Free Music Review: This is 50: What did you expect? Hit: 4 Stars
50's third album has received a lot of negative press. From the delays, to the dud singles, to losing the sales race to Kanye's "Graduation". In fact the writing was on the wall on this album long before, when G-Unit releases (Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck) started flopping. Tony Yayo beating on young kids did not help the G-Unit cause either. One could even argue that the split with Game which resulted in Dr. Dre's semi-retirement; or even Eminem's Kim inspired semi-retirement (Note that both Dre & Eminem are missing from the executive producer credits) all conspired to doom the album before it came out. That is if you consider 600K in your 1st week a failure.
On to the album. 50 Cent really outdoes himself on this one. The album has a perfect balance between commercial and gangsta (a criticism of his last album). The album is far superior to "The Massacre". The running time is perfect (not too long). As usual 50 Cent digs up great beats from little known producers. Including a couple of gems from underground favourite Jake One who acquits himself well on the commercial arena.
The 1st six tracks are vintage 50 Cent, which is good news for long time fans & will surprise those that only know 50 Cent from his videos. The beats are sick and 50 is talking smack like only 50 can. "I Get Money" is already an anthem & "I Still Kill" is a classic. The beat on "Man Down" more than makes up for all the bleeps (the track is censored). Its so sick I'm sure Dr. Dre wishes he had produced it himself.
50 Cent doesn't forget radio and he caters for it with good effect throughout the album. Starting with the monster single "Ayo Technology" & the ultra smooth "Follow My Lead" with Robin Thicke. Later on Nicole Scherzinger & Mary J Blige lend a hand to increase the pop appeal of the likely singles "Fire" & "All Of Me".
The early singles "Straight To The Bank", "Fully Loaded Clip" & "Amusement Park" may not have succeeded at radio but their inclusion does add to the overall quality of the album. The latter is not great but neither was "Candy Shop" for which it is a sequel.
The rest of the album is fairly consistent and overall this is the best album 50 could have released. If it fails its because that East Coast sound is not what's hitting at the moment & lets face it, 50 Cent is not the greatest on the MIC. Criticism of his subject matter is irrelevant, this is 50: What you expect?
Free Music Review: What's Wrong with "More of the Same" from 50 Cent? Hit: 4 Stars
"You know tomorrow's just a day away/If you can just keep your heart beatin' and your ass awake."--50 Cent.
Released on the same day as Kanye West's Graduation, and produced by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Timbaland, among others, Curtis is rapper 50 Cent's (Curtis Jackson) third studio album. It features guest performances by Akon, Justin Timberlake, and Nicole Scherzinger (from the Pussycat Dolls). While the critical response to Curtis has been mostly negative ("more of the same" from 50 Cent), I like this CD/album (though not as much as his earlier work). Time Magazine named one of the five singles from Curtis, "I Get Money," one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007. The lyrics on Curtis are equal parts grit and wit, the beats are solid, and the music is a fusion of hip hop, gangsta rap, and contemporary R&B. Okay, so the music here is familiar and what we've all come to expect from 50 Cent. What's wrong with "more of the same" from a guy who has already proven himself with his 2003 release of Get Rich Or Die Tryin (the the biggest selling album of 2003) and his 2005 release of The Massacre (the second biggest-selling album of the year)? Tracks include:
1. Intro
2. My Gun Go Off
3. Man Down
4. I'll Still Kill
5. I Get Money
6. Come & Go
7. Ayo Technology
8. Follow My Lead
9. Movin' On Up
10. Straight To The Bank
11. Amusement Park
12. Fully Loaded Clip
13. Peep Show
14. Fire
15. All Of Me
16. Curtis 187
17. Touch The Sky

Free Music Review: Better than The Massacre Hit: 4 Stars
I must say i was eagerly awaiting hearin this album esp after the monster singles of 'I get money' and 'Ayo-technology'. Gettin right dow to the meat of the matter:
1)Intro- the intro is a dialogue from the movie shooter which not only reflects humour but perfectly preps the listener for the 2nd track. After listenin it over a few times and hearing every word, this will become one of your favourite intros to listen
2)My Gun go Off- On pace track that commences as soon as the intro ends, and suddenly comes in to give a head rush to the listener. The track starts the album off better than 'What up Gangsta?' from the Get Rich... album. The lyrics are all on point and relate to the name and topic of the song perfectly. The chorus delievers as does every 50 created hook does and will stick in your mind. The Beat is also hypnotic, one of the best on the ablum (claps to Adam Deitch & Eric Krasno). 50 also displays a flow unlike any heard from him b4. Pricelesss! this is a 5 ***** track
3)Man Down- first to catch the ear is the that hypnotic paino cord, followed by the kick n drum, then 50s tagline laugh/hoot. Not only does the track follow a trailed story but seemlessly rolls on from the previous track in theme though the pace is a bit slower. The track has some edits but not your everyday profanities.
4)I'll Still Kill ft. Akon- probably the most unique beat on the album instantly gets the head bopping and your thoughts at a twist. 50 comes at this track hard killing the verses in true lyrical gangsta play manner. Clearly another album favourite. Akon also delivers as expected on the hook and a sub-verse of his own.
5)I get money- Clearly the biggest 50 single since 'In da Club' i will not lament on the greatness of this track
6)
Free Music Review: 3.5 Stars... As expected Hit: 4 Stars
I have been a Shady/Aftermath/G-Unit fan since Chronic 2001. I fell deep into the G Unit craze in 2003 and 2004. When 50 would beef I felt like I was in the beef along with him. However the more negative attention 50 brought upon himself I felt like he wasn't producing lyrically anymore.
So when September 11th came I wasn't at all suprised to see a half a$$ job on Curtis. Much to my dismay it reminds me of when Eminem put out Encore. A top seller for sure... but nothing like the creative albums he has put out before. I like the album. I mean there are thousands of albums that come out every year that talk about the same gang banging, drug dealing, women seducing things that 50 talks about but they don't sell because there name isn't 50 Cent. So where am I heading with this review? Well lets put it like this. Get Rich or Die trying sold like hot cakes, The massacre crushed everything, even 50's soundtrack sold extremely well (over 3 million copies). Curtis will sell at least a million, but the album is a failure for a star of 50's magnitude. There are commercials for CURTIS, never before would 50 have to have a commercial for him to sell. Overall he has tried way to hard to sell his CD when he should have been working on something new rather than this mediocre album.
