After a 3 year hiatus from the scene, AFI returns!!! To many of the fans out there that were unaware of AFI prior to 2003's "Sing The Sarrow", this album is slightly reminsient of older tracks like some of those from the album "The Art of Drowning", however the melodic tunes expressed on this record is much more grown up and enjoyable. I have loved AFI since 1996 and their first shows back when they were playing with Rancid. NOW...many of the "hardcore" fans think that "DecemberUnderground" is too slow...or whatever..However I think that this just an excellent band with excellent song-writers expressing a differnt outlook, & a different range of emotions. You know that if every band constantly put records that sounded the same all the time...we listeners would become bored really quick!!
As for my opinions of the record:
I absolutly love, love, love #10-The Killing Lights & the lyrics, "am i beatiful / am i usuable" really stuck with me. & it has to be my favorite song on the record!!!
I also have to say that #11-37MM is perhaps the most melodic song and the best produced. As for the current single #3-Miss Murder I think that it is a wonderful move towards the older side of AFI circa 1997 and so is #2-Kill Caustic which is the bands next offical single...I cant wait to see what this video will be like!!
The only negative thing I have to say is its a shame that we had to wait so long for this record...but i guess good things come to those who wait!
As for buying this record...I pre-ordered this one and I am now going to purchase the UK IMPORT, b/c theres a great cover of the NIN's hit "head like a hole" which i worth owning for all of you that watched the MTV ICON...its an awsome track!! Totally worth buying!!
