Free Music Notes for Back in BlackFree Music Review: Brian Johnson at his best!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been an AC/DC fan for ten years and I own all their albums, and I have to say that this is easily Brian Johnson's best album and quite possibly AC/DC's best album. Here's a full review of all the songs starting with my favorite to my least favorite.
You Shook Me All Night Long- My personal favorite on this album. Brian's vocals are top-notch and so are Angus's riffs. This is a song you can't help but sing along with and tap your feet to.
Back in Black- Easily one of heavy metal's most recognizable songs and one of the more rhythemic AC/DC songs. This song is really a silent tribute to Bon Scott (As is the whole album), and they really honored their former singer well.
Hell's Bells- One of AC/DC's signature songs. I love the way this song builds up from church bells to Angus wailing his guitar and Brian screaming his lungs out!
Shoot To Thrill- Another one of Angus's masterpieces. Rudd's drumming on this song is particularly good. Brian once again demonstrates that he can match Bon Scott note for note.
Rock N'Roll Ain't Noise Pollution- I love this song, and what better group to sing it than this! This song is AC/DC's answer to all their critics, and man does it shut them up!
Let Me Put My Love Into You- One of AC/DC's more restrained songs. However, that doesn't mean that Angus doesn't show how great a guitarist he is. I love the chorus on this song. This is an AC/DC song that your mom can withstand and probably the most romantic of their songs.
Honey What Do You Do For Money- Angus's riffs are once again off the charts. I don't particularly like the subject of this song, but it has a beat I just can't resist.
Givin The Dog A Bone- Rudd's drumming and Angus's riffs are what give this song its energy. The song itself is a little cheesy, but it still has a great beat.
Have A Drink On Me- A more blues kind of song. Brian does a great job on the song, but I think this song could have been better if sung by Bon. However, it is still a good song.
Shake A Leg- The worst song on this album. However, it is by no means a bad song. It is a great song to dance to. The only really bad thing about this song is that it is too repeatative.
There is no bad song on this cd. It is one of the few cds that you can listen to all the way through. I recommend this cd to any AC/DC fan who is willing to accept Brian Johnson even though he wasn't the original. This album is Brian at his best.
I also recommend the following AC/DC albums:
Highway to Hell- Bon at his best
Live (The Collector's Edition)- The best of Bon and Brian. Sung by Brian.
The Razor's Edge- Angus at his best.
High Voltage- AC/DC's earliest album and Bon's second best cd.
Free Music Review: A True Masterpiece!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Back In Black, was released in 1980. This was the first album That AC/DC recorded without frontman Bon Scott, who had died due to alcohol related problems. Brian Johnson, was picked to fill Bon's place, although admitted by Brian, he was there more to pay tribute to Bon than anything. Before I write this review I must make a couple points, first Back In Black, is the fifth best selling album in American music history, second it is the second best selling hard rock album, second only to Led Zepplin's 4. If that don't tell you something nothing will.
Hells Bells 10/10 - This is the quintessential opening track to this or any album. From the first toll of the bell to the last scream from Brian. Great song, and before you know it you'll be screaming at the top of your lungs HELLS BELLS!!!
Shoot To Thrill 10/10 - This is another hard rock gem, an awesome song that really gets your heart pumping. One listen to this and you'll be hooked.
What Do You Do For Money Honey 10/10 - This is a song about a very promiscuous woman, who does nice favors for people. Just listen you'll get it, its funny and rockin' what better combo?
Givin The Dog A Bone 15/10 - Well now, this is my second favorite AC/DC song, ( the first being Stiff Upper Lip ) this is straight up powerful RROCK 'N' ROLL! From the opening hit of the drum till the last note played, just plain awesome, I'm sure you'll agree.
Let Me Put My Love Into You 10/10 - Let Me Put My Love Into You, I am almost sure this is a sexual reference, but I can't be positive. This is a tad bit slower than the others, but don't misunderstand me it still kicks butt!!
Back In Black 15/10 - AHH!! Right here is the most notable song on the whole album. This is AC/DC's tribute to Bon Scott, and what a tribute it is. If you have never heard this song, before you play it, turn your stereo up as loud as you can and blow your head off!!! Well don't do that, but enjoy it anyway you like, great track.
You Shook Me All Night Long 10/10 - This is probably the most radio friendly song ever recorded by AC/DC. It is also one of their most popular for that reason i'm sure. This is a great song, but if you have heard it as many times as me it gets kinda boring, but awesome anyways!
Have A Drink On Me 10/10 - This is another tribute to Bon, at least thats what I say. I know I am not AC/DC, but just listen to the lyrics, and you'll see. Rockin' track one of their best ever!
Shake A Leg 10/10 - If you hav'nt caught on by now, every song on this album is at very least a 10/10. This song is no different, great song here and another AC/DC classic. Good rock 'n' roll tune.
Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution 15/10 - I must admit something, I never really liked this song until, I heard it on a Nike commercial during the Super Bowl this year. Since that commercial it is one of my favorites. I can't tell you why it just seems like a different song. It's awesome!!
Well there you have it, the very best album ever! Without a doubt this is a true classic, not one bad song on here. Buy this if you don't have it already, I have it on cassette, cd, and the deluxe digipack, I really don't know why, but I do!!! ROCK ON FELLOW AC/DC FANS!!!!
Free Music Review: AN ALL-TIME CLASSIC JUST GOT BETTER!!! Hit: 5 Stars
OK, firstly, AC/DC's catalogue is now going through Epic/Sony, after 20+ years of being in the Warner family. Now, hearing these new reissues, esp. "Back In Black", is like having a wool blanket removed from the speakers. These are taken from the original 2-track masters, first time ever, and the difference really shows!! This doesn't sound like an album recorded 23 years ago!! It sounds like it was recorded just yesterday!! As a result, you can file AC/DC's "Back In Black" under the category TIMELESS PURE UNADULTERATED ROCK N ROLL!!Produced by UBERPRODUCER Robert John "Mutt" Lange, aka Mr Shania Twain, this album, and the 1 before + one after, are what gave him his reputation as a producer. As later with Def Leppard, Foreigner and especially Shania Twain, Mutt's trademarks are the boosting of the middleranges and emphasis on lead vocals + backing GANG vocals. This really shows on BIB, and you can hear this influence on those later records. Basically, the guy deserves his wealth, as he knew what he was doing, and this album is just very well-done, period. The band is at the top of their game as well, which really was a miracle, considering the circumstances. The great Bon Scott dying tragically, and getting the whiskey-soaked Brian Johnson, formerly of Geordie, to take his place. This coulda been a disaster bar none, but Brian was a perfect fit, still with the band to this day, the album was a masterpiece, songwriting, performance-wise, and production-wise, and this all happened as their popularity just exploded!! Every song is a gem, a perfect example of pure, pull-no-punches, back-to-basics, bluesy rock + roll. It seems like every song here was a hit too, as each one had it's share of airplay on rock radio, plus 2 singles made the US Top 40!! The songs never grow old either, don't sound dated or show their age. Every song works on their own as a single, yet flow masterfully from beginning to end as a complete work. Basically, the album was flawless, is flawless, and will continue to BE flawless!! It's one of those albums, where if someone asks you what rock + roll is, you can play him/her this album, and you can say "here's your answer". From the doomy opening "Hells Bells" to the catchy energetic "Shoot To Thrill" to the golddigger putdown "What Do You Do For Money Honey" to the raunchy "Givin The Dog A Bone" to the slow seductive "Let Me Put My Love Into You" to the classic 1-2 punch "Back In Black" + "You Shook Me All Night Long" (covered by Anastacia + Celine Dion??!!?? on VH1 Divas Las Vegas) to the cool "Have A Drink On Me" to the catchy "Shake A Leg" and ending with the statement of purpose "Rock + Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", with the line "It's Just Rock + Roll, yeah", it's just a perfect album, period!! Buy it and treasure it. Guaranteed, in 50 years, it will sound shiny and new. Believe me, if you think pop music is all plastic ... these days, all manufactured and just junk, pop this baby on, and your faith in rock + roll will be instantly renewed. May AC/DC keep on going and going and going....
Free Music Review: Music to ROCK by!! Take THAT Metamorpho! Hit: 5 Stars
Yo. It's me, Guido, the guide that rarely comes to the aid of that old goat Metamorpho. I'm tellin ya-that guy is bonkers. I'm here with his laptop at one of my favorite New Yawk singles bars-The Fishnet. Man-are the babes here hot or what???? Yous guys gotta join me for a round of drinks. Hot! I'm tellin ya!
Yeah- I couldn't stand it no longer and took his computer to write a real review for a change. I dunno what happened to dat cranky Seer. Thought the psychedelic reviews ruled. But, as yous guys no, his taste in music now is waterlogged and lacks ENERGY BOOST!!! He coulda listened to me and reviewed good stuff like this. But no. Nevermind the asylum. The next stop for him will be the old folks home. I'm tellin' ya.
I ain't good at tellin' the history of AC/DC. Besides, yous nose all dat already. But, what I am good at is noing great heart pumping, mind-blasting, tough grinding ROCK MUSIC dat jolts your body into total aliveness! (Yes-even guides can feel alive-at times).
Slow start to "Hells Bells" which then moves into dat famous rock groove. But don't relax peeps. No. Each cut here is gonna take you out to a steep, snowy slope, drop you a thousand feet and speed you along an endless glacia (not unlike the ice cube in Guido's drink).
AC/DC are masters of the rock guitar riff. Listen to that tough lead on "Back in Black". I dunno. How great is great? Time and time they score. (My heroes in that department). Yo-listen to "Shoot to Thrill" and the hard thrust of the groove. This is livin' peeps. And they don't let up! "What Do You Do For the Money Honey" is more of the same. Moving Guido to a heightened sense of prowess! Ones gotta be bold and bring things to a point, if ya catch ma drift.
Alot of dese songs are about women and sex, sex and women, women and women, and sex sex sex. Hey, let's not kid ourselves. Dese things are eternal-even in ma world. Guido's favorite is "Let Me Put My Love Into You" for obvious reasons.
Peeps- ya can waste your time reading that wrinkly Seers reviews. Be ma guest. But he will never write a review about a crank-it-up Rock classic like "Back In Black". It is what good Rock is all about. No lame ballads, no moody crying, just right on, straight ahead tunes that grab ya and won't let go. Listen to it LOUD!! So loud that me and my group will hear it at The Fishnet. Oh yeah. You would all have fun with me around. Guaranteed.
Anyway, gotta go. Bartender brought me my 6th drink and there's this gorgeous blonde in the corner givin' me the eye. Take ma werd-get "Back in Black". Tell em Guido sent ya. Time for me to go into action. Showtime!!!
Free Music Review: 5 Stars...c'mon, was there ever any doubt? Hit: 5 Stars
AC/DC is one of those rare bands that all these years later, I can honestly say that I still enjoy listening to--almost as much as I did when I first heard it back in '80. It's also one of the ONLY bands that bring me and my oldest son together...something I cannot say about the music MY Father used to listen to.
Debates have raged for YEARS over who is better, Brian or Bon...? Honestly I love 'em both. While to this day SOME people have a problem being able to distinguish between the two (and some of those people even consider themselves FANS), I noticed the difference the second Brian began singing on the very first track I heard, which I believe was the title track. It took all of maybe 45 seconds for me to become a total convert. As long as I can get that old AC/DC FEEL, I honestly didn't care who sang it.
Originally Back In Black was a tribute album to the late Bon Scott, and at that point nobody in the band had a clue whether or not the record would be well received enough to warrant staying together or splitting up for good. I think virtually everyone was stunned to recoginize that not only did the band pull out all the stops with Back In Black, but the band was far from over. Good thing, too.
This new incarnation is EVERY bit as impressive as everyone is saying it is. I think a LOT of us have heard so-called Re-Mastered CD's that just don't live up to the hype, but that certainly isn't the case here. Those of us who listen to detail almost to the point of being a Geek about it can tell you that the process mastered here with this version truly has out-done themselves. Kudos to the Producers who literally made magic happen. Crisp and clean, very clean. I've been in the broadcasting business now for nearly 20 years and one of the perks and also one of the downfalls is constantly hearing songs recorded digitally, and some older songs recorded analog-style just plain suck. It's painfully obvious when that hiss plays where a recording has or hasn't been either done or done well...but once again, for those of you who go out of your way to look for that sort of dynamic in the recordings you listen to, boy have you have GOT to listen to this one.
While arguments will probably continue to soar over the inclusion of Back In Black as one of the Top-10 Greatest Heavy Metal albums of all time (in my opinion it VERY much deserves to be ON that list), there is NO doubt that this Re-Mastered version is (at this moment anyway) the cream of the crop. Worth EVERY penny for you to upgrade your collection.
