Free Music Notes for The Art Of DrowningFree Music Review: Screw MTV; This is How You Really Get Punk'D! Hit: 5 Stars
After hearing "Girl's Not Grey" on the radio over and over again way back in early 2003, I began to develop a liking in it and purchased AFI's newest masterpiece "Sing the Sorrow". Before that time, I had never heard of the band before and was thrilled to find out they had quite a large discography when looking further into them. This is their third album I bought (The "All Hallow's E.P. being my second). This is much like new AFI and much unlike AFI, if that makes any sense. All of the songs here are fast, furious punk rock attacks, with hardly any melodic parts (there are some here and there, however) and each part is nailed by each musician. There's not very much goth influence in the music like there is in the new album either. But what I find most enjoyable about the band is to read the lyrics. They're like poems. They're beautiful, bizarre, haunging, enchanting, etc. However, a close rival to the lyrics as this band's highlight is the bassist, Hunter. Amazing. He has to be one of the best. Very tricky lines and patterns throughout the entire album and he nails them. But each member is incredibly talented. Davey Havok, the man who writes the lyrics, also sings, and he can sing good, too. He also has a good scream when needed. The drummer and guitarist are both very talented, as well. As I said before, each member is amazing. This album shows a great display of musicianship and talent. If you are looking for one damn good punk album, this is your best bet. If you like hard music, you'll love it. If you like fast music, you'll love it. Hell, if you like good music...
Free Music Review: Great CD Hit: 5 Stars
I'd say this CD probably is AFI's best. Of course for every person there's an AFI cd, changing their ways and style of music many times. Sing the sorrow is good, despite the change, but I feel that the music and the vocals provided by Davey Havok accel beyong any of their other cd's. I would say if you want a harder sound, but still with harmonies and melodies, you've come to the right place. 1 I think isn't their best intro. 2 has a nice, quicker speed. 3 is a gem amongst others, with a great chorus. 4 is pretty good, but I felt it kind of staggered with the awkward, dark verse. 5 is a short, quick rush. The bridge is very good. 6 is a great song, with a very-Offspring-ish sounding chorus. 7 is quite possible the worst song on the cd. no harmony whatsoever. 8 is a bit slower, but an overall DECENT song. The bridge is a bit shaky, however. 9 is quite possible one of the greatest AFI songs ever. If you don't know this song, why are you even reading this review? 10 is kind of monotonous, reminiscent of #7. 11 is a great song, terriffic verse to name. 12 is slow. Not too great towards the beginning, but as it gets further one it accels and becomes excellent. Great chorus. 13 is my favorite song on the cd. The verse and the chorus singing are incredible, and should be noted on this song. 14 seems like it opens with the same chord as the first song on the cd, but is far different. Almost seems like a lullaby, but still good. Hidden Song: Not too great, I was expecting better. A bit harderOverall it is a great CD, and i recommend it to most anyone.
Free Music Review: AFI's best CD Hit: 5 Stars
OK, this is the best AFI CD ever! You must buy it! "Initiation" Very good intro-10/10 "The Lost Souls" this flows in well with the intro, the a very energetic song (as is an energetic CD)- 10/10 "The Nephilim" This is one of the best songs lyrically- 10/10 "Ever And a Day" I like how this song starts out fast, then slows down once Davey starts singing, then gets faster. It's great-10/10 "Sacrifice Theory" This is a very energetic, fast, short song. It rocks1-10/10"Of Greetings and Goodbyes" I really like the beat and lyrics in this song-10/10 "Smile" Another short song, one of the best short songs I've ever heard-10/10 "A Story At Three" I really like the chorus, this song is fantastic-10/10 "Days of the Phoenix" This is the song that made me buy this CD. This was the radio single, but I don't remember hearing it much. Still a great song-10/10 "Catch a Hot One" It takes a little while to understand what is being said at first, but it's good-10/10 "Wester"- This song is so wonderful, I think it's somewhat beautiful-10/10 "6 to 8" This is a slow song, but a very good slow song that can make me cry-10/10 "The Despiar Factor" If I had to pick a favorite song off this album (that would be hard), it would be this song. "My whole life is a dark room. One big dark room" I love that part!-10/10 "Morningstar" This is another slow song, but it's beautiful-10/10 This CD has got the most awesome lyrics and the booklet has got wonderful artwork. This album is worth so much!
Free Music Review: What can i say? Hit: 5 Stars
AFI is a great punk band with great lyrics and guitar playing to die for. These guys know how to rock. I decided to write a short review for each song so you guys can see what's good and well, what isn't. This has helped me in the past on buying stuff so this is mainly why i decided to start reviewing.Intro- Great. Breaks right into lost souls Lost Souls- Catchy. Great lyrics and Jade is awsome on guitar The Nephilim- (Whatever that means). Starts off with great bass and awsome lyrics. Ever and a Day- Okay. sort of slow. B- Sacrifice Theory-Energetic, the kind of song that gets you pumped Of Greetings...-uhhh? Alright Smile- Starts off weird and is very fast. Can't really understand what their saying. A Story at Three-uhhh? Okay i guess. catchy chorus Days of The Phoenix- The best of all on a scale of 1-10, a 15! it is mind blowing with great lyrics and tune. Catch a Hot One-Fast and furious, classic AFI Wester-One of my favorites. I play this one nonstop. My parents often yell to turn it off i play it that much. 6 to 8-To slow for me Despair Factor-Exactly what the title says it is Morningstar-Sounds like a luluby. (That's pretty bad for a punk band.) **10 minutes into Morningstar there is a hidden track!!! BUY IT!!! IT IS WELL WORTH IT. ALSO RECOMENDED IS ALL HALLOWS AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH... The best songs are Days of the Phoenix, then Lost Souls, then Wester. Well, that's the top 3 for ya. THANKS FOR READING
