Free Music Notes for From ChaosFree Music Review: "From Chaos" Brings Clarity Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I listened to this album, I thought the boys of 311 may have started slipping. While a few tracks stood out as great right away, some of the others left me wondering. But as I listened to it again, I found myself unable to remove it from my CD player. After the third listen, I realized 311 had released what could be their best album thus far. Who could resist bobbing their head to "You Get Worked", the opening track? The second song, "Sick Tight", not only rocks, but conveys a level of confidence and awareness that many bands could learn from. Having seen these guys play live, I was especially touched by the lyrics, "We keep an eye for each other, then again, our known associates endure. We keep a sick tight connection when we see our true people on tour." The body rocking continues from there in a non-stop assault on the listener's funky-bone. My favorites include "From Chaos", "Full Ride", "I Told Myself", and "Amber". These guys know how to be heavy, as well has how to be sweet. "Uncalm" proves that a love song doesn't have to be cheesy to be romantic, while "Hostile Apostle" addresses the increasing trend of hard-core bands that equate pessimism with hard rock. All in all, I think this is an outstanding album. Once you buy it, you won't be able to stop listening.
Free Music Review: Possibly their best yet Hit: 5 Stars
I can't say I've ever anticipated a cd as much as this one (well, maybe 5 years between tool discs), so of course my expectations were high. when transistor came out, i was thoroughly disappointed. even after four years, only maybe ten of the songs (out of 22) have grown on me. the big problems that made me dislike it were (1) that it sounded computer generated, and (2) that it lacked the live sound of their older releases (music especially). with soundsystem (a 4.5 star in my book), the music sounded more real (real instruments, not transistor's alien noise), but lacked the live feel. after listening to from chaos for the last 5 days, i think that they've addressed the only problems i've really had with their work.as for the cd itself, i can't put it down. they've assembled a disc of twelve songs ranging from above-average to outstanding. my favorite tracks are "i told myself," "hostile apostle," and "from chaos." their sound has matured a lot in the past years, and they just keep getting better. now i guess i'll just have to wait another two years to see how they could possibly better themselves. p.s. my only gripe is that there isn't more in the way of chad sexton. modern rock's best drummer is more solid than ever, but i wish there was more on the disc to satisfy fans of his explosive energy and talent.
Free Music Review: 311 brings it hard and heavy w/ From Chaos Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a longtime fan of 311 and would have to rate From Chaos as the best album since the Blue Album. We all know that nothing can touch *Music* or *Grassroots*. These masterpieces will never be duplicated, nor should they be. 311 have matured in many ways and are addressing many different things in their lyrics nowadays....it's no longer all about the herb. Which I applaud...there is much more to life than that. That being said, From Chaos is equally as good as the Blue Album...working with Ron St. Germain seems to be a winning combination for 311....b/c he has produced another winner. I have found each song to be different and equally as rocking, although my faves are #2Sick Tight, #4Full Ride, #5From Chaos, and #11Uncalm. Even though I enjoyed both Transistor and Soundsystem, they were lacking something. I think this is most evidenced by 311's tour setlists(they realized it too). Most setlists only contain two maybe three songs from these two albums. Usually "Beautiful Disaster" and "What was I thinking" from Transistor and "Flowing" and "Come Original" from Soundsystem. The other 24 songs are from the other four albums. From Chaos is needed in any 311 fan's collection. 311 are back and better than ever!
Free Music Review: THE Alternative Band does it again Hit: 5 Stars
...In From Chaos, 311 has succeeded in making their most diverse and addictive album since Music--and that means something. There are hard-rocking songs, smooth melodies, and awesome jamming tunes for your pleasure. I don't know of another band who can mix styles so effortlessly. DON'T say the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This statement comes from someone who tries to be alternative, but is truly pop culture inside. The RHCP haven't done anything original (besides their music videos) in 10 years. Some of their biggest hits sound like the big hits they had 2 albums ago. As for No Doubt, if you think Gwen guesting with Moby constitutes experimentation and originality, you've got another thing coming. Bands who are only good after being mixed 1000 times over are not really good, and eventually, the truth comes out. (Why do you think Don't Speak was their only good song?) 311 continues to prove that there is no substitute for originality and musicality. From Chaos is probably one of the better albums they have released, and is DEFINATELY one of the most original, exciting albums of the year. If you like real music, and want something different from the rest of your collection, get From Chaos. (and yes, it's different even if you have all the other 311 albums)
Free Music Review: I must state something to all the downer's of this album... Hit: 5 Stars
As a fellow 311 fan and lover of their music for an extremely long time now, its hard for me to hear all these so-called "die-hard" fans dis the boys and their music making abilities. I've been reading a lot of 'this isnt as good as the other albums' and a especially lot about 'the blue album is the best'. I would just like to say that people have to understand that group is growing and making music that they like, not what they need to create hits. I give props to them for creating groove-oriented, peace-inflicting music that can get anyone moving and enjoying it. As for the blue album, that is actually the first 311 album i picked back when it first came out but i have to say it is actually my least favorite of all their albums. While Music is my most definite favorite i also enjoyed Transistor, their experimental one, which most people seem to disagree with. In my opinion 311's music is constantly evolving and growing and providing positive vibes for people everywhere. This album is a genuine 311 album through and through and deserves credit where credit is due. Enjoy the vibe and take things with strides. Love the music. Love the feeling, thanks to 311.
