Free Music Notes for Don't Tread on MeFree Music Review: Exceeding the expectations... Hit: 5 Stars
I would like to add that this album is fantastic and I am glad that it does NOT sound like the other albums. To you Nick, I love your new stuff... This band has survived making so many great songs over the years by slightly changing the mold and now they are breaking the mold. Their music is beginning to come full circle. I am so tired of hearing other artist's new albums and their songs repeat the same subtitle beat over and over. Blah, I want to stick a fork in my ear when I hear Green Day and Audio Slave, highly overrated. Long live the phunk that this band has created, this is your new genre "Phunk - harmonious, bass slapping, happy music created by musical mix of 311". Also if you ever get a chance to see them live, your appreciation for their music, especially from this album, will never die. Love your live because it gets better on the other side.
Free Music Review: New direction, same 311. Hit: 5 Stars
True fans of 311 realize that with every new album they produce, there's going to be nuances. This album has charisma; it ties together most elements from the previous albums and hits you with new sounds. There's a theme in DTOM, a calypso inspired melodic groove that's not yet been touched as it has in this album. Also, there's a song or two which is reminiscent of 80's metal, classic 311. The album ties together the sounds of grassroots, omaha sessions, transistor and evolver, with a hint of blue. I strongly recommend this album, especially if you fancy grassroots. Although eleven tracks is somewhat skimpy, i'm sure there will be 3 or 4 for the next b-sides disc. Three eleven has never failed to impress. This album, like all albums that really stick, takes a few listens to sink in; but when it does, you'll be glad you heard it out.
Free Music Review: gettin back in the groove.... Hit: 5 Stars
311 is one of those bands that don't really make "bad" music, I can honestly say none of their CD's were bad or not worth checkin out. When evolver came out I was really dissapointed, it wasn't really a bad album but it wasn't what I heard on soundsystem or music. I understand bands evolve but evolver used a lot of synthesiers and the lyrics really weren't all that impressive. Unlike evolver don't tread on me is a lot of just raw 311 music, all the guitars, drums, and straight up 311 is there, they go in the opposite direction they went in evolver. I feel like 311 found their signature, yet evolved sound they were looking for. Probably one of their shortest CD's but by far better than evolver and from chaos. From their reggae vibe to their hard rockin out live vibe to their slow chill vibe it's all there.
Free Music Review: 311 BEST ALBUM TO DATE!! Hit: 5 Stars
dear the outside world,
This album celebrates all that is 311, and the reason they are more than just a band. 311 is a lifestyle, it is a conscious
way of thinking and just plain old loving life. REAL fans (not whatever DIE HARD fans these other kids are talking about), will absolutely love this album. it continues to document 311's growth as a band, and as individuals as well. SA no longer just raps, he SINGS AMAZINGLY (#8 trying to get through to her), his voice is truly a gift. If this is your first time hearing 311 the congrats! you will really enjoy this album (look into early 90's), and this band. For all the roots out there this is just another step forward for a talented band, and to all the naysayers, find something else to complain about. see you on 311 day!!!

Free Music Review: "Girly" album. I think not Hit: 5 Stars
To those who accuse this album of being girly. Shame on you. You may be 311 fans, but you clearly do not understand music, and you clearly are not musicians. I can understand loving the raw energy of Music and Grassroots, however, just because a song does't say bull#% ten times, doesn't make it girly, and let's face it, 311 were never a bunch of tough guys. They are a couple of white, weed loving dudes from nebraska. The new album, and Evolver before it, is fabulous. 311 has started harmonizing like they never did before, and the subtle harmonies and guitar fills are refreshing after the years of endless rapping (which i did enjoy). This is a good album. If you are looking for a band that likes to shout, curse, and lacks musical talent....i dunno, listen to Linkin Park or something.
