Free Music Notes for A Chorus Line (1975 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Hamlisch's Best Hit: 4 Stars
There's a lot to like on this album. The orchestrations are somewhat atonal, but appealing. The performances are fairly good overall, although "At The Ballet" is a standout on this album. My personal favorite track is "The Music And The Mirror". If you are a fan of the period of music or of Broadway, this is a must.
Free Music Review: More Like 3 and Half Stars Hit: 3 Stars
a local long island theater did a revival of this about a year ago, and i played 3rd trumpet for it...granted it doesnt compare to broadway, but i loved it, since it was my first time performing in a pit orchestra...chorus line got me into theater...i am now a regular pit member and buy soundtracks all the time...yet, there is something unique about this soundtrack...the music is great and it really shows what life is like for a teen (listen to the montages)it hits home obviously..its a shame the monologue by one of the main characters couldnt be included because it is so poignant, but you cant demerit the soundtrack for that...naturally im biased as a trumpet player, so naturally all trumpet/brass parts stand out to me...but listen to the opening:i hope i get it...the energy builds and then the dance instructor goes "and now the girls, ah 5, 6, 7, 8!" in a crescendo that just builds into a huge orchestral part...i LOVE it!!! the music and the mirror is another personal favorite...the woman Cassie's voice is spectacular and the big orchestral part is a great jazzy section over her dance on stage...it slows, builds witha jazzy sax solo and then the trumpet solo hits...and BOOM! you are thrown into an energetic piece...its AMAZING I can do that is a funny little tune about the character as a little boy...its a fun one the rest are of course, good, and the soundtrack is worth the money...im just biased because the local version added parts that i wish had been in the broadway version (like a long island theater can dictate broadway) but still, this is a great buy!
Free Music Review: Perfect First for a collection Hit: 3 Stars
The best thing about A Chorus Line is not only does it have great music, great lyrics, and a great script, but also it lets the entire world see what actors, singers, and dancers go through. Which is why I put this as the First CD to buy for someone interested in broadway. If you have a collection and don't have this, best get on that. This show is a great introduction into broadway and a wonderful study of the arts. Favorite Songs: "Sing" & "What I Did for Love"
Free Music Review: No stars with a 5-star song! Hit: 3 Stars
None of these songs had perennial show stars but the tunes are pretty enjoyable. The reprise of "One" is a favorite, my personal Broadway favorite of all time! Grab this CD if you are an avid fan, but wait a little while if you are just getting started.
Free Music Review: Great show -- rotten singing Hit: 2 Stars
Chorus line is a great show to watch, but the music is not very good and most of the female singing on this disc is abominable -- harsh, unattractive and unmodulated. As Broadway musicals go, this is one whose cast cd should be avoided.
