ABBA-Gold:Greatest Hits features 19 of the best ABBA hits of the 70's. This CD is really great, because it is very upbeat, and cheerful. If you were of fan of the group when you were a teenager, and you listen to the CD, it is like being taken back to that time. But, if you think about it, this CD is not just for people who lived in that time. I know, because my kids also enjoy listening to ABBA songs. ABBA is a great band with a lot of talent.I find it really great that they wrote all their own songs and they worked together, rising to the top in popularity. It was a really good idea to take the most listened to hits and put them together on one CD, to spread the talent around the world to people. Every song on this CD tells a story, if you really think about it. Sometimes the songs can relate to things that happen in real life everyday, and can help you.

Nothing in this life has brought me more joy that ABBA. From the first time I heard Waterloo, they have had my heart like no other group. GOLD is the best essence of ABBA. It has the best of the best sans Summer Night City, which is on the subsequent More Gold. Their only pop rivals in sales during the 70s were The Bee Gees and the enormously huge pop/disco group Boney M.Gold Relative unknowns in the US. Check them out. Not so much Abba sounding, but if you like good melodies and irresistable hooks, great purchase. Another big, but short-lived pop group was CloutClout - 20 Greatest Hits. Sounds like a combination of Heart and Abba. Highly recommended. Another cool group is A La Carte. Awesome pop music. Nineteen of ABBA's best songs are plenty, but you won't tire of them. It is amazing that four Swedes (Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus as writers and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog as the main singers) could take such simple English cliches and turn them into pop music magic. Despite sometimes maddeningly simple lyrics, the song arrangements were unnervingly catchy and the multi-level layered compostions are fascinating. The keyboards and synthesizers were used in some of the more ingenious ways during the seventies to produce that unmistakeable ABBA sound. The energy and nearly anthemic enthusiasm eminating from each song marked them all as instant classics, no matter how jaded or synical the listener. It is doubtlful if you read the song list here that you would not know the melody. The one ironic thing about this groups phenomenal success, is that of over 400 million album sales, they only had one number one hit in the US - "Dancing Queen". But it is one heck of a great song.

ABBA is one of my favourite bands of all time. they rocked the late 70's early 80s... i love the producton of the band and the girls leading the listeners to a journey that they will never forget. this collection is just amazing.
my favourite song by them has to be 'waterloo' I LOVE THIS SONG!!! the first time i ever heard this song was when i watch this movie called MURIAL'S WEDDING then the girls performed this song at the kareoke party. great song to bob your head and tap your feet.
'gimme gimme gimme' is another favourite of mine. this song i relived again thanks to madonna's heavily sampled 2005 hit 'hung up'. sounds like a song that you would hear in a old nintendo game.
's.o.s.', 'voulez vous', 'take a chance on me', 'fernando', 'knowing me, knowing you', 'super trouper' & 'dancing queen' are just classics.
there will be another band like ABBA and their song will be around for ages. i recommend this collection to true music lovers.

I am going to start by saying WoW! I love this cd. Anyways I never heard of this group until my dad brought this cd a few years ago and i am greatful to have a dad that knows his music. I was not around at the time when ABBA was on top of the charts, but there music is so good that it is on top of my charts. If you read some of the reviews I have wrote you would see I listen to all kinds of music like house, trance and rap and a little bit of punk alittle bit, but i don't know what i would call this kind of music, I guess you could call it disco house I don't know but I love it. Well you can't go wrong with this set most tracks still give me the goosebumps. I really don't know what to say but just to buy it you will not be disapointed. I think the everyone will enjoy this especially on a long family trip. So all i can say is buy this set. I ended up taking my dads and he got another one , so don't miss these special hits from the 70's and early 80's that all ages will like. "Thank You For The Music" ABBA!!!
