Free Music Notes for A Toda Cuba Le GustaFree Music Review: absolutely essential Hit: 5 Starsif only politicians could be moved by music, this is the album to play them. absolutely essential and uplifting music. better than the rest!
Free Music Review: Awesome. Hit: 5 StarsIf you like Ruben Gonzales, Afro-Cuban jazz, etc., then this CD is not to be missed. Even our 5 year old (aspiring fiddle -- not violin -- player)and 10 year old (1890's upright piano playing) daughters were groovin' during the initial play. AND the 14 year old (trumpeting, TEENAGE hockey player) said, "Cool." What more do you need to know!?
Free Music Review: Fantastic accompaniment to Buena Vista Social Club Hit: 4 StarsBuena Vista Social Club introduced millions to "old" style cuban music. Since its success, record stores have been flooded with inferior cuban albums. This album is the cream of the crop. Excellent, even a rock loving white boy like me can love it!
Free Music Review: Classic all around............................. Hit: 5 StarsThere has been more and more interest in Latin music. And as you listen to more of it, you understand that the interest is certainly valid. But in order to appreciate the music it would help if you returned to its roots. One branch of its "roots" would be Cuban music, and, extensively, the Afro-Cuban All Stars. Others know it as the Buena Vista Social Club. These legends in Cuba have been influencing music in Cuba and around the world for more than 50 years and combined they have more than 300 years combined! They include greats like Ruben Gonzales, Raul Planas and Ibrahim Ferrer among others. As you listen to this CD it is like a treasure trove of classic Cuban music. You listen to prime examples of Latin styles like the rumba, samba and mambo that all have solid foundations in today's Latin music. Even more wonderful about this CD is the irresistable mixture and improvisation that ensues by putting these legendary figures into the same room to perform together. The solos here are among the best I have heard on any Latin music CD. It gives you a deeper understanding on why music derived from the Cuban region is so important to Latin music as a genre and jazz as an influence. What is presented in this CD surpasses political boundries and presents real cultural traditions and history that are timeless. For any person that wants to explore Latin music or plain jazz, I would definitely suggest this CD as an essential element in their journey. Their search would be that much the richer. Try out track #1, "Amor Verdadero," as an example. Watch for the rich rhythyms, percussion, multiple harmonies and wonderful melody as well as the great solo work. I can guarantee you will not want to stop there!
Free Music Review: This disc needs to be in your collection!! Hit: 5 StarsA Toda Cuba Le Gusta is a great album. If you like to dance or just jump around and shake your hips, you'd love this! The songs are lively and exciting for the most part, though a couple are slower pitched yet still nice. This album does prove that the Cuban music of the earlier part of century 20 is INDEED still alive. My personal favorites from "A Toda Cuba Le Gusta" are "Amor Verdadero," Habana del Este," "Fiesta de la Rumba," Los Sitio' Asere," and "P?o Mentiroso" (LOVE IT!) but the other five tracks are beautiful as well. This album gets two thumbs and two big toes up (if that's possible). I recommend it to all who want to hear some great Cuban music.
