Free Music Review: 311-Another Great Album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been following 311 for about 10 years. The great thing about this band is how unique each album is. When I first saw this band live, I was overwhelmed by the energy that radiates from the stage. I think "Don't Tread On Me" is a good example of that. The music is quite mellow at points, but overall is just rockin! If your looking for the rap-rock 311, you might be disappointed. There's only one track that contains any rapping. "Solar Flare", which is a slow-rockin' political song. This album is very toned down from some of the bands earlier music. Singer SA Martinez shows alot more of his singing on this one. He provides the only vocals on "Getting Through To Her" and "It's Getting OK Now". Overall its a great album. Great melodies, great riffs, great solos. My favorite track is "Long for the Flowers." It was an outtake, called "Grifters", from the album Transistor. They just changed the vocals. Awesome song. I think any true 311 fan can appreciate what they did with this album. Alot of fans only want to hear the same 311 from the early 90's. But lets face it, 15 years of making music. Somethings got to change, or it just gets boring.

Free Music Review: 311!!Omaha Styleeee
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all don't listen to anybody putting this album down. Some people might now like their new style on the album, but, time brings change and in my opinion, I think that the band sounds better than they did on their last 2 efforts.
Don't Tread On Me has an incredible sound to every song. The words to every song are so true and relatable, not to mention beautifully written. The production on this cd is far superior than any album they've recorded. Them and Saint did an excellent job with production. Sa Martinez actually has a couple of solo songs, and he shines on them. Him and Nick Hexum still have a beautiful harmony when they sing together. 311 have had a couple great albums, and others that have good songs that outweigh decents songs, but seriously, I can listen to Don't Tread On Me the whole way through without skipping any. 311 still have the same sound, but changed up their style a little to a more soft and mellow on this cd. 311, please don't stop releasing albums, I'm going to look forward to the next one!

Free Music Review: Eclectic Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

15 years as a band 311 still continues to evolve. DTOM picks up where Evolver left off, and channels the music into a new direction. The first track Don't Tread On Me, sets the tone for the album. With its eerie dance able reggae, to the dub breakdown, and the crushing rock riffs, the songs travels on a journey that is just around 3 minutes long. Thank Your Lucky Stars and Frolic Room are your standard 311 rockers that help move things along. Solar Flare the heated up rap rocker that is sandwiched in between two reggae numbers, Waiting and Speak Easy. Then comes Long For The Flowers an akward rocker, with soaring solos. Then towards the end Getting Through to Her leaves an adult alternative feel, as Whiskey & Wine has a distinct Steely Dan influence. Its Getting OK Now rocks out, and right into There's Always An Excuse, which is a fine ambient closer.

All in all the album is 311's shortest, but at the same time their most strongest, and most diverse effort to date...

Free Music Review: another grand album
Hit: 5 Stars

I've seen 311's evolution from their "music" days till now. i've always stayed a loyal fan, and this album shows another great evolution in their sound. their progression from hardcore rap/rock to this, a more easy listening kind of "chill" music is a breath of fresh air. almost everything they've done in the past has been heavy, muddy and thick (i mostly speak of transistor as it is my fav. pre-DTOM album). Bus songs like "Speak easy" and "whisky and wine" are perfect songs to sit back and relax to. If the occasion calls for somthing harder rockin, DTOM answers with "thank your lucky stars" or "solar flare". wahtever your taste, 311 has a song for you on DTOM. The musicianship is still amazing as usual, although my only dissapointment is the lack of solos. i've waited and waited for a solo like that of tim's guitar solo on "use of time" on the album "transistor". But that being the only down on the album, its definetly worth your time, wether you are just gettin into 311 or a seasoned veteran.

Free Music Review: 311 Fan?
Hit: 5 Stars

I know many of the folks that have written a review for DTOM are not really 311 fans. Sure, they say they are, but David Koresh said he was Jesus (And it turned out that he wasn't).
All I'm saying is that a true 311 fan would recognize that their musical talent, lyric composition, and personalities have all matured as the years have progressed. I have watched them grow as I have grown, and I love them for letting me share their sadness, joy, depression, and smoked-out serenades. :)
Would I recommend this album?
Damn straight. I would tell you to buy them all, then listen to them chronologically. Only then will you understand what the hell I am talking about. But you WILL see the growth.
I love 311 as they are now...Roots, Reggae, Rock, Rebels...in that order.
So screw the idiots who posted negativity about my boys from Omaha (and Madison). Buy this stuff, and tune into yourself. It's way more than music! It's a lifestyle.
