Free Music Notes for Kill the HeadlightsFree Music Review: Not bad, but not their best Hit: 3 StarsA little watered down in comparison to their earlier stuff, but a half decent rock album. Just a little too middle of the road from their previous albums.
Free Music Review: Maybe it's time to kill the engine altogether. Hit: 2 StarsDespite suffering from a series of ill-fated tours and a perennially revolving set of frontmen and record labels, alt-metal mainstays Adema have managed to consistently put out an album every two years since their inception in 2001. However, it remains to be seen whether this steadfast determination is a good thing. 'Kill The Headlights', the follow-up to 2005's excellent 'Planets', harks back to the group's early years with original singer Mark Chavez, completely forgoing the poetic lyricism and technical edge of their last album. New frontman Bobby Reeves is an adequate vocalist, and the majority of 'Headlights' is admissibly solid, but without singer Luke Caraccioli's delicate vocals or the elaborate and melodic instrumentation of 'Planets', there's nothing left to distinguish Adema from the Stainds, Chevelles, and Seethers of the world. Most of the album is forgettable, with no one song standing out from the rest, and guitarist Tim Fluckey's stale nu-metal riffs are about as out of date as a "Bush/Cheney '04" bumper sticker. Even Reeves' lyrics are little more than cliched narratives of drug abuse and misspent youth. But, all things considered, 'Headlights' isn't a horrible record - just a ponderously mediocre one. The biggest letdown here is that Adema followed up on a career-defining with their weakest offering yet.
Free Music Review: Much better than Planets (2005) but still feels eh... :-/ Hit: 3 StarsAdema returns from the dead... again with another new lease on life in the form of another new lead singer. Unfortunately, their new album doesn't seem to break the bonds that hold it down... A lack of true break out songs that hit it home as hit worthy. It's dissappointing considering their last effort sucked so horribly and I was looking for a major rebound. Now don't get me wrong, Headlights isn't horrible or even bad. It just feels overly generic and doesn't do anything to really demonstrate the band's strongest values: Vocals and Pop-Nu Metal-Hard Rock hybrid sound.
If I had to choose the stand out tracks, first place would have to be All These Years that plays to a catchy rhythm and falls on a solid chorus. Second place is given to the tune, Waiting for Daylight which stands as a mix between Adema's old sound, Adema's new sound AND even a hint of hard rock-metal act, Disturbed influence during the infectious bridge. Los Angeles and The Losers tie for third ending the album in a good finish.
Ultimately, it's a layered effort that doesn't break middle ground leading to an experience that isn't bad but works to an effectively strong debut for the newest version of Adema. I personally find the new singer to be the best thing going for Adema right now and while I do miss Mark Chavez, this guy more than makes up for his continued absense with a great voice and intelligent lyrical writing (one thing Chavez lacked.)
Free Music Review: Awesome Hit: 5 StarsI can't explain how uplifting this cd is. It truly has everything you want in a rock album . Adema is definetely a band to be reckoned with now that Bobby has joined the ranks.
Free Music Review: BACK TO THE GREATNESS Hit: 5 StarsBeing the freak of knowing the entire first 2 cds and some of the singles of Insomniac(spelling?) Dreams, I really believe they are back to where they were. I have to say that Planets was the worst CD I ever heard, they said "n*gger" and that ruined it for me. But "Shoot the arrow" is a good song but, back to this review.
A good song is "All These Years" to show the flexablity of their music. "Los Angeles" sounds almost like Mark did on Unstable, very impressive. "Days go by" reminds me of Puddle of Mudd...Really badly!
"Cold and Jaded" sounds like Adema's debut album like many people said...
Overall they are back to the basics and are rocking hard...I am into the new sound! Awesome!!! WORTH THE BUY!
