Free Music Review: groovy, baby !!!

The 60's Ultimate Collection, Vol. 1: The History of Rock has a remarkable twenty-four tracks on a single CD that pop out at you and make you remember that classic `60s sound. This will also bring back memories for those of us who first heard these great numbers on the radio.
"Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & The Papas is one groovy tune that is catchy, well done and performed with such sensitivity that people still recognize and love this tune today. "'Til" by The Angels features a wonderful, beautiful slow dancing ballad that will charm you with its beauty. The musical arrangement makes great use of the percussion and horns, too.
Listen for the psychedelic "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)" by John Fred & His Playboy Band; they sing and play this number very well and it sounds great even all these years later. I love that percussion on "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)." "Who Put The Bomp" by Barry Mann sounds great as he bats this one straight out of the ballpark; and the backup vocals are perfectly done.
"Five O'Clock World" by The Vogues has a great sound that I love to hear ever time I hear this one; and "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & The Papas remains one of the strongest tunes of the entire 1960s; it inspired a great many young people to migrate to California in search of spiritual freedom and a better quality of life. "1,2,3" by Len Barry has a catchy tune that never escapes my memory; I think this song is a terrific number and Len never misses a beat on "1,2,3," either!
"One Fine Day" is an excellent example of a great girl group from the 1960s; The Chiffons sing this flawlessly and the musical arrangement uses the percussion and guitars so well. Moreover, "The Gypsy Cried" by Lou Christie features a great number with Lou switching back and forth between his tenor and falsetto; this impresses me very much.
Overall, this initial installment in this CD series offers us a whopping abundance of great music. I highly recommend this album for fans of that 1960s sound--especially the newcomer to this sound who may not yet have these songs in their collections.
