Free Music Notes for The Art Of DrowningFree Music Review: This is the truth... Hit: 5 Stars
I would have to say that this is probably the best AFI cd to date, with Black Sails in the Sunset being an extremely close second. With Black Sails, AFI's sound was cleaned up and refined to the point of a really tight rhythm and more controlled vocals (the screaming sounds more aesthetic along with backup vocals with Dexter Holland of the Offspring). The only thing was that the last two songs sounded similar on some of the vocals and it got kind of tiring around the 9th track because of the lack of variety in tempos. With that said, The Art of Drowning works on that. There are a few slower, yet grinding songs in here and some new ground broken for AFI (Ever and a Day, 6 to 8, and Morningstar). But you also will get the refined sound of hardcore punk in here too (Smile, Catch a Hot One, and the hidden track especially). Suffice to say there is at least a little something here for AFI fans, punk fans, hardcore fans, and people looking for something new to try.
Free Music Review: AFI Does it again Hit: 5 Stars
A.F.I is one of the greatest punk bands out there now. They are definitely different than the happy-sounding pop punk of MXPX and Blink-182. Davey Havok, the lead singer, is hard to understand, but when you open the lyric sheets of any of the albums, he writes some pretty incredible lyrics. Whenever I listen to this album, I listen to it all the way through because it's so rad. Davey Havok's vocals are great, and the rest of the band's back-ups (Adam Carson - drums, Jade Puget (guitar), and Hunter (bass) ) add to it. Two of the greatest tracks on this are "The Lost Souls" and "Ever and a Day", if you have never heard any of A.F.I's albums, you should go out and buy Black Sails The Sunset, because there are some of the rawest punk tracks on that record, and the bass line in "At A Glance" is amazing. A.F.I is on tour with Rancid now, I've never seen them live, but I'm definitely going to, because I've heard it's an experience.
Free Music Review: *bawls bc she can't find her AoD CD* Hit: 5 Stars
Wonderful, wonderful. *beams* Beautiful album, I loved it. This is what first got me hooked on AFI. My cousin brought her CD to a family gathering... we spent most of the night trying to figure out the lyrics and getting them wrong. Not to be disrespectful or anything. I was so addicted from the start I begged to borrow it so I could burn it for myself and return to my cousin her own wonderful, wonderful music. Wow. I loved this. I mean love, as in present tense. ^^; My favorite songs have to be Despair Factor, morningstar, Sacrifice Theory, 6 to 8, and Days of Phoenix (wow, that's a weird word to spell!) Truley wonderful lyrics, wonderful music. Nothing you can really get up and boogie to (cept I have five left feet and can't boogie too well)... maybe that's just me. Well, check it out. You'll love it too. () Beyond and to all time I stand, deFamine (enter key not working, wonder what I did to it...)
Free Music Review: Music that you will never get sick of Hit: 5 Stars
My friend let me borrow a copy of this cd for a couple of months because I heard about AFI in January and was interested in their single 'Days of the Phoenix'. After listening to this album the first time I wasnt sure what to think. I was expect a lot more pop. It's not that easy to decipher all of davey's lyrics just by listening to the songs. Upon reading the lyrics and reading some people's interpretations online, the songs had a lot more impact and meaning for me. Davey's lyrics are powerful and for some songs the topics they can cover is pretty pervasive. The guitar, bass, and drums should not be overlooked either. Each of the band members contributes something great to the whole. I listened to this cd for nearly 2 months on an every other day basis, and i am still not sick of it. I gave my friend back their copy of the cd just so i could go out and buy one of my own. thats how good this cd is.
Free Music Review: True Punk . . . Hit: 5 Stars
I am so ... sick and tired of people thinking that they are SO punk because they listen to [stuff] like Blink 182, Sum 41, you know... But I guarentee you, if one of those kids popped any A Fire Inside C.D. into their stereos, they would get a surprise. A.F.I. has been one the most innovative punk bands ever, and still is, and this proves it even more. Tracks like "Smile" (the best on the album), "6 to 8", and "The Days of the Phoenix" are truely insane punk songs that will live on forever. "Morningstar" is slow, soft and disturbing. I relfects a lot on what the whole C.D. is really about. "Initiation" is a really har and cool, but to my dismay, it is just a simple 30 second intro. I really wish that they would extend that song and put some vocals on it. Now that would be sweet. A punk/goth/death/metal hybrid that will keep you on your feet for years to come. A must have for punks and goths alike...-MC
