Free Music Notes for Don't Tread on MeFree Music Review: 311 Cured me of childhood music trama Hit: 5 Stars
I'm glad you've found your way onto my review
I remember it like it was yesterday. But it really was 14 years ago, or smth like that, when i awoke one morning really young. Anyhoo... Proceeded to grab my plastic drum sticks from the tressure trunk (with the spin doctors "little miss" Loud!) Later, that night i couldn't get the words out of my head...
frustrated that i couldn't fall asleep i decided to not listen to music like the new kid on the block i was. Truley.
Then a few years later...i was introduced to "down"...
I saw them on tour with Incubus...(5/10/01?) (Decade stuff, Pavillion Stylee) a little fungus rubbed onto me...Meaning i'm a huge fan after that show.
I have purchased 311 Music 3 times...grassroots at least 2 if not 4... Albumly speaking
But thats whats even cooler about 311...
Because days before their album was for sale....the whole world was listening to it for free on the web.

Free Music Review: What 311 is. Hit: 5 Stars
For those of you just getting in to 311, or if you have been a dedicated fan, you have to realize one thing. No matter what critique or what you have to say about them and their music... 311 is original, and they always have been.
Not just original because of their sound, but because of their ability to make music in to a unique and intricate experience.
One thing about them, is if you are a mainstream music listener, there is no way you can fully appreciate the 311 experience. They may have songs played on the radio, and videos on MTV, but they will never stray from what they are best known for: Their TRUE fans.
And their TRUE fans, are those who appreciate not just the brilliant sophisiticated drumming of Chad Sexton, or the amazing Lead Guitar of Tim Mahony, but the elements of what the whole band believes in. And if you listen real closely to their lyrics, and how well they mesh with the music, you will know. It cannot be explained in text or word.
As a musician myself, I cannot stress enough, how every single album they have put out, and every live show they have performed, that they are one of the most powerful and influencial bands in the last decade. And a band that has stuck together with themselves and their fans like glue. That in itself, is something to appreciate, ten-fold.
Free Music Review: Stop dissing the best band in the world! Hit: 5 Stars
Let's face it, next to the Beatles, 311 is the best band of all time! I have been listening to them from the start and I am easily offended by any negative remarks towards the band or the new work. Any review you have read previous to this forget it, the albums only get better as time goes on. I mean how many bands came claim the history of this one. After all these years the band has continued to keep us fans happy by staying faithfull to us. Never have they split up, cancelled tours, or not released material. I understand that some may feel like this album is very different from previous ones, but the fact is you can't make the same album twice. Think about it if they made Music, or any other album from the early years again what would be the point. Anyone who thinks 311 has fallen off is crazy, oh and I read one review that said this album sounds like grassroots. That had to be one of the funniest comments I have heard about the album yet, what a newbie to the band huh! The bottom line is this album is great and some people are never happy, if you are debating to buy it don't, get it, listen to it, and love it. 311 never intended to blow the charts or be on top of the world, their main objective was just to make free spirited, fun loving music for all of us to enjoy, so enjoy!
Free Music Review: Nothing Left To Prove Hit: 5 Stars
"Don't Tread On Me" is easily 311's best since Soundsystem, which was 6 years ago. Instead of sounding forced, and too toned down by Producer Ron Saint Germain, 311 makes an astounding turn for the better. Save for "Waiting" which sounds like a song more suited for elementary schoolers, the rest of the album is 311 exploring new things (in a good way). They revert to some old tricks (check out "Solar Flare", "Don't Tread On Me", and "Thank Your Lucky Stars"), while pushing their sound in a different direction on tracks like "Speak Easy", where we hear S.A. Martinez streching his vocal chords to an extent unheard on previous albums. "Long For The Flowers" is a classic blend of S.A.'s rapping/singing vocals and a great hook with both him and Nick Hexum that you can't help but replay. The album could have ended slightly better though. "There's Always An Excuse" tries to sound too much like "Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm" off of Evolver, which was nice. But "Excuse" fails to deliver the same way "Realm" did. Overall, 311 blows away their past two efforts which for the most part seemed forced. "DTOM" proves that ironically, 311 has nothing left to prove. Their musicianship and creativity can't even be questioned at this point. Fans of old and new will not be disappointed. Vive la 311.
Free Music Review: 311 - DTOM Hit: 5 Stars
311's newest album, Don't Tread On Me is definitely what I would call their most musically mature album to-date. As a die hard long time 311 fan, I can easily tell you that I love all of their albums. Some are better than others, yes, but they are all musical genius.
That said, something seemed missing from their previous album Evolver. It was a great album and very musically mature but something just wasn't there. On DTOM however, that "something" is no longer M.I.A., for from start to finish the album is very strong.
All the tracks are good but in my opinion, the best ones are "Speak Easy", "It's Getting OK Now", "Thank Your Lucky Stars", Solar Flare", and the instant 311 classic "Frolic Room".
What most music (and therefore 311) fans don't understand is that 311 is probably the only band to have every album they put out be different than the last. Of course it still has the definable "311 Style" but they are always changing it up. Unlike msot bands where every album they put out sounds exactly like the last. Music is supposed to be a progressive art. As time goes on, you need to evolve (not sell out, there's a difference). And 311 has and seems like they always will be one of the very few that understand that notion.
