Free Music Review: Painfully Unoriginal
Hit: 2 Stars

I'm a musician who strives to be fair-minded and generous in my evaluation of other musicians' art. I don't think the aim of art is to be original, and find a lot of value in art that would normally be deemed "unoriginal" or "poppy" or whatever.

That said, Abigail's Ghost is a blatant near-plagiarization of Porcupine Tree. This has been noted by others, but I want to emphasize that this criticism doesn't just lie in the fact that the both have, generally, "the same sound". While that is true, there's something deeper and more shameful going on. That is that there are several AG songs that sound too similar to specific PT songs. "Dead People's Review", for example, has the same song structure, and the parts of the song have the same rhythmic structure as the PT song "Blackest Eyes". "Cerulean Blue" likewise bears an unmistakable resemblance to "The Creator Has a Master Tape".

If it were just that the bands sound similar, I would not have been at all offended. In fact, the very reason I purchased the album in the first place is that someone told me that they sound much like Porcupine Tree. That's true. Certainly there's talent and musical skill here. The problem is that the talents and skills that are most obvious are those that enable them to cheesily adapt PT's music.

Free Music Review: Porcupine Tree Clone?
Hit: 5 Stars

To me, this group sounds a lot like Porcupine Tree - which is definitely not a bad thing! This album is totally excellent! Since adding it to my collection a couple of months ago, it has become one of my favorites.

I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone that likes Porcupine Tree. And, if you haven't heard the music of Porcupine Tree, then check them out too!

Hit: 5 Stars

Many reviews say they are copying Porky Tree....but hey if you were going to "copy" a band ...THIS BE THE ONE! This debut album is superb in every way and after a few listens...you will see that they sound less like Porky Tree and have their own niche in the Progressive/Metal Garden of Delights. I can't wait for the 2nd album to be released. The 2 cd eps (one out of print now) are excellent as well.

Free Music Review: Awesome!!!
Hit: 4 Stars

If you like Porcupine Tree, OSI, Rush, Riverside, Dream Theater or other such musical greats then you will love Abigail's Ghost. What a great debut! AG are true musicians and display their talents well, there are plenty of examples throughout the cd. You will hear a range of musical styles from heavy metal prog to acoustic ballads including phenomenal atmospheric layers. There is a lot going on in each song...

My only wish is that there was a little more clarity of instruments, especially voice and keyboard. In places they seem to be muddled in the extreme background. Some guitar solos were also not well defined.

Overall a great release, definately one of my new favortie bands! I look forward to AG's next release!
