I was very upset to find out after buying the CD that the very first song isn't even the whole song--just a couple of lines. I basically bought this CD for that song!!! Aaron has impressed me with the depth of meaning in his lyrics, which pair up beautifully with truly enjoyable music. I put him in the same category of Christian music for depth and meaning as Steven Curtis Chapman and Steve Green. I'm so proud of him for using his talent for God's glory, and it's especially neat to see as he graduated a few years behind me from the same small Christian college. You really will enjoy this if you want something more than superficial catchiness to your worship experience. Proving all of this is multiple Dove award nominations and three actual Dove Awards. I recently heard Aaron Shust in concert when he was warming up for Audio Adrenaline and MercyMe. I was very impressed.
Prior to that, I had only heard one of his songs, 'My Savior, My God'. It is a terrific song of praise. After hearing him sing several more of his songs, I decided to buy this album. It is well worth it.
There are several other songs on here that are very good. 'Glory to You' is a very catchy that you might just catch yourself singing well after you are done listening to the album. Other very good songs on this CD include the following: Matchless, Stillness (Speak To Me), and One Day.
Lyrically, this album is definitely about God and the focus is on him. There is not much here about struggles or complaints. It is very praise oriented.
There are two songs on this that seem to have excellent potential, but they are far too short - 'Give Me Words' and 'In Your Name'. I think both of them could be made into really good full length songs and I hope that Aaron considers doing that.
I would definitely recommend this CD. If you haven't heard much of his music, you will be in for a pleasant surprise.
