Free Music Notes for Above The Rim: The SoundtrackFree Music Review: One of the best compilation albums with rap/R&B Hit: 4 StarsI still think that this Above the Rim soundtrack was dynamite as it was street. It was a hit all during 1994, having 4 to 5 hits on both the rap and R&B ends. Lady of Rage tore it up on Afro Puffs--how come her solo career didn't happen afterwards. And the H-Town, SWV and Warren G songs were hot. Some songs were left off the CD and placed on the cassette. The CD was 18 songs and 77 minutes, the cassette had 21 songs and was about 85 to 90 minutes long. Either way, the soundtrack covered a wide area of artists and rode on the gangsta themes and trends that dominated that year. The standouts were Snoop Dogg, Dre, the Dogg Pound Gangstas and others. I still like the smooth system-sounding Dogg Pound 4 Life, with its big sound and heavy beats dominating it! A very dynamic and sprawling collection that I'd still buy today if I had to!!!!
Free Music Review: Three Missing Songs Hit: 4 StarsI had just found the CD for the Above the Rim Soundtrack and there were three tracks missing. I wished that I would have read the reviews on this site before I decided to purchase the CD. The three missing songs were great besides, the song "Gonna Give It To Ya!" with Jewell featuring Aaron Hall, "Part Time Lover" with H-Town and others. It's still a great album, but as we all know CD's are the ones with the bonus or hidden tracks not so much of the cassette tapes. I have the cassette tape, but you can barely hear the words due to my child pulling out the tape. Yes, the bonus tracks are on it because I did purchase the tape during the summer of 1994. I hope that we all can find the other songs as well. Good luck!

Free Music Review: One Of The Best Hip-Hop Soundtracks Ever! Hit: 5 StarsWhile I am not a big rap fan, even I was taken by this soundtrack. I like it better than I did the film! From SWV's remix of "Anything" to 2PAC's "Pour Out A Little Liquor", this CD was solid. Even Al B. Sure!'s remake of Al Greene's "Still In Love With You" was listenable. Get this classic as it was hip-hop at its best.
Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack by Death Row Hit: 4 StarsFirst of all, adressing the issue about "Pain" and "Loyal to the Game," it is a shame that they were left off here, but you have to take the cd for what it is. True they did make a mistake, this is a great album none the less. This cd is an equal distribution of both hip-hop and R&B. In the rap genre, Tha Dogg Pound give 2 solid tracks with "Big Pimpin'" and "Dogg Pound 4 Life." "Pour Out A Little Liquor," "Anything," "Didn't Mean 2 Turn U On," and "Crack'em" are among the best songs on here, but the 2 standout tracks are "Regulate" and "Afro Puffs." "Regulate" is a song by Warren G. and Nate Dogg which is a G-Funk masterpiece and the Dr. Dre produced "Afro Puffs" is as funky as it gets with a great beat. This is performed by the Lady of Rage, who I was always a fan of. This cd is a great one with top-notch production throughout the whole album. A great bomb by Death Row back when they were number one. Any Death Row fan will be satisfied, even if your'e not the biggest R&B fan in the world. There's not too much Snoop or Dre, but still a gem.
