Free Music Review: the greatest hits of the second greatest band of them all

I had the good fortune of first listening to ABBA when I was growing up in India. I listened to it without being self-conscious or embarassed and found their music to be what it is. Glorious songs with beautiful melodies and great rhythms. Also, till their later period (the "voulez vous, gimme, gimme..." period), they were not a disco group. Yes, they didn't play rock and roll music but their songs weren't disco either. They were quite simply just Pop singers. Even the Beatles(the greatest band of them all) performed songs which did not strictly belong to the rock and roll genre.....its silly to call it disco though.Anyway, I consider myself lucky that I enjoyed ABBA along with enjoying the beatles, Pink Floyd, the stones and all those other groups and was not made to feel guilty.
If you witnessed a whole movie theater going wild over songs that many of them barely understood, you'd understand their appeal. It completely transcends boundaries of language and culture, which is what true art is suppose to do.
So, I'm glad to see many people rediscovering them and seeing them for what they are- absolute masters of the popular music form.

Truly, a collection of ABBA's biggest hits spanning their career. Perfectly named as each one of these songs most likely achieved gold certification in some part of the world. Yet, many of these great songs seem to be lost from American memory. Only a handful were able to break the top 10, but ABBA seemed to be consistantly getting hit after hit. this collection brings them all back to back, and really give you a good look at the band ABBA as a whole. You don't need to be an ABBA fan to buy this, but after you do, there is a good chance you will be an ABBA fan. There really is something for everyone, no matter what you taste in music is, ABBA is the universal language of Pop/Rock. The most commercially succesful band of the 70s, with their most well known hits. But the CD does have a storage problem, as it can't fit all their hits on the CD. You could go with The Definative Collection, which has all their singles, but I would recommend sticking with ABBA Gold, and if you happen to want more, More ABBA Gold is also a great CD, but more for a person with a good memory of ABBA's hits and not just an impulse buy, although it won't dissapoint.Free Music Review: Un álbum imprescindible

Sin duda ABBA es uno de los grupos más importantes de la escena musical internacional, tanto por su éxito (inédito para un artista escandinavo) como por la calidad de sus trabajos. "Gold" es una muestra de ello, recorriendo su carrera que incluye varios números uno alrededor del mundo. Mi canción favorita del disco es "Knowing me, knowing you", con la voz de Frida dominando, es sin duda un clásico. Otras canciones de gran éxito como Dancing Queen, Super Trouper o Mamma mía, demustran que ABBA es un fenómeno musical que sigue vigente a pesar del paso del tiempo. Con un sonido muy particular, sus melodías son fácilmente reconocibles, especialmente en temas como The winner takes it all o Chiquitita, cuya versión castellana fue ampliamente difundida en esta parte del mundo.ABBA Gold, es sin duda un disco imprescindible para aquellos que gusten del buen pop, y se ha convertido a 10 años de su lanzamiento en uno de los discos más vendidos, superando los 20 millones de copias en todo el mundo. Disfrutenlo!!!!!!
Free Music Review: A song to sing!!!

I was in school when I first heard the songs of ABBA. Being a rock n roll junkie there aren't a lot of soft-sounding bands that I like. But the fact is, this album is one of the few that I enjoy from any of the pop groups past or present. Trust me when I say that it would take a lot of hard work for a pop band (let alone a band which began playing before I was born) to convince me that their music is good! Songs like "Dancing Queen", "Fernando" and "Thank you for the Music" instantly puts me in a good mood with their sweet sound harmony. Even if you consider their brand of music as dated, this album is sure to surprise you with some extremely pleasant music. The lyrics are not the best (which is understandable since English was a foreign language for them) but what's appealing is their simplicity and innocent charm. This collection is indeed representative of the best songs of ABBA. If you are back after a long day at work or if you are having a dinner at home with you uncles and aunts, these songs will serve as the perfect backdrop.

ABBA-Gold:Greatest Hits features 19 of the best ABBA hits of the 70's. This CD is really great, because it is very upbeat, and cheerful. If you were of fan of the group when you were a teenager, and you listen to the CD, it is like being taken back to that time. But, if you think about it, this CD is not just for people who lived in that time. I know, because my kids also enjoy listening to ABBA songs. ABBA is a great band with a lot of talent.I find it really great that they wrote all their own songs and they worked together, rising to the top in popularity. It was a really good idea to take the most listened to hits and put them together on one CD, to spread the talent around the world to people. Every song on this CD tells a story, if you really think about it. Sometimes the songs can relate to things that happen in real life everyday, and can help you.
