Free Music Notes for DecemberundergroundFree Music Review: Bought on a whim.... Hit: 5 Stars..because I liked the song "rabbits are roadkill" I believe.
Anyway, upon first listen the word "[...]" came to mind. Fast Forward 2 weeks and it's the only CD I've been listening to. It has a bit of everything, I can't imagine if you picked up this CD for any reason, you wouldn't LOVE at least 2 songs and listen to them over and over and over and over.
Free Music Review: Not as good as "Sing the Sorrow", but what is? Hit: 3 Stars This album is a little different from STS but still has enough of the riffs, vocals, and attitude that it's entertaining. My biggest complaint with December is that it's so short. No hidden track? What's the deal AFI? Seems like it's over about the time I'm really getting into it. There are couple of hard rockers, Kill Caustic for example, but it's a little mellower (is that a word?) than what I would prefer. AFI is still the best band out there, despite what I consider a little bit of a letdown from Sing the Sorrow.
Free Music Review: its made me start listening to AFI Hit: 5 StarsI just started to listen to rock music and it started with classic rock and eventually to modern stuff. my ex told me I needed to listen to the new AFI CD and I just fell in love with the bands music. later I bought the Art of drowning and a few of there older CD's and I noticed that they have changed there sound a lil but still have some of the old soal thats in there classics. so I believe its a great CD and if it helps anyone I think they should get it too.
Free Music Review: All due respect... but the flame's died down . Hit: 2 StarsI got into AFI with the release of Art of Drowning, which is a fantastic album. My girlfriend at the time had Black Sails in the Sunset and even though I didn't really get into it then, I now think it rivals AOD. AFI has always been a band to look towards the future and embrace a sense of progress (this is highly commendable). These two albums, which formed my introduction to AFI, now stand as the mid-part of their career.
The band has always refused to simply fall into the groove of what's cool. They've always been unique. Their first two albums came out of their intense interest in the 80's and early 90's hardcore punk scene. Davey Havoc may have summarized the roots of the albums best when he says, "Ever since I can remember I wanted to be in a hardcore band," at the beginning of the "He Who Laughs Last" video. These albums are full of the intensity of the early hardcore scene. When the band emerged into this middle era the music was totally fresh and delightfully dark (it was there in the early days, though, in songs like Brownie Bottom Sundae). These middle albums (haloween ep and self-titled included) also had an intensity and an energy that blew away their old sound. Moreover, I've yet to hear a band in the world of punk (past and present) who's music rivals this intensity.
I appreciate the two newer albums on an artistic level; they continue to break the mold (the goth glam influence is pretty cool). Besides, who can say they didn't see them foreshadowed in certain moments on Black Sails and AOD. But, personally, it's pretty difficult to listen to Decemberunderground. AFI deserves all the respect in the world but I don't feel much of the fire of the old days.
Free Music Review: Decemberunderground Hit: 5 StarsI have listened to this CD over and over and over. AFI is one of the best bands around today. I would stronly recommend this CD and would urge anyone who enjoys this CD to check out their past CD's. Every song is unique in its own way and I don't think you can put a lable on the type of music, its extreamly unique, the lyrics are intriguing. Davey Havok's vochals are also amazing.
