Free Music Notes for Don't Tread on MeFree Music Review: A "TRUE GEM" Hit: 5 Stars
I have to start by saying I was a little worried about hearing this album because of all the bad reviews I've read on Amazon. My location prevented me from getting this album until today. This album is a "TRUE GEM" and the album I have been waiting for. The ones that gave this album 1 or 3 stars must not be true 311 fans like they mention. This album displays componets of all their albums especially MUSIC! What are people expecting from 311? If you want to hear Music or Grassroots, you need to listen to those albums. I admit they are classics and hard to touch but DTOM holds water to those albums. There are a few things I don't like about this album. One would have to be SA's blink 182 "nuts caught in a vice" sound in a few of the songs and the length of the album. I don't think that is enough to knock off a star from this one. I have been listening to 311 since '94 and my advice to any "TRUE" 311 fan is buy this one! You will not be dissappointed.

I have been listening to 311 for a long time. I have seen them live twice. They really are amazing. But I found evolver and from chaos to be lacking. And bought this record with low expectations. 311 has said they presonally are not that happy with this record because it was rushed. At first I was thinking if this record was going to be a dud but after listening to it I loved it. The track frolic room is amazing it has a great beat an Nick sounds great. SA also has a little more time singing on a few tracks. SA gained my respect when I saw him live so give the tracks Whisky & wine and getting through to her a listen to. Soalr flare is a good track about politics and one of the best song's on the record it does not sound much like electricty but reminds me of that song for some reason. Thank your lucky stars is a track that shows 311 is still about positivity. This album is the best one they have put out since Sondsystem.

I was once a huge fan of 311, but after transistor came off I forgot about them completely. Then amber was a huge radio success single, which was a pleasing song, but I still didn't think twice about buying the cd. A year or so later I happened to be in the store about the time they released evolver, I was in a good mood, I decided to buy it. Wow. Some people say they lost their pinache, but i say just the opposite. If your a fan of rhcp, you will appreciate 311's trend of changing up their style. I enjoy their harmonic sense that they now use. Back in the day it was too punkish with an edge of teenage angst. Now it's simple lyrics on top of fun feel good music. It feels good to listen to this cd. I give it five because i can listen to it all the way through, the music is great, and the lyrics are easy put. no bs or distractoins on this cd. no time killers, just 11 good songs in 36 minutes.
Free Music Review: 311's best CD Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not going to go with some of the others who have wrote reviews here and say a true fan would or wouldn't like this CD because of course it's really just a personal opinion. And in my personal opinion this CD is great, by far their best. Unlike their previous CD's there is only one song on this one that has any rap. Besides that the rest of the CD is more mellow than usual, not real slow but no rap. I love almost every song (I don't like Solar Flare, the rap song) and have listened to it quite often since getting the day it came out. I hope they put out many more CD's like this for years to come. If you are a 311 fan and like songs such as Amber, Love song, First Straw, and like their single from this CD (Don't Tread on Me) then I think you'll like this CD. If you only liked the rap stuff you may not like it. I like both, but I think this sounds much better than most of their older stuff.

311 has consistently blended several genres of music (many times when people ask me what kind of music they play, I cannot even describe it), five amazing personalities and excellent lyrics. I have seen 311 live at least 16 times (maybe 18) and was in Memphis this year; every, single show saturates my entire being: body, mind and spirit. To me, they're music is powerful art. I make my own 311 compilations, emulating what THEY do- and the average number off every album is two or three songs, (including off DTOM). The deeply unique element of 311 *is* the wide range of musical and song style- DTOM is just one more example of this. Frankly, some of the lyrics read like poems (which is valuable in and of itself). I love 311 and am grateful for the energy they bring to the planet. I plan to support every album they work hard to produce to keep them going strong! Amy Ginko
