Free Music Review: Amazing Music
Hit: 5 Stars

What makes 311 so much better than just about all mainstream bands these days is how tight they are as a band. They are by far the best live show i have ever seen, which is why they are my favorite band. From chaos shows that they have so much diversity in there music, and they have greatly expanded this, making heavier songs than they have been on Soundsystem and Transistor, to very mellow songs like Champagne and Amber. Also, the song "Uncalm" is, in my opinion, one of their best ever, with absolutely amazing lyrics and vocal harmonies, and a simple yet stylistic and original opening/closing melody. The only bad thing about this album i think is that it lacks the cool, trippy qualities that they had on their two previous albums. But, I must say, even after being together for 14 years they are still getting better. Quality musicianship, quality music.

Free Music Review: Don't listen to Miss Maerz here...
Hit: 4 Stars

First of all, I give this a 4.5, Transistor is a 5 in my book...

The review from Amazon.com on this album is ignorant. "From Chaos" is a brilliant album, by a band that is over stereotyped in the whole rap/rock genre. 311 is so much more than typical angst rap/rock (linkin park, korn, etc) they have one of the best drummers in rock ( except Danny Carey from Tool of course) and both of their lyricists are simply amazing. Miss Jennifer basically said "Whoa, Amber is the color of your energy" is pathetic, when in fact, this is more like the amazing and groundbreaking lyrics we heard from "Transistor" Nick is talking about aura's here, for those who have no clue what these are, just go read up on them (yahoo works well) and you'll discover the depth and originality behind Nick's and SA's lyrics. Although in my opinion, 311 doesn't tap the fountain as Tool does, 311 is one of the only bands to stay positive in the midst of all this angst-ridden manufactured garbage called "rock." We should be thankful for musicians like Tool, Dredg, 311, Deftones, etc for giving us true auditory beauty. And making music for themselves, not for the record company execs,

Free Music Review: Chaos... hmm....
Hit: 3 Stars

I love 311 don't get me wrong, but this album just didn't hit the spot for me. How they went from 'Soundsystem' to this is beyond me, but I know for a fact that these boys are capable of making masterpieces. The problem is that this album just doesn't flow as well as their previous set. It's choppy and haggard and repetitive at times and there are only five standout tracks where the lyrics are exceptional and the music itself is promising proving that they know what to do. I know that my favorite rock group will come with something better next time.

But it seems like the second half of this album which is a bit slower and clamer is where the boys find their zone. From "Champagne" through "I'll Be Here Awhile" is just a less messy area, a bit more organized than the first six songs which were everywhere but where they needed to be. "Uncalm" shows how terrifyingly amazing 311 are. The vocals are the highlight of this track and then you come to the section between the verse and the chorus where you'll find this tiny instrumental with a spooky wail that kills me. An awesome track. And then after that amazing song comes "I'll Be Here Awhile" which has more fantastic harmonizing and just great all around musicianship.

Best tracks (to me) are:
7. Champagne (easy on the ears, they pull it off really well)
9. Wake Your Mind Up (this song is hard to explain, but it's good)
10. Amber (another soft song that was done really well)
11. Uncalm (easily the best song on the album)
12. I'll Be Here Awhile (a good song, great vocals and guitars)

Basically, this album is split 50/50.

Free Music Review: Worth the money
Hit: 4 Stars

Although this isnt 311's best work, its still a decent release.

You Get Worked 9/10- Great opener reminds me of songs from the blue album, although SA voices gets annoying in the chorus

Sick Tight 10/10- Awsome, fast paced song. Very fun to listen to.

You Wouldnt Believe 4/10- Alright im not gonna front. this song was cool the first few times I heard it but now its got pretty stale. The gutairs are so [weak] in this song. Good bass line though.

Full Ride 9/10- Nice metal intro, cool lyrics, all around good song.

From Chaos 6/10- The song starts off promising but seems dragged out once you get into it, nothing to write home about.

I Told Myself 8/10- Good tune, although not perfect I usually listen to it everytime and never skip.

Champagne 10/10- Outstanding mellow tune. The perfect song to relax to.

Hostle Apostle 8/10- Good opening and closing gutairs, and the raps were good. Overall a good song.

Wake Your Mind Up 9/10- Love listening to this song in the dark ;) the vocals gutairs drums are sweet as hell. One of my fav. 311 songs.

Amber 6/10- Okay, but it is way to overplayed.

Uncalm 9/10- Great song with a mean ... gutair riff.

I am not gonna comment on Ill Be Here Awhile...

Free Music Review: same old sound; but not bad
Hit: 4 Stars

"From Choas" may seem somewhat similar to the previous 311 albums but its still worth listening to. Tracks like "Amber" and "Champagne" are a great compliment to the catchy "You wouln't believe" and groovy "I'll be a while". But despite these songs the album cant escape its formulaic theme, e.g. lead singer rhyming away while another is rapping. Great idea, but very much beaten to death. All in all buy it if you're a fan, if not then burn off a friend. Good stuff, just not great.
