Free Music Notes for BonfireFree Music Review: A MUST for any Bon Scott fan Hit: 4 Stars
Wow, this is an excellent tribute to Bon Scott! I purchased this for my boyfriend for Christmas, he is a huge AC/DC fan of the Bon Scott era. This set has songs on that are difficult to find elsewhere as well as commentary from the band. All I have to say is Bon, wherever you are man, your Bonfire idea is a hit with us! Long live AC/DC!!

the product arrived very quickly! one of the cd's little beat scratched
but as long as the cd doesn't jump it doesn't bother me. basicly it was
good deal! but seller should write 'very good or good condition' and not
like new..
Free Music Review: Subpar box set Hit: 3 Stars
In the mid-late 90's with the advent of collectors the new wave of music fans who began catagorizing genres, going after rare albums and became highly interested in 'completed works' of bands, we saw the box set become a popular medium for a number of bands. AC/DC's Bonfire isn't a complete collection of their works but rather a collection of unreleased Bon Scott era material which fans had been clamoring for, for quite a while. While Malcolm Young has maintained there just isnt that much there, everything they recorded they used, some fans were dissappointed. Bonfire is pretty good, but coulda been alot better. It mainly served, in its time as another expensive hardcore fan item but now you can pick it up for 20-30 bucks. Live in Atlantic Studios is a pretty good show, recorded around late 77 I'd say for a small club size audiance it captures the band in their prime, and of course the CD named Volts, has some odds and ends alternative/demo kinda stuff [see tracklisting].
The main reason to get Bonfire, or maybe 12 years later, you can probably just buy it on eBay seperatly, is the Let There Be Rock concert, filmed in Paris Dec 1979, which as most fans know has been on VHS for years ans is a HEAVY favorite among them. The show is a gem, as a AC/DC fan IMO its better than If You Want Blood, Live and any other live album/DVD, they've put out. The sound is raw, the kinetic energy is there, the band was top shelf and this concert is probably my favorite AC/DC album ever. Fans are still demanding for a DVD release but Malcolm and Angus have stated the master tapes have gone missing and a stereo mix of the show is the version heard here. As opposed to the VHS, the full version of Walk All Over You is here along with TNT which was cut from the movie for time restraints most likely but the sound of the CD is great, absolutely nothing to complain about. It was a great prize for fans to get it on CD. But by now if you really want that item you can more than likely find it by itself. Supposedly a DVD is planned for 2011 of the concert.
On the other hand what woulda made the box perfect, its ridiculous not to ask why the tracks off the original aussie albums weren't featured here. (Stick Around, RIP Rock In Peace, Love Song, Fling Thing, Crapsody In Blue, Cold Hearted Man and of course the alterate versions of High Voltage, Aint No Fun, Rocker etc). Course all this stuff is now finally avaliable on the Backtracks box set but still, it really woulda been a complete and complimentary tribute to the legendary frontman to include these lost gems here, or just, reissue the original albums High Voltage, TNT, and Dirty Deeds in the US/UK. Anyway, if there's any fans still interested in checking this out that dont have it yet, quite a few years after its release there isnt much here you cant get other places (the Sin City performance from the Midnight Sepcial '78 is on the DVD Family Jewels). To say you have everything by the band, get it, but most importantly get the Let There Be Rock show.
Free Music Review: There is not enough on this! Hit: 3 Stars
This trubute to there great singer who passed away in 1980 Bon Scott was a bit of a disapointment in one area!It is a box set containing 4 albums! LET THERE BE ROCK (live) - Is a great live show from 1979 in Paris. Which is the famous video every AC/DC fan should have a copy of on VHS and is asking for it to be put to DVD now! Thats not the downfall, that is a great album! ATLANTIC STUDIOS - This is a great small radio show they did in New York just after the release of Powerage, however the downfall is, there was two of these shows!....where's the other one? There was another Live at the atlantic studios recorded the next year or so? so where is that show??? for the 30 minutes this show ran, they couldve easly fit that other show onto the same disc here! Back In Black - I know this is the tribute album they first made FOR Bon Scott... but what person doesnt already have this album???? Particuly seeing as how it would be AC/DC fans buying this box set, im sure theres not an AC/DC fan anywhere who doesent already have the album! let alone non AC/DC fans will probably have this album already in there collection somewhere! Why was this included????? Voltz - AC/DC said they tryd to find as much rare Bon material as possible....well, they didnt seem to look very hard! Not to mention that "School Days" may not have been released world wide, but has been available on the Australian TNT album since it came out in 1975! When they released this box set in Australia, they should have swapped "school days" for "love at first feel" which was not released in Australia! There are so many songs missing! and not just live performances! - Carry Me Home - for some reason has not been released on an offical album, it came out as a single, and is probably one of there greatest ever drinking songs that i'm sure had to be one of Bons favorites...why was it not included? - Cold Hearted Man - was released on POWERAGE only on certin rarer finds of an Australian Box Set of records of Bon and some parts of Europe on Powerage, but none the less, still should have been on this album instead of "long way to the top" which im sure every ac/dc fan would also have! Plus some songs have not been released outside of Australia! - Love Song - Stick Around - Rock In Peace (R.I.P) - Crabsody In Blue So why did we end up with another copy of Back in black? and a few songs already available that everyone would already have had anyway???? where are those extra songs that arnt there? but can be downloaded easilly? Are we gonnah see a BonFire 2? or an Unreleased tracks album? because theres ten times as many unreleased Brian songs too! Atlantic Studios i give 5 stars Let there be rock I give 5 stars Back In Black is a 5 star album, but gets no stars for beeing in this box set and volts looses stars for not beeing complete with the stuff we really wanted... 5 stars for the great un heard material! but loosing 2 stars for including songs we all have, and for not including more!
Free Music Review: B minus Bon Box Set Hit: 3 Stars
I was originally excited when I heard this Box set was coming out but put off the purchase for a while when I heard unflattering reviews. I found it for a nice price thru an Amazon seller so I went ahead and finally picked it up. I would have to say that I am a little disappointed at the overall package and the lukewarm review I read years ago was spot on the money.
The Paris concert is good but really needed a reengineering job and a probably a remix to give it sound quality more like If You Want Blood...or a well produced live concert album. There are times when it sounds more like an unmixed bootleg than something that has an Atlantic Records sticker on it. It would have been nice to have a collection of live tracks that were just from Highway to Hell or that didn't appear on other previously released live albums.
Live From The Atlantic studios is a little anti-climatic as there is not much of an audience or the great sounds from a big live crowd which, to me, makes a live album... well, a live album.
I also really didn't get the point of Back in Black included as the 5th disc?? If it were a unique copy of BIB with Bon singing some of the songs or something other than the stock studio copy, it would have made more sense to include. I would bet everyone who buys this set already has a copy of BIB and does not need another. It is a waste of a disc or a potential slot in the set for something that could have been a more unique or unreleased offering. I guess from the perspective of the band Back in Black had a tribute element to it but Bon is not even on it and I thought that was the point of the set?
The book included is nice and has some great shots of the original line-up and brought up memories of old copies of Creem and Circus rock magazines.
If you must have it, find it for a good price.
