ok, 311 didn't invent the whole funk/rock/metal/hip-hop thing, (that credit would have to be given to the red hot chili peppers), but they sure as hell do it really damn good. every song on this album is very cool and it contains a pretty good mix of hard thumpin numbers (Freak Out, Welcome, Unity, Fat Chance) to groovin mellow songs (Paradise, Nix Hex, My Stoney Baby, Do You Right) and everything in between. The combination of rap and singing interplay between Nick Hexum and SA Martinez is outta this world, they really sound good together. P-Nut is a very skilled bass player (he's no flea, but he can hold his own) and alot of the songs' mellowness and feel depend on his playing. Tim Mahoney is a good guitarist, his playing is very diverse (influences range from rock, to punk to jazz, to funk, to reggae, to latin, everything) which is essential to the band. He is actually very talented but he tends to back off on the records. Chad Sexton's drumming is very funky and gives that distinct 311 beat. In my opinion, one of the best bands out there today. If you are looking to get into 311, this is the record to get started. One of my all time favorite albums

Free Music Review: Music for the Body and Soul Hit: 5 Stars
This record is 311's best, plain and simple. More finely produced and consistent than the small indie-releases that preceeded it, but lacking the filler that began to slip into their later albums, starting with Blue. Music is the heart and soul of everything 311's music was meant to be. No record will move you and reach into your heart the way this one will. This one goes from quiet (Intro) to loud (Feels So Good), from fast (Plain) to slow (Nix Hex), from angry (Fat Chance) to joyful (Do You Right) and through it all never loses your attention. 311 are one of the tightest music-making units on this earth; and it helped that they all grew up together in Omaha. Hear SA Martinez before he diluted the mix with turntables in later albums. Hear bassist P-nut churn out some of his most ambitious basslines and solos. Hear guitarist Tim Mahoney solo straight from his heart. Hear Chad Sexton's hands move with ease and precision around the drumkit, letting his background in drum corps show through. And know why 311 are something special; a cut above every other rap/rock band out there.

Warning: WILL BLOW YOU AWAY. This album is highly dangerous and may end up causing brain damage from rocking so hard. Let all be warned. Someone could get seriously hurt. Your mind may never be the same.^^Pay attention to that^^ Wow! 311 quickly became one of my favorite bands after i heard this album. I heard From Chaos first and really liked it so i decided to try some of their old stuff. I got this album and i am hooked. They have such a unique, amazing sound and it never gets old. Blending alternative, ska, reggae, hip-hop, and who knows what else like this earth has never seen before. Each song sounds completely different. I don't know how many records you can say that about but Im sure its less than a million. ...only good. Feels so good, visit, and do you right are fantastic, but so are all of them, theyre just a little fantastic-er...errr.. well, time for my medicine. later. (get it) (now) p.s. im really sorry i know im not funny just real obnoxious and you can kick me if you really want to.
Free Music Review: 311 At Their Best Hit: 5 Stars
I've loved 311 for a long time and even though every one of their cds has found their way into my stereo many times, I still believe that their first album, "Music," is their best. Many of their later albums they have been experimenting, although their newest, "From Chaos," is pretty solid. However this one defintely proves that 311 knew what they were doing with their music (but not with their lives; their first tour led to their RV breaking down and burning with all their possesions including equipment getting destroyed.) I guess you could call this rap-rock which you wouldn't call their newer albums. But I've heard some reggae like style in here and it mixes very well. It is really easy to listen to the whole thing but for some reason I can't get into it when I skip around between songs. Anyway, if you have any 311 cds or are into punkish rap-rock I suggest you buy it soon. They also rule in concert; I saw them at the Warped Tour and they were great and most of their songs came from this album.
