Free Music Notes for BonfireFree Music Review: Bonfire Hit: 5 Stars
I would recommend this boxset to anyone who is a fan of AC/DC, even someone who has all of their albums. This boxset has 5 CDs in it, Live at Atlantic Studios, Volts, Let There Be Rock: Live in Paris Parts 1 and 2, and Back in Black. All of the CDs other Back in Black has live or earlier versions of songs released on another CD.
Live at Atlantic Studios and Let There Be Rock: Live in Paris Parts 1 and 2 are live albums with Bon Scott, like the If You Want Blood (You've Got It) album.
Volts has live songs of Sin City, She's Got Balls, It's A Long Way to the Top, and Ride On. It also has earlier versions of the songs Get It Hot, Touch to Much, and If You Want Blood You've Got It. Back Seat Confidential is also an earlier version of Beating Around The Bush from the Highway to Hell album. It has pretty much the same guitar part. Dirty Eyes, as far as I know, isn't an earlier version of another song. School Days, I believe, is the AC/DC version of the song with the same name by Chuck Berry (though Chuck Berry's is also called Hail Hail Rock n' Roll).
Finally, there is Back in Black. Even though any real fan, which would probably be the only people buying this, probably already has Back in Black, I think it still worth the money. Back in Black has to be my favorite album by AC/DC, thus I do not mind having an extra copy of it. Plus, the other live and new songs are worth having an extra Back in Black around, and if you really don't want the Back in Black you can sell it at a rummage sale or on ebay.
I would recommend this to any fan of AC/DC, but I would probably suggest getting a different album if you have just started listening to AC/DC. If you have just started listening to AC/DC, I would recommend buying an album like Highway to Hell or even Back in Black though it is in this set, because I am sure once you have become a fan you will not mind having 2 or even more copies of Back in Black.
This is a great tribute to Bon Scott, AC/DC's original singer, who died back on February 20, 1980.
Rock on, AC/DC, and may Bon Scott's soul continue to live on in your rock, continuing to inspire you and future generations of rockers to come!
Free Music Review: A great set but missing some important 5 Stars
While I agree with the other reviews on this set (it IS great because it's from the Bon Scott era), there are some mandatory tracks missing.
Cold Hearted Man, Fling Thing, Carry Me Home, Crabsody In Blue, Love Song, Stick Around, and Rock In Peace should have DEFINITELY been included here.
The "Let There Be Rock" Soundtrack has been cleaned up and sounds great but I think it's time to re-release this as a DVD with the extras.
Also not included here are the 1976 shows from Australia which includes a killer live version of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (a track which has rarely surfaced from the Bon Scott days). DDDDC was not released in the US until after the success of Back In Black so that might account for why, although it's now a classic rock staple, that track was rarely played live in the US with Bon.
This box set is worth owning.........just be aware there is so much more from the Bon Scott era that has yet to be released.
What about the 25 or so tracks they recorded for the BBC back in the 70s? That would have made a wonderful extra on this box and cut down on the low quality bootlegs in circulation.
Free Music Review: Good-bye Bon Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, for you idiots all wondering why Back in Black is included in this box set, it's because Back in Black was the tribute album to Bon. AC/DC originally produced it as their last album.
Now, the 3 other unreleased albums of this box set are awesome. "Volts" is some great tracks of them bouncing around ideas, and some of their songs at their best. "Live at Atlantic" Studios is a very well done live album. It has a very different sound than any of their other live albums. "Live at Paris" is definately the best song line up from the Bon years. It was recorded right after "Highway to Hell", so it has some good tracks from that album. Though it only has one song from Powerage, and, it's just me, but I think a live "It's a Long Way to the Top" would have done justice. I also liked the AC/DC pick, tattoo, sticker, poster, and book were cool novelties. This is a definate must for any real AC/DC fan, not for a light fan. If you're just getting into AC/DC, I suggest you buy "Back In Black", "Highway to Hell", "If You Want Blood", and "The Razor's Edge". AC/DC ROCKS.
Free Music Review: WHY IS BACK IN BLACK INVOLVED? Hit: 5 Stars
What a bunch of jerks! (I can say this, they know its true)
AC/DC has been ripping us off for years! (they know, they don't care.)
They will never let us have the coveted "lost AC/DC tracks" on a U.S release. This whole box set has one lost track (SCHOOL DAYS) on the disc of rare stuff.
DONT GET ME WRONG the box is BAD ASS completley. A ton of BON on here that I've never heard (Live stuff all over it, the NASTIEST!)
I just don't understand why BACK IN BLACK is involved. Anybody who wants this box most likely already has this CD, no? It's not even BON!
I don't know, I'm just confused i guess.
I swear the boys are just F'in with us, like they do EVERYTIME!
THOSE JERKS......... 5 STARS!
P.S I'll drink one to you BON, my dear friend who died before I was born.
Free Music Review: Excellent Boxed Set Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a huge AC/DC fan and Bon is possibly my favorite singer of all time and getting to see some live and unreleased tracks from his early and golden days was a real treat to me. 3 live discs and one with unreleased tracks is well worth the money but I can't see why Back in Black was put on this set. Any person who would spend $50 - $70 on a AC/DC set without a doubt has Back in Black. Bon's a singer who died far too early and it was a shame that he had to pass but I'm sure he would be happy with the boxed set that really is the ultimate tribute to celebrate his legacy. A great buy for any AC/DC fan even with Babk in Black in it.
