Free Music Review: Adam Sandler has done it again
Hit: 4 Stars

I have all of Adam Sandler's albums, and Sandler is a riot in both his movies and on his albums. Sandler's first album, "They're All Gonna Laugh At You" was hillarious and by far Sandler's best album, and Sandler's second album, "What The Hell Happened To Me", wasn't as good as "They're All Gonna Laugh At You", but that album did deliver a lot of laughs also. Sandler's third album, "What's Your Name", finds Adam Sandler releasing an album fully comprised of songs, and no skits. As another reviewer already mentioned, it's just not Adam Sandler without skits. But that's OK. Sandler is very good at parodies, and the whole album is pretty funny, but my favorite songs would have to be "Moyda", "Bad Boyfriend", "Corduroy Blues", "Listenin' To The Radio", and "Voodoo". Two tracks on here, "The Respect Chant" and "The Goat Song" are sequels to two tracks on "What The Hell Happened To Me"( "Respect" and "The Goat") and while "The Respect Chant" doesn't go into anything about it's sucessor skit, "The Goat Song" does. There is also a Bruce Springsteen parody on here("The Lonesome Kicker") which is very funny, and "Listenin' To The Radio" is a song which contains references (not dirty references, jokes) to songs by artists such as Sting, John Mellencamp, Eric Clapton, and believe it or not, KISS( one line of this song includes "I Wanna Be The One To Hear Beth Calling Me"). There will be some people who won't buy or won't like "What's Your Name" because of the fact that it is fully comprised of songs and no skits, but if you like Adam Sandler, and you like parodies, you should give this album a listen.

Free Music Review: Not the Same Without Skits, but Still GREAT
Hit: 5 Stars

While, in my opinion, this is HIS worst cd, it still deserves a 5-star rating. The only reason I say this is his worst album is because there are no skits, only songs... The songs are all great... but it just isn't Adam Sandler without skits.

The best songs on this cd include:

"The Goat Song"
"The Lonesome Kicker"
"Moyda"

While, as I said, this is not his best cd, it still deserves a spot in your collection.

Free Music Review: out-dylans DYLAN
Hit: 5 Stars

let me start by saying that i live in vienna austria and i'd never heard of adam sandler the comedian when i bought this record. as a consequence, i didn't listen to it primarily expecting to be amused or in any comedy context. i realised that some of the songs were parodic -- LIKE parodies -- but not outright parodies -- THE LONESOME KICKER sounds like sandler walked inside the mind of bruce springsteen and infected it with some lunatic perspective, so that it's bruceian, all right, but entirely something else again, too. the comedy isn't the important aspect, the distortion of vision is. it doesn't matter if you find it outright laughable or risible or guffawable -- it has that dylanesque quality of giving you a strange world view. in fact my first reaction to this record was, this is HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED -- revisited again! THE BAD BOYFRIEND was like the WHO and any number of hysterical songstresses blended together in some demented pop song -- comedy if you like -- but i have since of course come across other sandler records and films which strike me as more blatantly intentional comedy of a kind -- also less amusing --whereas here, because the comedy element is perhaps held in check by the music, or superseded by it, the record becomes something else, something MORE than mere musical comedy. most musical parodies tend to be fairly vacuous affairs, and even THE RUTTLES are hard to listen to more than a couple of times. but this record really works as music, and just as dylan's classic was something like a short story collection in song, so here too you have different windows on the world, each affording a unique view and perspective. it may not be outdoing dylan but i would still rank this adam sandler record as one of the ten or twenty best POP records of the 1990s. i think people will re-appraise this cd in the fullnes of time -- maybe ten years down the road -- and acknowledge it as an overlooked classic. so get it now, be ahead of the times.

Free Music Review: Contender For Yankovic's Crown
Hit: 4 Stars

After watching Adam Sandler's parodies on SNL and his singing abiltiy on the Wedding Singer,I took a punt on WHAT'S YOUR NAME? and boy,am I glad I did!Sandler takes apart certain rock singers/bands with skill that would make a surgeon envious. He spears Bruce Springsteen(LONESOME KICKER,LISTEN' TO THE RADIO),Aerosmith(SWEET BEATRICE)and Guns'N'Roses(CORDUROY BLUES).Sacred cow music styles recieve a bashing as well:country(ZITTLY VAN ZITTLES),heavy metal(BAD BOYFRIEND),funk(DANCIN' AND PANTSIN',MOYDA),and reggae(VOODOO).THE GOAT SONG is an epic that almost defies analyses;let's just say that it sets back the animal rights movement back twenty years and makes me scream with laughter every time I hear it.THE RESPECT CHANT is just that . . . and damn proud of it!WHAT'S YOUR NAME? is the first fully song laden album by Adam Sandler and if he keeps on producing material like this,Weird Al should start looking over his shoulder. All together now . . ."I am a simple goat" . . .

Free Music Review: Hillarious- Adam Sandler is the funniest man alive!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've always been a huge fan of Adam Sandler, and this is the best one I have so far. My favorite songs are The Lonesome Kicker and The Goat Song.
