Free Music Notes for Don't Tread on MeFree Music Review: Naysayers Don't Mean a Thing Hit: 5 Stars
It's unbelievable to me how some of you reviewers are actually claiming to be hardcore or old-school 311 fans. If you truly were a real fan you would approach this CD with the knowledge that 311 albums ALWAYS take a few spins to grow on you. They always take a few spins to get used to and fully realize. It's been what, FOUR DAYS since the album came out? If you gave this album a chance you would discover that "Long For the Flowers" could be 311's best song since "Beautiful Disaster" or maybe their best song to date. You would also discover that "It's Getting OK Now," "Always an Excuse," and especially "Whiskey and Wine" could all arguably be amongst 311's BEST work. I'm aware that I am also reviewing this album early but these are just some early realizations I have come to. It took me a full year at least to fully and truly appreciate 311's masterpiece Transistor. If I were to have spewn nonsense, like some of you, the first few days of checking out Transistor, I would have told you it was a joke. Grow up and let DTOM grow on you. If you really were true fans you would actually show respect for the boys.
"F--- the naysayers cuz they don't mean a thing. Cuz this is what style we bring"
Check this one out.
Free Music Review: DTOM Hit: 5 Stars
I have to say the first time I heard this CD I was a bit surprised, I didn't really like it, but since then I've listened to it probably about 30 times, and each time I love it more.
It's just fascinating to sit down and listen to the old stuff, and then get to this, and wow, the evolution, it's amazing.
Evolver was really good, and Don't Tread On Me followed nicely.
Personal favorites are Long For The Flowers and Speak Easy.
Long For The Flowers might be one of their best songs ever, and I really like what it represents, cos this song is actually from the Transistor days, and this is just the finished product so many years later.
I feel that's what has happened to 311, they took something old, evolved it, and in the end made it better.
I think this album really showed us all what a good singer SA is, Nick is kind of in the background for the most part, which is a first.
I know a lot of people didn't like it, so called hardcore fans, but in my eyes, if you can't keep up with the evolution, then stay behind and listen to the Blue Album, while all those of us who accept the maturing process of music, will continue to enjoy the music of 311 till the end.
Free Music Review: Another Amazing Album From 311 Hit: 5 Stars
311 have been together as a band for 15+ years and over the years have continued to pump out one 5 star album after another. Don't Tread On Me, while not my favorite 311 album, still dominates over the competition. While many artists are screaming in anger, whining in an emo voice or rapping about how cool it is to commit acts of violence, 311 and Don't Tread On Me are a comforting break from all of that sadness and negativity. Past 311 albums have been mostly dominated by both vocalists Nick Hexum and SA Martinez singing and rapping together. Don't Tread On Me has one rap/rock song called Solar Flare, which is a colorful commentary on the ills of modern day politics. The other songs have Nick and SA singing interchangably and some parts in wonderful harmony. One pleasant surprise is that SA Martinez gets to show off his always evolving vocals in the songs Getting Through To Her and It's Getting OK Now. The only weak part of the album is that it only has 11 songs and is under 40 minutes in length. But taking the band's main message of positivity into play here, I can all say that I am very thankful for another amazing 311 album and hope that there are many more to come in the future.
Free Music Review: The title and the cover art says it all Hit: 5 Stars
Just wanted to make a note that this is the only 311 album with a multi-word title, therefore making it the BEST! Ok not really. But man, this cd practically got me through my junior year in college--a year I made several breakthroughs in self-development.
Although it's hard not to compare this album to some of the band's monumental albums of the past, that's exactly I tried to do--listen with an open mind AND an open heart. That being said, this album brings the goods. Songs like Speak Easy and Whiskey and Wine really speak to the heart. Of all the 311 albums (and yes, I have all of them babies), this one is where I felt the guys are most comfortable with themselves bringing with them a strong sense of inner peace.
Who cares if it's sounds "pop"? That's not even to say that pop music is crap per se, it's just that a lot of it is commercialized and practically devoid of real feeling. Not with 311, though.
Sure it has some less than stellar efforts, but taken as a whole, this album shows that the band stays true to themselves even if that means confusing/frustrating some of their fan base. Oh well. Can't please everybody.
Free Music Review: hey, its 311 and to the kid who likes the blue album the best..... Hit: 5 Stars
311 has been my favorite band for six years and I have to say they keep making me happy. If you love 311 you should get this album. Its another classic. Although p-nut doesn't have as much hot bass action as he did on there other albums. Plus he uses a pick on frolic room and that is very dissapointing to me. I never use a pick on a bass because of les claypool and p-nut.Also if you look in the credits for 311 MUSIC p-nut said thanks to his step brother for convincing him never to use a pick. So it saddens me to here he used one. No wounder you can't here the bass on that song. Plus the album is only 37 minutes. Next one needs to be longer. And by the way to that kid on the front screen that said the blue album is there best, you are so full of it, its actually their worst ( BUT ITS STILL GOOD ). you are not a true fan if thats you attitude. Amd also I recomend TRANSISTOR. iT IS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC. Also to blue album BOY AGAIN, TRANSISTOR BLOWS THE BLUE ALBUM OUT OF THE WATER i DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR SMOKIN BUT ITS SOPERIOR IN ALL THE WAYS TO THE BLUE ALBUM i CAN THINK OF. dON'T LISTEN TO THAT KID GET don't tread on me and transistor.
