Free Music Review: Blink-182 Fans, Have No Fear... (+44) Is Here!
Hit: 5 Stars

For the record, I am not 13 years old. I just don't have an account on Amazon, seeing as how you must purchase something through the website in order to get an account. In fact, I am 19 years old and an avid music lover. I'm more into genres such as Metalcore, Punk Rock, etc., however, I will listen to almost anything if it catches my attention and interests me. What matters to me is quality, not quantity. I want to know if I'm getting my money's worth. I could care less if there are 25 songs on an album or only 3 songs on an album, though it'd be more like a severe lacking LP. I care about the quality of the recording, lyrical value, musicianship, and so on.

This has been proclaimed several times as what would've been Blink-182's next album. Also, it is popularly rumored that a lot of the tracks on this album are some of the b-side and unreleased material laying around after Blink-182's demise. Of course the only thing missing, unfortunately, is Tom DeLonge's voice. You have 2/3 of Blink-182 and you can tell that there's something missing, and you begin to miss it yourself. Where you hear Mark Hoppus's vocals and bass, and Travis Barker's drum skills, you should be hearing Tom DeLonge's vocals and guitar ripping up as well. Sadly, you don't. Had DeLonge stuck by Hoppus and Barker, then Blink-182 would've been recognized for yet another incredible release, which without a doubt would've gone famous world-wide as did some of their other albums. Of course this release would've sold much more than it did had it been listed under "Blink-182" instead of "(+44)." Nonetheless, this is a great release by Hoppus and Barker, along with fellow bandmates Craig Fairbaugh and Shane Gallagher.

There is a wide variety on this album. Not only is there a combination of musicianship here, but the effects are interesting too. There was A LOT of mixing done on this album, and it was produced nicely and greatly. The album is overall very well-done.

I do not know the differences between the albums with the pink, blue, and green album covers. You can tell that not only does the sound of the album sound very Blink-182-esque, but it looks Blink-182-ish as well. Do you remember how creative they were with the 'Take Off Your Pants and Jacket' release? There was a green album, red album, and yellow album, and each album contained 2 different bonus tracks.

My personal favorites on this album are 'Lycanthrope, Baby Come On, When Your Heart Stops Beating, 155, Interlude, No It Isn't,' and 'Make You Smile.' '155' is my most favorite track on the album, sounding very rock-ish and techo-like. 'No It Isn't' was their very first release ever, with lyrics pretty much explaining the Blink-182 break-up in a nutshell. 'Make You Smile' features original (+44) guitarist Carol Heller of the all-girl band, Get The Girl. She left the original line-up of the band in order to start her own family with her newlywed husband.

I recommend you also check out '145, Christmas Vacation' and the original recording of 'No It Isn't.' '145' is a very well-done acoustic version of '155.' 'Christmas Vacation' is just a cover of the Descedents's song, which is one of Barker's all-time favorite bands (Hence, the Descendents's "Milo" logo tattooed on one of his calves.) The original recording of 'No It Isn't' features Carol Heller singing along with Hoppus. The album version features an extra verse and some extra instrumental work.

Definitely buy this album!!! I have yet to see them in concert, but I most definitely plan on it. I'm sure they throw one hell of a show. I remember seeing Blink-182 with New Found Glory in 2000 and that was a great show. Of course I'll miss seeing DeLonge, but maybe just maybe I'll try catching an Angels & Airwaves show sometime to get my DeLonge fix.

When Your Heart Stops Beating Poster

When Your Heart Stops Beating Explicit Version CD: Former blink-182 co-founders Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have reunited under the aegis of a new band, (+44), and will release their much anticipated album, When Your Heart Stops Beating on Interscope Records. The album is produced by Hoppus and Barker and executive produced by long-time blink-182 producer Jerry Finn. Recruited for their new journey as (+44) pronounced Plus (+44) Shane Gallagher (The Nervous Return) and Craig Fairbaugh (Transplants, The Forgotten, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards) join singer-bassist Hoppus and drummer-keyboardist Barker and pick up where the popular, multi-platinum-selling band blink-182 left off after splitting in late 2004. We were twothirds of blink-182, so we're not afraid of sounding like ourselves, says Hoppus. We're not divorcing ourselves from the past, but we are pushing beyond the past. We're progressing like musicians should. Barker agrees: Mark and I have a natural chemistry after playing together for so long and it's only gotten stronger. This band is a continuation of blink-182 but it's also different. For a long time, blink-182 was an underdog. I like being the underdog again.
A few years ago, it would have been impossible to imagine the members of Blink 182 occupied with anything that didn't involve poop jokes and pixilated private parts. Now Tom DeLonge is channeling early U2 with Angels and Airwaves while former bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have reunited as +44, another numerical band named after the international calling code for the United Kingdom. The twitchy punk rhythms, adolescent accented vocals, and blockbuster choruses of their former outfit remain, as does producer Jerry Finn, but songs like "Baby Come On" and the spooky "Little Death" show the musicians finally delivering the substance that was promised on Blink 182's self-titled 2003 release. "A little death makes life more meaningful," Hoppus sings on that latter. --Aidin Vaziri
