Free Music Notes for A Hard Day's Night

Free Music Review: Beatles Breakthrough Album (4.5 stars)
Hit: 4 Stars

A Hard Day's night, of course with the huge movie hit, was essentially the album that presented The Beatles as a predominant pop/rock band, and showed that as a group could write their own material as well as covering songs by other artists.

Strong held up against albums from their early era, A Hard Day's Night is much more oriented on catchy pop tunes rather than, psychadelic masterpieces and similarly deep, dark compositions that came later in their career, most notably with Sgt. Peppers. The album kicks off perfectly, with a mystery chord, and then launched into the self titled track, a very catchy, innovative one indeed. I found essentially where this album lacked brilliance was in consistency, as after hearing the titled track, I sensed the album lost some of the energetic edge of the song, and A Hard Day's Night to me is the heaviest song on the album. Nevertheless, it's wonderful music, which in essence is the most important thing about The Beatles.
So, as we continue along the album, we get a very nice tune from I'm Happy To Dance With You. Easily the strong point of this album comes about around the transition stage from Side A to Side B, with tracks 5 to 8 being the best section on the album in my opinion. And I Love Her features lush, sentual lyrics, with a beautiful guitar strum. An excellent love song, and to follow that up, they go back to the upbeat, catchy tunes with Tell Me Why, with its quicker paced delivery and sing-a-long lyrics. Can't Buy Me Love is an immediate hit, with the classic lyrical delivery to jump start it, and its great poppy catchiness. Anytime At All is the same in a sense, and is my favourite song off the album. The lyrical delivery makes it an instant favourite, as well as the quick guitar runs. I'll Cry Instead is another highlight, falling into the bunch quite nicely, but lacks in length, standing as the shortest track on the album. In fact this album as a whole is especially short, clocking in at only 30:55, which is shorter than a typical Beatles album. Things We Said Today has a strong guitar strum, however lacks in the excitement of a catchy lyrical delivery. When I Get Home fixes that flaw, another catchy, heavier tune, with smooth lyrics. The album slows the pace back down with You Can't Do That, and finishes off on a relatively strong note, with one of the most enjoyable guitar strums on the album coming from the beginning of I'll Be Back.

To conclude the review, A Hard Day's Night cannot be considered an excellent choice for a top notch Beatles album to buy, however it is a superb effort for a band who hadn't quite yet reached their prime in songwriting abilities and instrumentation, however still produced a great album. 31 minutes worthwhile, I suggest checking out the follow up to this one Help!, as I find they take their talents one step further with that album. Of course late era albums are essential such as Sgt. Peppers, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Abbey Road, White Album(not for me though) and Magical Mystery Tour. Recommended to diehards, Beatles fans looking for early era Beatles music, and also maybe a good choice for 60s rock fans.

Free Music Review: Beatlemania, part 2
Hit: 5 Stars

If With The Beatles launched Beatlemania, then A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (the movie and this soundtrack) sealed it worldwide. The first album featuring entirely original songs, AHDN marks a big step forward for The Beatles and rock and roll in a time when singers and bands sang other people's compositions. This is the pinnacle of mid-60s British pop before the psychedelic era.

John Lennon dominates this album, starting with the strong opener, the self-titled AHDN, I Should Have Known Better featuring a jaunty harmonica, If I Fell and I'll Be Back (two of his sweetest ballads), the rockers Anytime At All and When I Get Home, the Wilson Pickett-inspired You Can't Do That and I'll Cry Instead, which features John's first confessional lyric (a la Dylan) expressing self-doubt.

Paul offers the million-selling hit, Can't Buy Me Love, and the strong ballads, And I Love Her and the underrated Things We Said Today. Otherwise, Paul takes a low profile.

The only weakness are the boy-meets-girl lyrics which were the standard of the day. Only I'll Cry Instead suggests any maturity in the songwriting, as Dylan's full influence hadn't yet touched the band.

Musically, the album's one great advance is George's introduction of the 12-string Rickbacker, whose jangly sound would be picked up by a folk quartet from L.A. later known as The Byrds. The Their success in turn would help push The Beatles in a different direction.

A final note: I still prefer listening to my Parlophone vinyl in stereo than to this mono CD. The stereo mixes are no better or worse than Help! and Rubber Soul, yet they remain officially locked in the EMI vaults. George Martin mistakenly believed that stereo mixes were never made in 1964, but this is not so. Perhaps one day Apple will have the good sense to re-issue this great album in stereo.

Free Music Review: Beatles Movie Soundtrack!
Hit: 3 Stars

This album has some classic songs on it such as the title A Hard Days Night.I Should Have Known Better is next and i love that song.
Other favourites are And I Love Her,Can't Buy Me Love,Things We Said Today and I'll Be Back.
Now i may get some arguements from some Beatle fans here but this is one of my least played Beatle albums.Im a big fan of The Beatles but i think that their heavy touring scedule and making this movie took its toll on the quality of this album.
Some of the songs are good, but there is a couple that i dont like.2 songs i can live without are If I Fell and When I Get Home.
This is their 3rd album and not as good as the first 2.
But upon being a bit critical, this album still is worth getting cause those songs i mentioned that are my fav's,are brilliant.

Free Music Review: Overrated
Hit: 1 Stars

What's up with the Hype. This album and the Wack movie are the reason why the beatles are overrated. "It's been a hard day's Night.." are those supposed to be Incredible lyrics? Buy Some album from The rolling Stones.

Free Music Review: This hard days night goes down easy !
Hit: 5 Stars

In it's simpliest form, music should make you feel good. The Beatles catalog is abundant with songs that achieve a good feeling on many diferent levels. From the cerebral to the insane. However, A hard days night leaves little to think about. Just enjoy ! This is probably the happiest album i have ever heard ! The boys seem really in sync and enjoying things. "If I fell" is brilliant, a supreme sing-a-long song. In fact the whole album is one big sing-a-along. The closing track "I'll be back" shows signs of the accoustic Rubber Soul days to come. "Things we said today" has always been the sleeper hit of the album for me. It shows stunning songwriting maturity for the time. I love "Tell me why" not to mention the masterpieces "Can't buy me love" "I should of known better" and the tittle track. If you do not feel good after a run through this joyous piece, then sign up for extra therapy sessions !
