my favorite band since '95. Their music's been the soundtrack to my growing up, and I owe a lot to them and their music. The first time I heard DTOM, I was literally frightened. It sounded like such a slap in the face, something not 311, something unnatural, something unexpected, something that had betrayed the sound i knew and loved. But give this one a good few runs through before you pass any judgement (which I have a feeling many of the negative reviewers didn't have the patience to do). After a few more listens, this disc has begun to grow on me like only 311 can - it's amazing, like nearly everything 311 churns out. Are some of the lyrics a little forced? Perhaps, but even some of the band's best albums have their moments of "haha uh, what, did Nick just rhyme that there?" Is the sound different than "old school" 311? Certainly. This is not the hardest of 311 albums, that there's no denying, but it still has that driving 311 funk. Some of the B-sides for this album (tracks like Take My Money, Stealing my Girl, and Little Brother) actually have a lot more of the old school harder rap-rock in them, so I was disappointed to see that they all didn't make the cut for the album. But, in the end, the reason those harder tunes didn't make it on is because the guys crafted the album to have a certain feel - every song has a purpose and a place. With a feeling consistenly reminiscent of the more mellow, melodic, feel-good type of 311 music, the album has a flow and cohesiveness absent from Evolver, 311's last effort.

IMO, Don't Tread On Me is not 311's best album, but it is nothing short of exceptional. Do yourself a favor, and give the disc the extra few spins necessary to start appreciating it, because if you don't you're denying yourself another great 311 album.

**standout tracks: 3.Frolic Room 4.Speak Easy 10. It's Getting OK Now

Free Music Review: Ok, another album...now hit the road.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of 311 since the "blue album", and to this very day I have not been able to stop listening to them. The reason is not because of their longevity or the deep meaning of their music, is just because there is no band like 311. The truth is that no matter how experimental the Mars Volta is, or how artsy and meaningful Radiohead's Kid A was, you need a band like 311 to balance things out; a band that makes music to entertain and have fun, and in this world of pretentious rock bands, 311 is the new "alternative". That said Don't Tread On Me could might as well be 311's return to form disc. After a couple of disjointed efforts, DTOM comes as a coherent, short set of songs, with a few hit and misses, and some great gems to add on their set list. The song "Long for the flowers" is the best song 311 have released since "Beautiful Disaster". "Frolic Room" still keeps the band's sound but with a chorus that can please the most avid Good Charlotte fan, proves that any band that has added rap to their bubble gum pop rock owns debts to 311. On the mellow songs, "Speak Easy", "Waiting" and "Getting through to her", is where 311 shines, basically because this songs are simple melodic numbers to make you chill, and that's what they do best.
In 311 early years, they put out four strong and consistent albums that raised the bar pretty high on what they could do. After that, they decided to tour endlessly and put out albums not to prove anything, but just as an excuse to hit the road again (best live show on earth) and make it interesting. Like I said before, 311 is the kind of band you listen to when you are hanging out with friends, or you just want to feel good. Good thing is they know that and their fans do too, so enjoy the show.

Free Music Review: This is sweet
Hit: 5 Stars

Unlike other people, I love this album! Plus, this has more reggae, so that's cool! My only complaint is 11 SONGS!?!? WHAT? Oh well. I can survive with THESE 11 songs.

1. Don't Tread On Me 8.5/10 Good, just kinda repetitive.

2. Thank Your Lucky Stars 9/10 Pretty good.

3. Frolic Room 9.5/10 Wow. This is GOOD! Addictive chorus.

4. Speak Easy 9/10 Good, a good chilling-out song.

5. Solar Flare 3.5/10 WHAT!?!? Why can't SA rap anymore!?!? If SA sounded better, I would get into this more. Plus, I was curious to see what this sounded like, because Nick and SA said this was the ONLY rap song. I'm really disappointed.

6. Waiting 9.5/10 WHOA, this is SO funky, thanx to P-Nut. I also love how SA says "Watch out!"and "oOW!"

7. Long For The Flowers 8/10 I like this song, just not as much as the other ones.

8. Getting Through To Her 8/10 I gotta give this one props because it ends really well. The 1st half I don't care about.

9. Whiskey + Wine 10/10 WOW!! This is SO GOOD! It has a resemblance to Champagne from From Chaos( A strange coincidence, I know) . It's very relaxing with a sweet guitar.

10. It's Getting OK Now 8.5/10 This song is OK until you hear the chorus. That's when you think, "It's Getting OK Now!" Good chorus.

11. There's Always An Excuse 10/10 311 saved the best for last. It's worth paying for the whole album just for this one song. This is a lot like "Stealing Happy Hours" from Transistor. Except it's better. This song is even better than "Sometimes Jacks Rule The Realm" from Evolver.

Hope my review helped!

Free Music Review: Arguably...Their weakest effort?!!! BUT...
Hit: 5 Stars

You may not agree with me,but still I gave it 5 stars. Not only because they are 311, but because they are not afraid to explore diff. textures, yet they always find a fresh feel as far as their music is concerned. The only reason why I said that probably it's their weakest effort is, 'Don't Tread On Me' is their shortest clocking album yet. It is the only 311 album that clocks below 40 minutes, 37'27" to be exact. BUT... As the saying goes "Big things come in small packages".
The first track 'Don't Tread On Me', also their first single, is an incredible way to start to feel the sound of the album as you go along listening. 'Speak Easy' reminds me of Perry Farrell (jane's addiction) as S.A. sings this one. 'Waiting', the song that I almost cried when I heard it for the first time, seriously! (...no just kidding!), by the way, very good duet by S.A and Nick. 'Thank Your Lucky Stars', another creative guitar work from Tim Mahoney. All of the songs in the album, sounded really great, nice job by Saint, the album's producer. The songs that I just mentioned above stands out for me when I was listening to the entire album for the first time.
Arguably, their weakest effort?!!! I guess... NAH! disregarding the time duration of the album. I think, the album really sounds very fresh and an album that you can shake your head while smiling!!! 311 is always and undeniably, a band that has a reputation of satisfying or even over-achieving their fan's expectations through their music, whenever the band releases a new record. A band that truly love their fans to show the band's appreciation for being loved.

Free Music Review: Nice album!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Don't tread on me" covers a lot of ground track by track, yet the length seems just a tad short by the end. 311 picked their favorite songs from a batch of around 17, so they could've added more content if they wanted to, but I think it worked better by only including the best.

The songs that stuck out to me were "Getting through to her", "It's Getting ok now", "Speak easy", and "Whiskey & Wine". I really like all the tracks they put on the album, so it's hard for me to try and rank them in any way. I'm sure my favorites will change all the time depending upon the mood I'm in.

SA really shines on this album. His singing has become something I've wanted to hear more of when I received little doses of it in the past. On this one, they really let him take center stage vocally and I must admit it left me smiling. Tim sounds great too... I really enjoyed hearing all of his solos and guitar work come out in full glory. Chad and P-nut did great with their playing on the drums and bass as well (production wise it might be the best yet for the bass sound). I like seeing them take it up a notch from their last effort "Evolver", which was a good album in its own right, but is thoroughly supplanted by this beauty.

I wish others could get this album and understand where I'm coming from, but I know not everyone can feel it the way I do. 311 is a unique flavor that not everyone can swallow and take in the first time. You have to let the music work its magic and really listen to it. No matter about those disconnected from the meanings, I hope the journey continues!
