Free Music Review: I CAN'T THINK OF A TITLE SO HOPEFULLY THIS IS GOOD ENOUGH
Hit: 5 Stars

(... This album) has everything you want in an album from the adreneline pumping "The Hollow" to the smooth, mood setting "Orestes" and "Breña". Every song on this album is excelent. Maynard James Keenan is the greatest singer ever.

"The Hollow" starts out with lots of energy and keeps you excited the whole time

"Magdalena" starts with a smooth bass line followed by a high guitar part. The vocals are some of the best on the album. All together a complete song.

"Rose" has some good guitar tricks and ends with a violin part. My least favorite but a good song anyway.

"Judith" as said "Keenan worships satan"(think what you want)
This song is awesome. A good guitar sound. This is the reason why most people think they're a Tool rip off. Still not Tool. One of the best here

"Orestes" has a good feel to it with nice sound to it. Shows off the writing abilities of the band.

"3 Libras" is a good acoustic sound at the begining but gets old when you hear it 1000 times but still a good tune.

"Sleeping Beauty" is an interesting song. the ending guitar solo is the highlite of the song.

"Thomas" shows best of both sides ,heavy and soft, to create a beautiful song. It changes styles but it all fits together very nicely. One of the best on the album.

"Renholder" is a mixing of sounds to make a short song that some would call a filler song but its really a good experiment

"Thinking Of You" has a good synthesizer line throughout the song and a harmonising bass line.

"Brena" is a good smooth song that provides for a good listen. Very good song. One of my all time favorites

"Over" should have been a full length song. The piano part is a good show of work and they had a good start on what could have been a long musical journey. I guess the band wanted to leave that as an ending with style. Something like that.

Well over all one of the best albums of all time. If you like Tool you should get this CD but it isn't Tool with a new name. They are a band not just a one time get together to create excelence. (...)

Free Music Review: 5 make A Perfect Circle.
Hit: 5 Stars

This is probably the best rock Cd that was released this year, there is not a bad track on this Cd. As much praise as Maynard James Keenan gets for this Cd (and it is well deserved praise) it's the band that makes this cd truly great. Billy Howerdel who produced and wrote most of the music, and mixed the album, should also get his due. Paz Lenchantin, Josh Freese, and Troy Van Leeuwen are all also amazing musicians.

As far as the vocals on this Cd Tool fans should know by now that this is not Tool part 2. Maynards vocals are amazing on this, proboably the best vocal work that he's done so far. All the songs on this album are different from each other and come together to make what is truly a masterpiece. While all the songs on this album are absolutely amazing, "Rose", "Thomas", "Orestes", and "3 Libras" are probably the best.

"Rose" starts off with softly distorted guitars and continues to pick up into a full on rock song, only to slow down again and end with a soft string arrangement, beautiful.

"Thomas" especialy is beautiful with it's deceptively soft intro that turns dark, and beautiful with Maynard's mantra like chants of "Show me the way to forgive you/ allow me to let it go".

"Orestes" is one of the best ballads ever made,a beautiful and soft song that borders on the creepy while still remaining deeply moving. With lyrics like "Gotta cut away/ clear away/snip away and sever this/ umbilical residue keeping me from killing you".

"3 Libras" is probably the albums most beautiful song on the album. With a beautiful string arrangement, soft guitars and probably the best lyrics on the album "Threw you the obvious/ and you flew with it on your back/ a name in your recollection/ down among a million same".

If you don't own this Cd you should, this is what rock and roll at it's best should sound like. It manages to be brilliant without being pretentious. The years best without a doubt.

Free Music Review: A Perfect Sound
Hit: 5 Stars

In the NSYNCish arena of modern pop-rock, Mer de Noms is a balm for the sick and weary. It is a captivatingly intelligent album, most of which consists of very post-modern sounding, haunting (yet oddly soothing), echoes and wails. "Magdelena," "3 Libras," and "Orestes" are three sterling examples of the album's overall ethereal musical ambiance. "Orestes," in particular, serves as an excellent example of the band's poetic proficiency. Orestes himself is the tragic hero from the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus' trilogy of plays, "The Orestia." I am oversimplifying for the sake of brevity, but in the original play, Orestes' mother, Clytemnestra, kills his father, Agamemnon. Orestes, then, believes he must kill his mother to avenge his father's death, evoking a clash of moral sensibilities so intense that even the gods are undecided concerning his guilt or innocence until the trilogy's finale (read it to find out what happens). The song "Orestes" takes the poetic liberty to describe a "missing moment" in the life of the tragic hero - a moment in which he can break his familial ties to his mother and see her only as a criminal. Unfortunately, this moment never does - indeed, never can - happen. Orestes will always be faced with the atrocity of his plight. Finally, in a very twentieth century sort of twist, Maynard intones an imagined plea from Orestes for "one last medicated peaceful moment." In a world in which truly peaceful moments can no longer exist, Orestes tearfully pleas for even a false one.
Amazingly, every song on the album is equally artful. If I had room I'd describe every song in even more detail then this one, but for want of more time and space let me simply say that if you do not yet own this album, you are already missing out. If you read this review and pass over it, then perhaps you are better off with NSYNC anyway.

Free Music Review: Blew away all expectations. . .
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD over a month ago, and it never ceases to amaze. Tool has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard "Sober" when Undertow was first released, and the impact of their music has never diminished. I had no idea what to expect from Mer de Noms, but I never expected anything as good as this. There are only two comparisons that can be made to Tool's previous work - first, Maynard's the singer, so comparisons have been inevitable and he brings his expectedly brilliant, emotive quality to the music. Second, the music is rife with experimentation, strangeness, and dissonance that harken back to the heavy, almost-psychedelic soundscapes created by Tool's masterpiece Aenima. With these noted, there are almost no comparisons to previous musical efforts by Keenan, and I would not be surprised if there were many Tool diehards who expected something similar, because they won't get it. That said, this album is amazing. Surprisingly enough, some of the best songs are the quietest, with "Orestes" and the radio-friendly (yet amazing) "3 Libras" having some of the best impact on the album. There are some heavy sounds on the album, but its true strength lies in its ability to blissfully convey such strong emotional images. Sonic experimentation is abound, and several tracks have off-kilter rhythms, utterly bizzare melodies, and other interesting elements that ensure that the album never gets boring. Perhaps the best thing that I can say about this album is that not only did I listen through the entire album when I first bought it in one sitting (that almost NEVER happens), once it was finished I thought, "I have to listen to this again!" I put it back on "The Hollow" (an excellent opener), and listened to the entire album again. If my enjoyment from this album is anything like previous works by Keenan, this will remain in my hall of fame for a very long time.

Free Music Review: Reviews don't need titles. I protest.

Despite what many seem to think, APC is not that much like Tool, nor is it meant to be. If you're not expecting this album to be anything when you buy it, you'll probably enjoy it much more than if you're expecting it to be another Tool album.
Anyway, this is clichéd, but this is really an album that stands out of the sickeningly familiar patterns of pop metal and delivers something new and unusual. Okay, now that that's out of the way, a song-by-song rundown:
The Hollow - Nifty. Nothing particularly special in any one aspect, just... nifty.
Magdalena - The last song I heard before I decided to buy the album. Kind of unusual, but still... nifty.
Rose - One of my favorite songs ever. I don't know what I like about it, though. My current theory is that it makes me nervous, an emotion which otherwise doesn't get much use, and it feels good to give it some exercise once in a while. Extra nifty.
Judith - The first ever APC song I heard. I liked it then, I like it only slightly less now. Fairly nifty.
Orestes - Not heavy, but definitely not relaxing. Doesn't make me nervous like Rose does, though. Also fairly nifty.
3 Libras - My mind always associates it with The Hollow, though it's quite different. I'd say... nifty.
Sleeping Beauty - I dunno, I can't really get into this one. It's quite different from the rest of the album, and frankly I don't like it as much. Ah well. Not quite so nifty.
Thomas - I like it while I'm listening to it, but I always forget it afterwards. Fairly nifty.
Renholdėr - See "Thomas." Fairly nifty.
Thinking of You - I can never come to a definite opinion on this one. It's also pretty different from the rest of the album, and sometimes I like it, and sometimes I don't. I'll just call it fairly nifty.
Breña - Same as "Thomas" and "Renholdėr." Obviously, fairly nifty.
Over - Unusual, but still nifty.
