Free Music Notes for From ChaosFree Music Review: From Chaos comes tight cd Hit: 5 Stars
In the '90s 311 became an underground success story with the releases of 'Music' and 'Grassroots', and later a commercial breakthrough with 'Blue' and 'Transistor' due to the popular chart-topping 'Down' and 'All mixed up' and the beloved 'Beautiful disaster'. Then in 2000, after complications arose with their Capricorn label, they switched over to Volcano.
'From Chaos' (their first Volcano release) was an awesome way to kick off a new decade and new millenia, armed with a new label and new recording studio, known as 'The hive'. 'From Chaos' showcased a much more focused and semi-creative side of 311 that stylistically is on-par with 'Grassroots' but with a perfect and solid recording and production. It doesn't hurt that the album contains the hits 'You wouldn't believe', 'I'll be here awhile' and the highly popular 'Amber' (arguably their most popular song). Just steer clear of 'You get worked' and 'Full ride' and you'll hear some of 311's finest lyrics. Listen to 'Amber' and 'Uncalm' and tell me that 311 aren't at the top of their game lyrically.
If you're a fan of 'Music', 'Grassroots' or 'Blue', then 'From Chaos' is a must listen.
Free Music Review: 311's Official Sequel to the Blue Album Hit: 5 Stars
311 goes right back to their old formula with From Chaos, their sixth studio record. More than anything, the songs on this cd are reminiscent of the 1995 Blue Album, which included the hits "Down", "Don't Stay Home", and "All Mixed Up". Just like the last album, Soundsystem, this new one begins with a loud, fast song - called "You Get Worked." At first listen, the best songs are probably the title track, "From Chaos", "Wake Your Mind Up", "Uncalm", and "I'll Be Here Awhile". There's little or no experimentation on this album, but it sounds good to get back to the stuff you'll really hear at a 311 show. The word is that all songs on the cd will be played extensively on tour, and that the band will follow up the first single "You Wouldn't Believe" with a heavy, fast song and then go for a slow number as the third single. There are only really two calm songs on the album, one of which is actually ska (and it sounds great). If you ever wondered when you were going to get another Blue Album, this is the cd to go buy. "Stay Positive and Love Your Life" (Hexum).
Free Music Review: Amazing!!- The best 311 album ever, the BEST this year Hit: 5 Stars
This is an incrediable album, by an Incrediable group. This is simply the hardest, fastest 311 record in awhile. Soundsystem was great, transistor, for the most part was great, 311, 311 was good, but not as good and the rest. I havent had music or grassroots in years so I cant say anything about them. This album at times makes you wanna jump and go nuts. "Wake your mind up" contains a great T and P and C combo. P-nut has a great solo, then great drums come, into a crazy gutiar part. "I told myself" is a high energy with slower vocals song, which is the signature Nick Hexum chourus. There is alot of rap, over "Sick tight" which transforms into a great most pit song. The songs on this album are filled with energy like "Uncalm" and "From choas". The ehanhanced cd, is packed with great interviews. Out of 12 songs, 3 are great soft songs, 311 fans love. "Amber" and "Champange" are great spaced out songs. "I'll be here awhile" is a mellow tune, but with more upbeat acoustic gutairs. This is 311's best performed album, by far and Ron Saint definitly made is so perfect. A MUST BUY!
Free Music Review: From Chaos Comes Clarity Hit: 5 Stars
I can describe this CD in one word....Clean. Admittedly, Grassroots and Music are two of the best CD's this band has produced. But when listening to From Chaos, the main thing that jumps out at you is the clarity of their music. Other 311 albums are heavy in effects, musically touched up before being released. The effects are to a minimum in From Chaos. Instead we are filled with the melodic harmonies of Nick Hexum and Essay Martinez. In songs like Champagne and Uncalm the voice of Mr. Martinez hits notes that are on another level from any I have ever heard. With lyrics that bring messages of positivity, love and strenght that differ from the main stream. We are not bombarded with lyrics of violence and anger like the mainstream music of bands such as Limp Bizkit. Striving to differ from main stream music, makes 311 a band unlike any other. They stay true to their music, even when it causes them to be a little less noticed. How many bands today can we say that about? The main meaning of music is your true rythem. Not selling out to sell more records. Here's to 311 who helps us to see with this album that "From Chaos Comes Clarity."
Free Music Review: back to the same good groove Hit: 5 Stars
After purchasing the last 311 offering, "Soundsystem", I was skeptical of ever purchasing another new 311 disc. Soundsystem was weak and had no energy. However after reading some reviews of Chaos I decided that I liked 311 enough to attempt another go at their new music. Unlike Soundsystem, Chaos has lots of exploding energy. Soundsystem felt like 311 was being hard just to be hard and the songs that came from it felt like it tremendously, plus the lyrics were way too played out, instead of leading 311 was following, trying to play catch up. However,Chaos rocks, grooves, and blends beautiful sounds together for a tight, tight album. Grassroots is by far my favorite album, followed closely by Transistor. Grassroots has this energy between hexum and the rest of the band that is just simply unbelievable. Well this same type of energy can be found on Chaos, where 311 also embrace their softer side, with Amber and Champaine, a song that I still can't get out of my head, which is not that bad of a feeling. Straight Up: If you liked Grassroots and Transistor, Chaos would be a perfect purchase.
