Free Music Review: "If You're Lookin' for Trouble, I'm the Man to See."
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the American debut of AC/DC, and from the moment this record was released, rock and roll as we knew it would forever change. The last line of that sentence may sound a bit corny, but anyone who's familiar with the AC/DC story knows it's also true. However, "High Voltage" wasn't initially greeted with love in America. As the liner notes state, it got a scathing review in "Rolling Stone" in 1976, when Billy Altman dismissed the record as an exercise in "calculated stupidity." Well, not only has this record gone multiplatinum, but it also helped secure the band an esteemed place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not bad for "stupidity," huh? Anyway, "High Voltage" is really a compilation of the group's first two Australian albums and it's one of the essential AC/DC recordings of the Bon Scott era. The essence of "High Voltage" and AC/DC is pretty much summed up in the infectious "Rock and Roll Singer," which is nothing more than a carefree tribute to having a good time and dodging responsibility. Other highlights are "TNT" the bluesy drive of "The Jack," and the excellent "Live Wire." The production has a somewhat raw and bluesy feel; it sounds like the band recorded the album right in your own living room. "High Voltage" has been remastered by Sony, and the booklet has interesting liner notes and great photos of the band. Along with "Powerage" and "Highway to Hell," "High Voltage" is one of my favorite pre-"Back in Black" AC/DC albums and should be one of your first purchases, even if you already have the original pressings of the LP, cassette or CD.

Free Music Review: Wrong Name for this record
Hit: 5 Stars

This record's original title was NOT High Voltage. It's title was TNT. Somewhere somebody decided to change it. High Voltage had a red cover with a dog urinated up against a transformer behind a barbed wire fence and contained that classic, drunken sing along song: 'Big Balls'. I think High Voltage has been renamed Jailbreak '74 (they took Jailbreak off Dirty Deeds, where it was the last song. and put it on High Voltage and renamed High Voltage). It's not good to tamper with these thing!

Personally I would consider one of AC/DC's best albums- the stand out tune is 'Long way to the shop (if you wanna sausage roll)' (as it is known to old school australian AC/DC fans). Even the old school video of them driving down some street in Melbourne(?) on an old Bedford flatbed rocking out to this song (including bagpipe players in full highland gear) is supreme. TNT and High Voltage are also fantastic tracks. Other highlghts include Rocker and The Jack. Seriously good fun!

TNT was traditionally, so it seemed in Australia to me, the second AC/DC record new fans bought after Back In Back as it highlighted AC/DC in a very accessible way through their powerful, tight and catchy riffs. It's hard to find a tune on this record that isn't good. Probably school days is the worst. If I not mistaken, it also contains a re-recording of AC/DC's first recorded song with original singer George Evans (who I met backstage one Saturday night in '89- needless to say he didn't seem to like Angus much): Can I sit next to you girl.

SO buy it, crank it up, raise your first and shout 'oi' and appreciate music that sounds as good now as it did back in 1975. Maybe even better...

Free Music Review: May Altman forever burn in hell...
Hit: 5 Stars

The 1976 Rolling Stone writer who summed this album and AC/DC up as "calculated stupidity" was definitely in the wrong side of the univiverse when he reviewed this album, and he will forever burn in the annals of Rock n' Roll history. AC/DC instead went on to define Rock in the biggest way possible--as I remember, even the 80's punks, who revolted against most commercial heavy metal, including Led Zeppelin, still liked AC/DC, or at least some of their songs. Looking back on that era, I remember hardcore fans of The Smiths even getting off to AC/DC at selected moments!
Today, the influence of the group is unquestionable, and I think all the recognition, critical and otherwise, is warranted.
"High Voltage," in short, is one of those albums that, as you grow up, and if you are in a place in your life in those tender years to be touched by music, that you kind of live by. I never questioned its greatness too much, and still don't. These days, you'd call it "classic," in every respect--the look, the sounds, the approach, the attitude, the virtuosity, etc. This is the first chapter in the "Testament" of AC/DC. There is no bad song on this album. Where Back in Black was a triumph of and over the shadows of life and death--and is almost a spiritual experience in that regard--High Voltage is like clear, springtime jubilation. Ultimately, "Jubilant" is the one word that I use to describe this album. This is the glorious birthing of AC/DC, and it will continute to captivate and capture the spirit of all youth hence.

Free Music Review: An awesome AC/DC album
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a REAL good AC/DC album! I like it alot! I am just pretty mad that they didn't release the original High Voltage or TNT in US but, this is the first AMERICAN AC/DC album, and now I will jsut put in what i think of the songs....

1. It's A Long Way to the Top- 10/10 AN awesome song, the bagpipes blow me away!

2. Rock n Roll Singer- 10/10 AWESOME lyrics and guitar.
3. The Jack- 7/10 A good song, but WAAY overplayed. I like the later version from the live albums better than this one. Better lyrics.

4. Live Wire- 8/10 A real good rock song.

5. T.N.T.- 10/10 Probably the msot popular song on the album, and I don't care if some ppl try to act cool by saying they don't like it cuz every1 does, this song kicks ass!

6. Can I Sit Next To You Girl- 9/10 ANother real awesome AC/DC song. Got awesome rythm guitars by Malcolm, and kick ass lead by Angus!

7. Little Lover- 8/10 I like this song alot. I really like the chorus chant of "Little Lover".

8. She's Got Balls- 10/10 I REALLY like this one. Kick ass rthm by Malcolm, good lead by Angus, dirty lyrics by Bon, awesome bass line by Mark, and great drums from Phil! Everything that makes AC/DC the awesome and dirty band they are!

Free Music Review: High Voltage Rock 'N' Roll.
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me start by saying this album is an AC/DC masterpiece. Definitely one of the best by them. Me being an AC/DC fanatic, I love this album. I will rate each song on a scale of 1 to 10.

1. It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)- This songs is catchy and a good all-around song. The only thing I don't really like is the repetitive bagpipes. 8/10

2. Rock 'N' Roll Singer- This song is pretty good, a good rocker, but gets a little repetitive. 7/10

3. The Jack- Definitely a great song. Angus does a terrific job of keeping the bluesy feel throughout it. 9/10

4. Live Wire- Kind of like "Rock 'N' Roll Singer", catchy, but a little repetitive. I like the bass riff in the beginning though. 7/10

5. T.N.T.- Terrific song, thats adored by AC/DC fans everywhere. A definite classic. 9/10

6. Can I Sit Next To You Girl- One of my personal favorites, because of the upbeat riff in the beginning. Awesome. 10/10

7. Little Lover- Pretty good song, I love the beginning, but the chorus is so-so. 9/10

8. She's Got Balls- Okay song, same vein as "Little Lover", but not as good. The only song I don't really care for on this album. 6/10

9. High Voltage- Obviously a great song, and a great way to end a great album. 9/10

So if you are a AC/DC fan, or if you only like a select few of their songs, you should buy this album. For only $10, it could change your whole view of rock 'n' roll.
