Free Music Notes for A Chorus Line - The New Broadway Cast Recording (2006 Broadway Revival Cast)

Free Music Review: Great recording!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an excellent recording of the revival of the Broadway show. It contains more material than the original and is faithful to the original as well.

Free Music Review: You'd have to be there
Hit: 2 Stars

A Chorus Line is one of those musicals you have to see to believe. It's all about visuals.

This CD is nice for those who saw the show, however, there is only about two songs that are worth listening to if you can not relate to what is going on.

On it's own, this CD barely floats for entertainment value.

Free Music Review: A very good record of a great show!
Hit: 4 Stars

Look - you can compare "original cast recordings" with "revival recordings" all you like but will you really find the true defining work.
I have seen this show a number of times including an early Broadway cast and I have to say that in my humble opinion this recording holds up very well indeed. It is great to have a more complete recording than the original. This one sparkles in its own way - but then so it should - after all recording techniques have changed over the years, and CD's allow more content than vinyl.
So which is better? I won't say - because each has its own appeal. So go like me and have both the OBC AND this revival!!!
You'll love both I am sure!

Free Music Review: This Show is AMAZING
Hit: 5 Stars

Although many other people have criticized this cast for its departure from the original production, I think this cast is awesome. Although you can never truly trump an original, the vocals in this cast are much more clear and they are truly amazing singers (and if you see the show, you'll know that they're also amazing dancers). The song, "What I Did for Love" is truly beautiful and a real tear jerker when you see it on the stage.

If you appreciate fine vocals, love A Chorus Line or love the sounds of the 1970's, this cd is perfect for you. I highly recommend that you buy this cd!!!

Free Music Review: Spot the difference
Hit: 4 Stars

The music for A Chorus Line sounded endearingly dated in 1975, so you can only imagine the impact it has today. All those harps, the wah-wah guitars, the twinkly flutes and the clunky percussion. Close your eyes and you can see the credits role to some early seventies TV sit com...

And yet... this is A Chorus Line, and we love it. Having just seen the show for the first time live (on Broadway, with this cast) I now undertand that the show really is as wildly inconsistent and totally odd as the movie suggests. But the cast give it their all and act like they at least pretend they know what's happening.

I've marked this down one star for Charlotte d'Amboise's rendition of The Music and the Mirror. Boy this lady can dance. In heels! But I can't admire her for the way she sings "Gimme a chaaaaance to come thruuuuuuu". It was even worse on stage, so we are spared at least some of the horror.

Other than that there are very few differences compared with the slightly better 75 OBC recording, just the muffled sound is removed.

Interesting both for novices and for those buying it just to compare to the original.
