Free Music Notes for A Single Man: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: A Single Man: Original Soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
The music to "A Single Man" is exceptional. It is perhaps the most beautiful soundtrack I have ever heard. There are two different composers who capture
George's (Collin Firth) emotional roller coaster. Abel Korzeniowski and Shigeru
Umebayashi should have gotten best musical score at the Academy Awards. Tom Ford
who directed, wrote the best parts of the screen play and produced it should have received best picture, best director in 2010. I am sure Tom Ford was instrumental in the music also as far as what he wanted to convey in the music emotionally, as he did frame by frame
to perfection in his screen play. The violins are haunting through out the main
theme. You can visualize every scene in the movie, just through the music. I can't say enough good things about the soundtrack and the movie.
I give it my highest rating and of course, I bought the movie too.
Free Music Review: Classic! Hit: 5 Stars
The movie is probably the most overlooked, unrecognized and unappreciated masterpiece from 2009. Tom Ford did a fantastic job directing and, if it was he, who chose the composer(s), then all the more impressive. The music gets the nuance of everything just right! How come this score was not nominated for an Oscar? It truly is a gem and it compliments the story in ways that are hard to describe. Many directors/producers/studios are quick to insert pop songs into thier movies so they can make a sale adding to their film's overall appeal and saleability. None of that compromise with this! It is a solid gem all on it's own!
Free Music Review: Beautifully Scored Hit: 5 Stars
The music on the soundtrack of "A Single Man" captured me upon seeing the film. The whole film is underlined by the beautiful theams of Shigeru Umebayashi and Bernard Herrmann. The pop songs of the era including Etta James's wonderful version of "Stormy Weather", Booker T. & The MG's soulful "Green Onions" and "Blue Moon" by Jo Stafford are all included. I look forward to the DVD release of Tom Ford's beautifully directed film with Colin Firth's award winning performace to keep forever.
Free Music Review: SIMPLY WONDERFUL Hit: 5 Stars
I may just be repeating what everyone else has said, but you can't rave enough about something this wonderful--whether the film or the soundtrack. I must say both are superior to much of the stuff that passes for art these days. Both belong in any serious film and CD collection. Everything that has been said here is worthy of repeating, but I won't. I'll just say, read them and join the choir!
Free Music Review: A Single Man Hit: 5 Stars
Rarely have I bought a soundtrack (this is my second) and I am 68. But listening to this music is magical. The violin and viola and cello are hauntingly beautiful and take you somewhere else-- somewhere where you'd like to be, not the opposite! There are two composers of the music and I don't know who wrote which part, but it is a wonderful "listen" all the way through.
