Free Music Notes for Powerage (Dlx)Free Music Review: AC/DC Upstages Van Halen and Aerosmith! Hit: 5 Stars
At the 'Summer Jam' in '78, AC/DC was booked as the supporting act under headliners Aerosmith and Van Halen. AC/DC upstaged them both and proved themselves a force to be reckoned with! This CD is considered by many to be their " most accomplished in studio performance". It's not 'Highway to Hell', but it's damn close. Produced by George Young (older brother to Ang and Mal)and Harry Vanda, they once again get the best from the band in all their fury. This album also marks the debut of Cliff Williams on Bass. (What did happen to Mark Evans, anyway?) As Bon Scott himself once said, "There's been an audience waiting for an honest rock n roll band to come along and lay it on 'em".
From the opening track (Now a classic) 'Rock N Roll Damnation' to the awesome 'Sin City' to 'Riff Raff' this CD rocks and rocks very hard. It's also blusey and full of bite. The deluxe remastered version is amazing, with never before seen color photos from the tour. Alot of the tracks on this one are heard again on 'If you want Blood (you got it) except they are LIVE!
A milestone for the fans and the band, 'Powerage' is a true legendary album.
Free Music Review: Correction! Hit: 5 Stars
After watching my AC/DC "Live At Donington" dvd,I discovered a mistake in the spelling and the pronunciation of the album "Powerage".I went to the "Backstage Pass" section, then the "Discs" section. In the Discs section, Malcolm and Angus give a short, audio commentary about every AC/DC album, up to the "Bonfire" box set. When they talk about the "Powerage" album, they pronounce it Power Age,two seperate words! They also refer to the Stone Age and the Iron Age(they even give a Flintstones cartoon reference). We`ve been mispronouncing the album title for 30 years because of a spelling error! As far as the album itself,I agree with a lot of people, that it`s a great, very underrated album. In my opinion it has "The Definitive" AC/DC sound,my favorite.I disagree with Andrew Mueller`s review that it has no signature song`s.What! Rock & Roll Damnation,Down Payment Blues,Gimme a Bullet,Sin City,Riff Raff,Kicked in the Teeth, etc.,pick one they`re all great!I think Power Age was forgotten by some people because "If You Want Blood" came out the same year and was so good also, many fans had waited for a "Live" album from them.
Free Music Review: My Favorite AC/DC Album Hit: 5 Stars
AC/DC is one of the bands I loved 20 years ago, and still do at present. They wrote and recorded a lot of great rock and roll music. I definitely prefer AC/DC's music recorded with the original singer Bon Scott, over the stuff recorded with his replacement Brian Johnson. Back in Black is a killer album, but Powerage is much better IMHO. I like almost every song, but I think the best songs on this album are the following (in no particular order):
Rock N Roll Damnation
Down Payment Blues
Gimme A Bullet
Sin City
Whats Next To The Moon
Gone Shootin'
Sometimes when I get home from a night of beer drinkin' and skirt chasin', I will put this CD in, crank up the volume, turn out the lights, lay down on the sofa, and just enjoy the sweet blues laced hard rock sounds. Bon Scott's voice mixed with Angus Young's guitar and the underrated rhythm guitar of Malcolm Young just does it for me and always has. AC/DC is maybe my favorite band of all time, and that's saying something.
Free Music Review: Excellent album with great new packaging Hit: 5 Stars
All of these remastered reissues are GREAT! I walked into Best Buy and bought all at once (well, except for Let There Be Rock which I needed to special order) and that $70 happily flew out of my hands. The books that come with each CD are well worth the money themselves. Unlike some booklets like these, they aren't padded with "I love this band", "this album is great" and "this and every other song is amazing historic and will change your life."
Some background about the album, the time period in the band's history, and other behind the scenes info make up most of it including information about the tours and other trivia. Good, meaty stuff.
Powerage in particular is a delight. A far too often overlooked album that many don't even know exists is more consistent that some of of the more popular albums. It has a slightly different sound than the other albums - almost progressive! You won't find radio-friendly hits but this album pulls you in and never lets you go.
Free Music Review: Possibly the best AC/DC album ever recorded. Hit: 5 Stars
I dont understand how the official reviewer could say that this album is "average".To me all the songs are great and even though nothing here could really work as a single thats part of its appeal. There are songs on here are longer and better than most of the ones on High Voltage and Highway To Hell.Dont get me wrong I like those 2 albums a lot but to me this is the best AC/DC album of the Bon Scott era.Simply put the songs on here all rock and rock hard.Rock N Roll Damnation is one of the best hard rock songs ever recorded,Down Payment Blues and Gimme A Bullet have some of Bon's finest vocals,Riff Raff,Gone Shootin(which has some of the best rythm guitar on any AC/DC album) and Sin City are the 2 best songs on the album.Whats Next To The Moon,Up To My Neck In You and Kicked In The Teeth are all about attitude to the nth dedree. Overall this album is a masterpiece and even better than the classic Highway To Hell.
