This is an excellent collection worthy of all the praise it has received. Some of the songs are so catchy that you'll be singing them for days. Like the other Buena Vista disks, this has terrific liner notes with translations so that even those who don't speak Spanish can appreciate the lyrics which is half the fun. Those who get hooked on Cuban music from this fantastic recording should take the time to find some of the earlier classics by Celia Cruz or collections like "El son es el mas sublime" which are excellent although they don't have the same sound quality.Free Music Review: All Stars Get Five Stars!

I bought this CD not knowing anything about the Afro-Cuban All Stars except that they play Cuban music. The purpose was to acquire a collection of music reminisicent of my recent trip to Cuba...it worked! I love this group. Their music takes me back to Cuba with the beat, words, and the soothing tune while the trumpets keep the songs upbeat and fast moving. This is music you can listen to either for relaxation or to get you in the mood to go out Latin dancing! This album has made a rainy Pacific Northwest winter much warmer--the horns have all the bright heat of sunlight, the rhyhms are infectious, as is the joy evident in all of the performances. This is an awesome cd, more up-beat than Buena Vista Social Club. I love all types of music but specially Salsa. If you want to hear what that genre started as, you should listen to this and other old Cuban music, after all the cubans invented the stuff. Somehow Ry Cooder just fits right in. Like I said we invented but we don't own it. Worth every penny.
