Free Music Notes for Back in BlackFree Music Review: TRASH! Hit: 1 StarsI never liked ACDC. Their music is just the same and sucks. BRIAN JOHNSON is as bad as BON SCOTT who just screams uses makeup and sells drugs. BACK in BLACK is a very lousy album which has the lousiest songs like the TITLE TRACK. DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF TRASH! GET FOREIGNER'S FOURTH ALBUM INSTED.
Free Music Review: After All These Years It's Still Going Strong Hit: 5 StarsIt's hard to imagine that an album released 26 years ago, in August 1980, would still be selling hot to this very day. Many of the albums that first came out back then are either out of print or selling at a much slower rate now than they were in late 1980. Not this one. Australian band AC/DC's first production with Brian Johnson as the lead singer is still "flying off the shelves", if you would call it that. To this day, the album with the pitch-black cover and a title to match it have sold over 21 million copies in the USA alone, and about 40 million copies worldwide. In the USA, this number of copies would land "Back In Black" among the top 5 best-selling albums of all time, including all of the various editions and formats that have come out since 1980.
This latest version of Back In Black is a new, improved version over the other editions, primarily regarding the package, and also the sound. The deluxe digipak includes pictures and information of the band, some of which were not seen before within the album jacket. Also, the sound quality has been enhanced, with more audible details and wider range of notes and the intensity of the beats. This is likely the result of new digital technology, which was not quite as developed in the early 1980s when the album was initially produced. Those listeners who have older editions in their collection along with this one can listen to them in succession and compare them. Then they can hear the difference for themselves.
Within this package is a collection of ten great songs, some of which were released as singles in the USA, and many of which were heard on the radio. Each of these tracks shares the features of Brian's screaming vocals and the trademark guitar solo act, which is found about midway through each song. The album begins with the mid-tempo "Hell's Bells", which starts with a bell ringing, and then an instrumental intro joins the bell, and then Brian starts singing. If you count the bell, you will notice that it rings a total of 13 times. "Shoot To Thrill" follows, a fast-paced number which would make a good dance song for parties or night clubs. Next comes "What Do You Do For Money Honey", a moderately fast track in which Brian performs the verses, then screams the chorus with a higher-pitched voice. Here the guitar solo is found both in the middle and at the end. Another moderately fast-paced selection, "Givin The Dog A Bone" comes afterward, where Brian first sings the verses; next he sings the title line and then the group echoes the title line in the chorus. This would also make a good dance song in parties or night clubs. Somewhat softer in volume and energy is "Let Me Put My Love Into You", in which the rest of the group joins Brian in singing a relatively melodic chorus, with good harmony. This piece slows down at the ending part, which concludes the first half of the album.
The second half of the album (side two of the original LP or cassette, or starting with the 6th track of the CD) begins with the title track "Back In Black", a mid-paced song with a prominent rhythm. Perhaps this song has significance for the group, in which they make a come-back with the new singer after the death of their first singer, Bon Scott. It was a hit in the USA. Another popular hit is "You Shook Me All Night Long", a creative and well-written love song, in which Brian sings the verses and everybody joins in for the melodic chorus. This piece has a good strong beat throughout, after the distinctive guitar intro. "Have A Drink On Me" is the B-side of the previous track (on the 45 vinyl single), which also has a powerful beat and could be a good party song. "Shake A Leg" is a fantastic dance song, which begins in a stop/start fashion but then picks up the pace. A good guitar accompaniment to the vocals evolves into a great guitar solo in the middle with fast picking and phenomenal fretwork. The album ends with "Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", which starts out with a slow pounding beat and a lecture. This relatively slow-paced song makes a statement in response to criticism of rock and roll, and portrays a great finale to this musical production.
This album comes after the untimely death of Bon Scott, the previous lead singer for this renowned group. Many bands might have decided to end their production of albums and songs after losing a member, especially the lead singer, but AC/DC did not give up after this tragedy. Instead, they found a singer who could fill the role once held by Bon Scott (though he could never actually replace the original singer himself: there will never be another Bon Scott). With his own unique voice and manner of presentation, Brian Johnson has the high energy and driven vocal style that proved suitable for an AC/DC lead singer. This album, "Back In Black", demonstrates that with its phenomenal sales volume and popularity. Music which is still enjoyed by long-time fans and sought out by newer listeners (many of whom were probably not even born yet when the album was originally produced) many years after its original appearance would earn the label "classic". "Back In Black" certainly deserves this honorable title.
Free Music Review: A classic that should be in any rocker's collection Hit: 5 StarsWhy would anybody consider buying this? You should already own it! I am ashamed of you that you are reading reviews and considering one of the absolute classic rock and roll albums. I hope that either your previous copy wore out, you are 12 years old and just being introduced to this or you just arrived from another planet and know nothing about culture.
BANG YOUR HEAD AND ROCK ON DUDE!
Free Music Review: Unquestionably one of hard rock's greatest albums 26 years on Hit: 5 StarsBefore I review this AC/DC album, I want the childish reviewers like whirligig, Kid Fallon and Heavy Fuel(who are all one in the same person) to stop the childish one star counter reviews and GROW UP and stay off Amazon!
Back to the review!
AC/DC's sixth US release Back In Black is one of rock's all-time classic records.
Released in July of 1980, this album is a classic case of triumph over tragedy. After the death of vocalist Bon Scott, the band were faced at quitting. However, Bon's parents recommended the band soldier on.
Guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young, bass player Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd enlisted Welsh born singer Brian Johnson and soldiered on. The band relocated to the Bahamas with returning producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange and engineer Tony Platt to record this classic masterpiece. Instead of going reggae or carribean, Back in Black was all about the three fundamentals of rock and roll. Sex, drugs and rock n' roll and Brian screams rather than sings.
The opening Hell's Bells is a masterpiece with lead guitarist Angus' guitar riff. The bell at the intro came to the band whilst Malcolm was in the restroom. Shoot to Thrill was inspired by the old Western movies and instead of guns, guitars are the weapons for the rock and roll outlaws. The following three tracks What Do You Do For Money Honey, Given the Dog a Bone and Let Me Put My Love Into You are all great rockers which still sound great today.
The album's second half kicks off with the title track which came about from a riff on the Highway to Hell tour and was another Top 40 hit for the band. The Top 40 hit You Shook Me All Night Long is a classic despite the fact Mutt wanted less words but AC/DC outvoted him. Have A Drink On Me is a great riff from rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young and is a send-off to Bon. Shake a Leg is next and is a killer rocker. The closing Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution is a kiss-off to the band's critics with a classic evangelist parody from Brian at the intro.
The album became AC/DC's first US Top 5 album(hitting #4) and their biggest seller(21 million copies and counting in the US alone).
Highly recommended!
