Free Music Review: After All These Years It's Still Going Strong
Hit: 5 Stars

It's hard to imagine that an album released 26 years ago, in August 1980, would still be selling hot to this very day. Many of the albums that first came out back then are either out of print or selling at a much slower rate now than they were in late 1980. Not this one. Australian band AC/DC's first production with Brian Johnson as the lead singer is still "flying off the shelves", if you would call it that. To this day, the album with the pitch-black cover and a title to match it have sold over 21 million copies in the USA alone, and about 40 million copies worldwide. In the USA, this number of copies would land "Back In Black" among the top 5 best-selling albums of all time, including all of the various editions and formats that have come out since 1980.

This latest version of Back In Black is a new, improved version over the other editions, primarily regarding the package, and also the sound. The deluxe digipak includes pictures and information of the band, some of which were not seen before within the album jacket. Also, the sound quality has been enhanced, with more audible details and wider range of notes and the intensity of the beats. This is likely the result of new digital technology, which was not quite as developed in the early 1980s when the album was initially produced. Those listeners who have older editions in their collection along with this one can listen to them in succession and compare them. Then they can hear the difference for themselves.

Within this package is a collection of ten great songs, some of which were released as singles in the USA, and many of which were heard on the radio. Each of these tracks shares the features of Brian's screaming vocals and the trademark guitar solo act, which is found about midway through each song. The album begins with the mid-tempo "Hell's Bells", which starts with a bell ringing, and then an instrumental intro joins the bell, and then Brian starts singing. If you count the bell, you will notice that it rings a total of 13 times. "Shoot To Thrill" follows, a fast-paced number which would make a good dance song for parties or night clubs. Next comes "What Do You Do For Money Honey", a moderately fast track in which Brian performs the verses, then screams the chorus with a higher-pitched voice. Here the guitar solo is found both in the middle and at the end. Another moderately fast-paced selection, "Givin The Dog A Bone" comes afterward, where Brian first sings the verses; next he sings the title line and then the group echoes the title line in the chorus. This would also make a good dance song in parties or night clubs. Somewhat softer in volume and energy is "Let Me Put My Love Into You", in which the rest of the group joins Brian in singing a relatively melodic chorus, with good harmony. This piece slows down at the ending part, which concludes the first half of the album.

The second half of the album (side two of the original LP or cassette, or starting with the 6th track of the CD) begins with the title track "Back In Black", a mid-paced song with a prominent rhythm. Perhaps this song has significance for the group, in which they make a come-back with the new singer after the death of their first singer, Bon Scott. It was a hit in the USA. Another popular hit is "You Shook Me All Night Long", a creative and well-written love song, in which Brian sings the verses and everybody joins in for the melodic chorus. This piece has a good strong beat throughout, after the distinctive guitar intro. "Have A Drink On Me" is the B-side of the previous track (on the 45 vinyl single), which also has a powerful beat and could be a good party song. "Shake A Leg" is a fantastic dance song, which begins in a stop/start fashion but then picks up the pace. A good guitar accompaniment to the vocals evolves into a great guitar solo in the middle with fast picking and phenomenal fretwork. The album ends with "Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", which starts out with a slow pounding beat and a lecture. This relatively slow-paced song makes a statement in response to criticism of rock and roll, and portrays a great finale to this musical production.

This album comes after the untimely death of Bon Scott, the previous lead singer for this renowned group. Many bands might have decided to end their production of albums and songs after losing a member, especially the lead singer, but AC/DC did not give up after this tragedy. Instead, they found a singer who could fill the role once held by Bon Scott (though he could never actually replace the original singer himself: there will never be another Bon Scott). With his own unique voice and manner of presentation, Brian Johnson has the high energy and driven vocal style that proved suitable for an AC/DC lead singer. This album, "Back In Black", demonstrates that with its phenomenal sales volume and popularity. Music which is still enjoyed by long-time fans and sought out by newer listeners (many of whom were probably not even born yet when the album was originally produced) many years after its original appearance would earn the label "classic". "Back In Black" certainly deserves this honorable title.

Hit: 5 Stars

Back In Black(1980). AC/DC's Sixth Studio Album and the First to feature Brian Johnson on Vocals.

Poised on breaking through to American audiences, with Highway To Hell already being certified Gold stateside, things were looking up for Hard Rockers AC/DC. Then, Tragedy Struck. After a night of drinking, Charismatic frontman and vocalist Bon Scott choked on his own vomit(Eww!)ending his illustrious life, and putting AC/DC's career on the line. Luckily, AC/DC decided to continue on without Scott, so they hired virtual sound-alike Brian Johnson for the new vocalist, and set out to rock the world with their new album Back In Black, a Tribute to Bon Scott.Released only 5 Months after Scott's death, Back In Black shot up the Charts, Reaching the Top 5, riding on the heels of singles "Shook Me All Night Long" and "Black In Black", Back In Black stayed in the charts almost as long as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and has became one of Rock's all-time classics, selling over 16 Million to date. With instantly recognizable songs such as "Shook Me All Night Long", "Back In Black", "Hell's Bells", and "Rock And Rock Ain't No Noise Pollution", EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM RECEIVES RADIO AIRPLAY TODAY! Frankly, that is amazing, and I can't think of another album that even nears that, except for Led Zeppelin IV. Read on to find out what makes this album so great.

Track Ratings-

Hells Bells-Doomy Church Bells and Young's somber riff build the song up until it reaches full-throttle, with Johnson screaming out vocals that positively ring Bloody Murder, with lyrics to match.

Shoot To Thrill- Rudd's drumming and Young's catchy riff build up to the vocals, which truly shine in the chorus, where it's nearly impossible to not sing along. As with every other song, masterful solo by Young!

What Do You Do For Money Honey- AC/DC's Ode to Prostitution rings with the same raw energy early albums such as High Voltage had, and Johnson's sarcastic vocals shine throughout, and the chorus will make you bang your head a few times.

Given The Dog A Bone- Straight-Up Hard Rocker, Angus Young's catchy riff back up Johnson's vocals, which echo with the same power and conviction as Bon Scott.

Let Me Put My Love In You- A different sounding song than all the rest, this song echos back to Early 70's Glam Rock like Kiss, or even Mid 80's Iron Maiden. I just love the chorus!

Back In Black- AC/DC Hits back Full-Throttle with Back In Black, a Tribute to former vocalist Bon Scott. Instantly recognizable, Young's riff and Brian Johnson's oddly Axl Rose-y vocals scream with vigor, and they did a fine job of honoring their friend.

Shook Me All Night Long- Two Classics In A Row! My Personal favorite on the album, this song really makes me tap my feet. The most addictive Riff on the album, Brian Johnson's vocals are top-notch, and the chorus makes you helpless but to hum or sing along."SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG, YEAH YOU, KNOCK ME OUT"!]

Have A Drink On Me- A More bluesy number, this song still rocks as hard as any other. Young's Bluesy riff and Johnson's vocals mix perfectly.

Shake A Leg- Young's riff and Rudd's drumming perfectly mix to create one of the best beats on the album. Perfect for Parties!

Rock And Roll Ain't No Noise Pollution-...And AC/DC says why! Young's 3 Chord riff is instantly recognizable among Johnson's murmurings at the start, before the song rockets to new heights, with Johnson's vocals taking centerstage.

Overall, Back In Black is a classic that shouldn't be missed by anybody, and every song is flawless. Brian Johnson does an admirable job as frontman, but AC/DC never regained the success of Back In Black, but that's almost impossible! Angus Young is truly top-notch here, and his guitar work might just be his best!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! FANS OF ROCK AND GENERAL WILL LOVE THIS
ALBUM! IF YOU'RE GETTING INTO AC/DC, PICK UP BACK IN BLACK! ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITE ALBUMS!

Free Music Review: Best AC/DC Album Ever!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Back in Black was the first AC/DC album that I ever bought, and it instantly made me a fan of AC/DC for life. They are definately one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace the planet, and they're one of my favorite rock bands as well. I got this album about nine years back, and it's been one of my favorite albums since then, and I still listen to it to this day forward. I would also go on to collect all of AC/DC's albums since then including other classics such as Highway to Hell (1979), Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976), For Those About To Rock We Salute You (1981), and The Razor's Edge (1990), but Back in Black is without question AC/DC's best album ever, as well as one of the best selling albums of all time. Released on July 21, 1980 Back in Black is 10 tracks of pure loud, raunchy, high octane, balls-out, straight-up hard rock from beginning to end. This is also the first AC/DC album to feature singer Brian Johnson who replaces the band's original singer Bon Scott who died on February 19th of that same year from heavy drinking. Brian's raspy style vocals are just awesome and very effective throughout this whole album. Angus Young's guitar solos are just excellent on here, he's always been one of my favorite lead guitarists, and his brother Malcom is also an awesome rhythm guitarist as well. Cliff Williams's bass is pretty good and it keeps up with the guitars just fine, and Phil Rudd's drumming is simple, but it sure gets the job done. I really like the sound of his drums on here.

Every song on Back in Black is just excellent, and it also features some of AC/DC's biggest hits as well, including the slow, brooding opener "Hells Bells" which begins with slow tolling bells and then the great intro riff kicks in, and then the drums also kick in seconds later. I like Angus's solo around the 3:35 mark of the song. "Shoot to Thrill" is another big hit, and a faster high energy rocker. The chorus is just great, I like the one line "Too many women with too many pills". The riffs are great too as well as Angus's soloing. Other favorites on the album include track three "What Do You Do For Money Honey" and track five "Let Me Put My Love Into You". The title track "Back in Black" is another one of the band's best songs, and it's also a tribute to Bon Scott as well. The main guitar riff is just excellent, it's simply one of the most memorable riffs that I've heard on any song. Track seven "You Shook Me All Night Long" is another one of the band's big hit singles, and also one of the best hard rock songs ever. How could any hard rock fan not love a song like this? The main riff is just crunchy and addicting. Brian's vocals are great, especially in the chorus, and the solo by Angus is just awesome. This definately one of my favorite AC/DC songs ever, it just never gets old. Another one of my favorites "Have a Drink on Me" is an awesome, catchy blues rocker, and it's also a great song to listen to while rocking out or sipping on a cold beer (I prefer Coors Light). Track ten "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" is an excellent anthemic album closer with great lyrics and a solid, memorable sing-a-long chorus, and the guitarwork is great too. This is another one of my favorite songs on here, and an excellent way to end a classic rock masterpiece.

Overall, Back in Black is an essential hard rock album that not only rocks hard, but it hits hard as well. No hard rock/metal cd collection should not be complete without a classic album like this. I highy recommend this album to any AC/DC fan young or old. If you're a newbie, hey this would definately be a great album to start with. Buy this album now, crank the volume up, and play it loud...

Free Music Review: ACDC is all about the rock
Hit: 5 Stars

Like so many other hard rockers they broke into it with this no holds-barred, razor-toothed, bat out of hell, balls out bad ass of a album. They let the world know who they were and all of what they stood for. And like so many other bands they did it with they're own taste of style which was so different from every one else. They don't consider themselves a metal band but with music like that they don't have to cosider themselves any darn thing except good. Like so many other bands they escalated and changed as the times went by, but that was the problem they did it so much that their lead singer ended up dying, a heart and soul for any band. But then came the next step in change Brian Johnson or Back in Black. With his rusty bagpipes and hard- loving lyrics ACDC's death became they're rebirth as Monsters of Rock. The odds were all against them with they're lead singer dead, the band in morning, and recognition from Highway to Hell they had everything to lose. Would there be a comeback? Oh, they would come back and only stronger than ever. What made Back in Black so amazing was not that they were able to come back from a devastating loss or that it was so different from the usual ACDC music but that it was so different period, from all rock. From the hard-hitting dark and haunting love songs like "Let me put my love into you" and "You shook me all night long" to the rabid bites and chills of "Hells Bells" "Shoot to Thrill" "Shake a Leg" and "Back in Black" and then at the very end the ultimate F U to the dads and moms and nagging neighbors who told you to turn down or shut that garbage off "Rock and roll ain't noise pollution". In those songs they portrayed what is now looked at as the current ACDC: the incredibly hard and varied guitar solos from the Youngs, the leatherthroated licks like a "Beware of Dog" bark from Brian Johnson and most importantly the molding of it all like they had been playing together from the start. In comparison the sheer joy you get from listening to this album is like listening to Mozart for the first time if you liked classical music but in this case extremely hard rock. Just to let you know I'm starting to listen to classical music and I love Mozart. I can't think of an album that makes me want to bang my head more stomp my foot harder or yell the catch phrases louder. And speaking of catch phrases in this album alone their are probably the most and most famous of catch phrases. This album makes regular rockheads hard rockheads and wannabes wannabein a lot more. Back in Black is the ultimate for a true ACDC fan and a must for any starter. Like alot of bands before them they had now with this album mounted their flag as true rockers for everyone to salute. But unlike alot of other bands they stay out of the courtroom battles like so many other musicians have a problem with, they remain as brothers to each other, don't party to hard, they care about the fans and theirs shows and not about their paychecks, their noses and consciences are clean and are always trying to out-do themselves and even though they have popularity they don't try use that to their advantage to make any outrageous statements or come up with radical ideas for people to leach onto and promote, which makes them pretty good rock role- models to say the least. Basically when it comes down to it ACDC is all about the rock. And that's what it's all about.
