Free Music Review: A magnificent, original and individual debut.

What a debut this was! This album is as much performance art as pure music. Splicing soundbites from newsreel and film dialogue with political/religious rhetoric (1st Presbyterian Church of St Elvis the Divine), the band present a twisted vision through a series of alter egos. Don't be fooled though, this is no Alice Cooper. The band display a sophisticated down to earth humour that belies the subjects presented in the songs, drug overdose, alchoholism, false religion, extreme politics to name a few. At first you will laugh out loud at the references and lyrics and the humour doesn't wear thin after repeated listening, mainly due to the attention to detail in the albums overall vision.
So much for the style of the band, what about the music? Well the music is fantastic with killer hooks and driving bass all mixed to perfection. Their unique fusion of electronica/house/gospel/country and blues dominates the album, but they occasionally break to play straight to good effect. The album succeeds because the music is equal to (or better than) the theme and style of the performers. The tunes also remain remarkably fresh and you will replay and replay this CD like no other.
Order the UK release if you can get it (since the US release edits out much of the brilliant "Mao Tse Tung Said") and hoard it... since I've had to break fingers to ensure the return of my copy from brainwashed friends who lost all reason after hearing the A3's message.
No other album of mine has provoked as much interest and delight, I give it a well deserved 5 stars.
