Free Music Notes for PlanetsFree Music Review: Umm.. Hit: 3 StarsIn my opinion it was a good idea to get rid of Marky Chavez, he was just a run of the mill vocalist with very sub par lyrics. The instrumentals were nothing too special either. This cd I actually enjoy only because Adema isnt trying to be the heaviest band, they are focusing on slower more rock / grunge oriented tunes. I think that direction fits Adema because the last thing we need is another crappy cookie cutter metal band. I think Adema will be finished after this album, but at least the band didnt die with chavez doing the singing.
Free Music Review: A new birth that does not disappoint Hit: 5 StarsIt's always a tricky thing when an established band loses one of the most integral parts of their sound, such as a vocalist.
With their new album, Planets, California rockers Adema offer a new album that encompasses a new singer and a completely different style. While it is arguable whether the decision to keep the monkier "Adema" as the bands title was a wise one, it is also relativley unimportant when one listens to the actual CD itself. New vocalist Luke Caraccioli emits a heartfelt and highly emotional style that shys away from the screams and rough outbursts that defined the band's previous work. This adds an important dynamic to the bands sound, separating them from the blurry barrage of similiar sounding artists. While showcasing more of a Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) melodicism than a Jonathon Davis (Korn) or David Draiman (Disturbed) bark, Caraccioli has managed to contribute heavily to a highly successful attempt by Adema to reinvent themselves. While the new sound falls more into a hard rock genre than a metal one, the band seems to feel less restricted creatively than ever before, with guitarist Tim Fluckey exercising his skills with impressive solos and delightfully decorative melodies. Is this the same band that brought us Unstable? The answer is no, and to many of you reading this, that is all you will want to hear. However, with an open mind to change and creativity and a mood for straight-up rock, Planets will both surprise and excite!
Free Music Review: New and Improved Hit: 4 StarsYeah, it's true that this is almost a completely new band. It seems like most of these reviewers would like the album more if the band just used a different name. I was aware of the numerous changes in Adema. I listen to XM and they like to keep me informed. I was aware that Adema changed labels, got a new singer and lost a guitar player. The changes did not prevent me from getting the new CD. When I listened to it, I was impressed.
I can't believe that anyone thinks Marky is a better singer or songwriter. Every hardcore song Adema has made like "Needles" and "Drowning" just plain suck. Adema's first album was decent but there were some really stupid songs on it. "Unstable" flopped for the most part. It was mellower than the first and most people didn't like it. Although it had more feeling, it just lacked the character of the self-titled album, yet people stuck with the band. The lyrics were never stellar.
Although the lyrics have only improved slightly, there is no doubt that the new singer has more talent. There is more emotion behind his voice. He doesn't need to resort to inaudible screams to convey emotion. He simply has more talent. The band has matured a lot and I think it's for the best.
"Planets" is a decent album. It's not the best I own but in my opinion it's more mature and developed than any of Adema's other works. Some tracks that stand out are "Shoot the Arrows" "Barricades in Time" "Planets" "Until Now" and "Rise Above"
If you actually take these reviews seriously, I'd ignore most of the people that gave ones. They are just upset over the changes in the band. If they got over it and actually listened to the music as if it were a new band, they would see things differently. There is no way this album deserves one star. At the very least it has more music than most CDs. At 16 tracks and close 1hour 12minutes, there is a lot of music to listen to. Give it a shot with open ears and you just might here the improvements.
Free Music Review: Adema's not Adema Anymore... Hit: 1 StarsI recently just purchased this cd about a week ago, and i didnt even sample the tracks or listen to it before i bought it. Im a big fan of ademas music, however i dont keep up really with the news on them and their events but it seems they changed lead singers...so i bought this cd without expecting anything different then the emoational anger that adema put out on its last 3 cds, instead after buying this cd i get a 3min intro long on every song and no originality. It Seems that the original lead singer "Marky Chavez" a strong frontman and brillant lyricalist and vocalist isnt in the band anymore...who knows why.... He was like the whole reason i loved adema was his raspy yet powerful and clear voice now they have this singer no offense to him but should be singing for the themes for the new Batman or rugrats movies. Hes a good enough singer but not for adema at all. not to run on with this, but this is a terrible cd, sorry dudes but its not worth the money or the time to sample the tracks.... Adema Aint Adema...
Free Music Review: Pleasantly surprised.... Hit: 4 StarsFirst off, I'd just like to say I am really disappointed with the attitude of some of the reviewers here. Personally I think you should try to keep an open mind and listen to the entire CD before you write a review, but that could just be me. At the very least give some constructive criticism rather than single sentence about your blind hatred for change.
With that out of the way, I can say that I was a bit surprised when I heard Adema's latest offering. I too had no idea that Mark Chavez was no longer with the band, so when I first listened to Planets I was a little surprised to say the least. Adema has never been my favorite band, but I still listen to their first two albums fairly regularly. While quite different from their previous efforts, I find that this change is for the better, as Luke Caraciolli has much more range and actual singing ability than Mark did. His major shortcoming, however, is that he lacks the intensity that Chavez brought to Adema, which is very evident in some of the harder tracks on the CD.
The only major complaint I have about Planets is that it seems to drag on about 10 minutes too long. The first half of the CD is incredible, and really showcases what they are capable of now. Overall the later tracks seem to lose a lot of the energy that made the earlier ones so good, drawing out and marring an otherwise fantastic CD. If you've never really been a fan of Adema before or simply don't want to give them a chance, I urge you to try their new album. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
